framed by two spoken word samples and wrapped in house and techno emotions, that know about electro and 90’s electronica too: the new, second album of the leipzig and berlin based producer and live artist martin enke aka lake people moves in a fresh way. this time he shifts towards a focus on the essentials of electronic club music: sounds and groove, rough and playful interweaved with the aesthetic particles of techno. with his “point ep”, released on the berlin based imprint krakatau records in late 2012, his creative life as a producer for melancholic driven club tunes took off. several top notch djs played the tune “point in time”, lake people started to tour world-wide with his mesmerizing live set and produced countless remixes for colleagues from all around the globe. in 2015 he finally released his first album “purposely uncertain field” on the munich based label permanent vacation and delivered eleven tracks at the interface of techno, ambient, experimental and electronic, that bewitch with hymnal chords, yearningly melodies, detailed production, elaborate sound design and an overall introspective, emotive feeling. now, just shortly after he published a fresh ep on the dresden based imprint uncanny valley, lake people drops “phase transition”, a new album consisting of ten haunting tracks full of dance suspense. he recorded all between 2016 and early 2017 on various vintage analog synthesizers, uad and other creative interfaces. to find out if his latest pure slamming tracks work deep, he tried them out during his live shows in order to catch some new ideas directly from the dance floor.

lake people, the man with a knack for aural subtleties, is spot-on with his first ep for uncanny valley. over the course of four tracks he showcases a quiet different approach compared to the sophisticated house music the leipzig based artist released on labels like permanent vacation or connaisseur recordings. on -break the pattern- he relies heavily on the good old boom tschak-paradigm of electro, without completely giving up his trademark sound. -level msk- combines staccato-type chords with a stuttering beat that stick in your mind. the acidic -september futuristic- with its stoic drumming has almost a krautrock feel to it. on the flipside, the playful -chords in chorus- feels like an early contender for this year s summer anthem with chords and acid lines from heaven. the ep closes with -pull off-, a perfect example for lake people s ability to compose tracks with an emotional depth.

martin enke aka lake people returns to permanent vacation with his first original material since his debut album “purposely uncertain field“. the three tracks on the “every place you go“ ep stay true to the unmistakable signature sound of lake people from the first beat to the last breath. it is also testament to how far martin has built and refined his own sound universe. cinematic soundscapes and hypnotic ambience meet razor sharp beats that will keep you on the right track. your soundtrack for a romantic road trip through post-apocalyptic wasteland and abandoned cities.

here comes the heavy remix package to lake peoples much praised debut album purposely uncertain field. with redshape, lawrence and map.ache three remixes were carefully chosen who would be able to bring their own distinctive sound to the table, but also treat the original tracks respectfully. redshape catapults -illuminated- into the orbit of the red planet, where it rotates in a trippy and hypnotic way. lawrence is drifting red but stays closer to the sun. the dial boss keeps things lighter and brings some bells and a steady bass drum to dinner and knows how to mesmerise. leipzig buddy and kann records co-founder map.ache shifts up a gear with his remix for cooping. twisted vocals and a bouncy bassline make his remix a darling on the club floor and rounds things consistently up.

on -purposely uncertain field- lake people doesn t fall into the trap of repeating himself or recreating a successful formula. instead he puts all his musical knowledge and his experience into the eleven tracks of the album and expands his already rich sound universe. above his straighter dancefloor aspects martin elaborates his approaches to a certain mid 90 s electronica vibe and ambient-like soundscapes with a very cinematic feel to it. thus he brilliantly manages the difficult task of creating a transcendent and consistent album without losing any tension over the full length.

martin enke bzw. lake people hat sich definitiv zeit für sein albumdebüt -purposely uncertain field- genommen, wenn man bedenkt, dass er schon früh erfolge gefeiert und ziemlich schnell einen sehr eigenen lake people sound entwickelt hat. aber es hat noch bis zur -point in time- ep, die 2012 auf krakatau erschienen ist, gedauert, bis seine musik bei einem breiteren publikum angekommen ist. dank dixon, ame und vielen weiteren djs, die die tracks in ihren sets und mixen gespielt haben, kann man die -point in time- ep als einen wendepunkt in der musikalischen karriere von lake people betrachten. ohne irgendeine hypeblase zu kreieren, hat martin mit jeder folgenden ep die immer weiter steigenden erwartungen erfüllt und seine fähigkeiten als produzent verfeinert. je beliebter sein sound wurde, desto begehrter wurde er auch als remixer, z.b. für acts wie lusine auf ghostly international oder für dixon & guy gerber auf dem von gerber neu gegründeten label rumors. so ist über die jahre eine sehr treue fanbase gewachsen

letztes jahr gelang lake people mit point in time (krakatau) ein echter underground-hit, der zwischen barcelona und berlin nicht nur in den sets der innervisions-crew rauf und runter gespielt wurde. nun schlaegt die leipziger musik-maschine wieder zu! nach seinen hochgelobten eps fuer krakatau und connaisseur präsentiert lake people einen brandneuen 4-tracker auf permanent vacation. diesmal erweitert martin enke, wie er von seinen eltern genannt wurde, sogar seine abenteuer in richtung 90s electronica, ambient und idm und erzeugt einen tiefen soundstrudel, dem nur schwer zu widerstehen ist.

what a year for lake people so far. apart from several excellent releases and remixes, like his outstanding interpretation for chymeras classic >caprica burning<, the leipzig-based act is busy playing gigs around the globe. earlier this year, he had his first south-america tour, north america is following this summer. his lowkey and touching live-performances obviously work excellently. we are now more than happy to present the next lake people ep. four tracks, no remixes and each of them a pearl on its own. >into< goes a bit in the direction of his hit >point in time< on krakatau, while >stepwise< and >come over later< reminds of the timeless electronic approach of acid jesus or soylent green releases on klang elektonik

celebrating its 10 years label anniversary permanent vacation releases a top-notch package of 16 brand-new tracks by their main artists including john talabot, tuff city kids, mano le tough, tensnake, red axes, pional and many more. plus special guest joakim, who contributed the track camino de la luna, paying homage to his classic remix for antena s camino del sol, the first big hit on the label 10 years ago.

after an excellent new album “yoyogi park”, our favorite german producers made great remix package. one of the most respectable label giegling artist kettenkraussell made two version. one is dark deep house and one more is electronica style which reminds us jan janelik. our hero roman flugel remix is more uplifting and trippy, this is simply nice for the club. lake people remix is old school electro style but sounds very modern and playful. enjoy!
