deep space orchestras use of weapons label has always been a reliable source of analogue-heavy left of centre deep house, with each split ep, featuring tracks from a variety of like-minded producers, featuring a range of must-have nuggets. this expansive sixth release, with eight tracks spread across two slabs of wax, is no different. dso s beautiful and surprisingly fragile -mendoza- leads the way, with 7 citizens calming, alien house groover -fatum- close behind. arguably best of all, though, is other worlds -coldname eld-, a sparse and bassy concoction blessed with some brilliant, head high style pianos. it is, though, all good, with further impressive contributions from the detroit-included haku.

scenery records present their second release this week, and it doesnt disappoint. it is a four tracker, with the a side being held down by deep space orchestra and b side duties being taken care of by bantam lions who featured on scn001 with a remix by the ever popular cottam. pressed on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl.

theres no need to do a big introduction of deep space orchestra. si murray and chris barker have releases on a number of heavyweight labels (e.g. delusions of grandeur or use of weapons) and regular guest appearances at club nights and radio shows throughout the uk and rest of the world. their second ep for quintessentials is some raw and analogue business topped with the dso funk! wolf music hot shot krl adds some piano and old school power on his remix and we must admit were delighted!

prodigal sons the deep space orchestra return to foto with the mighty blindsided track. ver on the flip the two remixes from medlar (wolf music) and another foto regular andy ash are equally as good. medlar opts for shuffling drums and a dose of the funk whilst andy turns in a classy bumping electronic workout.

deep space orchestra having been forging a nice niche in a modern take on house music, blending, disco, detroit and chicago influences , and here at tracky bottoms, we cottoned on to one of there deepest tracks to date mass illusion about a year ago now ! its taken a while to come to fruition , but the stolen future ep is here . mass illusion it self is probably the track gaining most interest , probably because it has achieved the difficult task of being very deep but also quite anthemic , also featuring on the ep - stolen future harks back to early carl craig vibes , with a ruff ass beat driving the synthy techno , theres a remix of this from label boss toby tobias who takes it in a more loopy chicago vibe and last track witch doctor has ethnic hypnotic quality about it , but with some added dynamics by toby who edits it for maximum dancefloor reaction

nice price deal !!! the third release on boogie originals is another genre-crossing musical excursion from deep space orchestra and james johnston... with a remix from voyeur rhythms ben sun. title track chrome hands clockwork space android sound rolls out perfectly along the deeper plane of the label, whilst ben suns remix lifts us up with added layers of percussion and super emotive synth work. on the flip james johnston treats us to two entirely different slabs of the sounds that inspire him. faces and traces works the slower groove for the earlier dance-floor, and sunshine stars bringing out the purely epic. all the tracks are made for the dance-floor, mastered separately for vinyl and digital release, and will be in all the usual music outlets soon.

the moreaboutmusic label launch the secret weapon series for long lost gems and future classics, inspired by the sounds of early chicago house, sheffield bleep and detroit techno. secret weapon #1 comes from deep space orchestra with the future deep house classic >hold me back<, remixes come from disco don cosmic boogie and acid house scientists paranoid london. deep space orchestra deliver the goods with >hold me back<, a stripped down, nu-groove, mr fingers inspired, deep house jam. a simple kick and cymbal pattern builds slowly into a layered percussive house groove, with a pulsating juno bass line. organ stabs tease in and out of the track that build up to a hypnotic hook. the layered rhythms build, whilst a vocal stab teases in and out of the track, layering sounds and sonics, before dropping back onto an irresistible jacking house groove. the remixes are adding some fine flavors to this excellent debut release of mam records.

deep space orchestra have been carving out a very nice name for themselves over the past year, and alongside the likes of cottam and krl it&#700,,,s safe to say that they are helping to establish an exciting new movement of raw, detroit-inspired house. the diy approach is very much a part of their ethic, as is the underground feel and aesthetic which imbues their own use of weapons label as well as their recent releases on similarly minded vinyl-orientated labels such as foto and kirk degiorgio&#700,,,s legendary art. the release we have here is perhaps their most refined music yet, showing a development in their production level on two tracks which are brimming with a warmth and fatness whilst retaining that critical raw edge which only a handful of the most exacting producers seem capable of. lo pan builds around a fat, bouncing bass line and a brilliantly lilting groove created by straight 808 hats and shuffling shakers. the feel keeps shifting throughout the song, sometimes superswung, sometimes straight and driving, all the while simple detroit strings build and analogue arps are layered up building the tension in the arrangemen

the >inside out< ep is a solid package featuring quality tunes from start to finish. midnight runner is a heavy plunge into deepest underwater techno, which drives fearlessly forward through a storm of ride cymbals. on the inside hovers and builds on a single chord, until breaking deliciously into a slinky deep house groove with a plonky bassline leading the way. on the b-side, the revenge pass by to deliver the >memory warehouse< remix of >on the inside< - a simple and decisive slice of deep dark rave, with all the hot production values we love to hear from the revenge. moonrunners, finally, is an organic and musical collection of neatly packed rhodes keys, piano splashes, trumpets and intense bass notes, and wraps up the package in style. another great ep for dso - and a solid return for winding road records

following on from their last two sell out eps, foto recordings (run by ali ooft!) enlist the talents of deep space orchestra for release number three in the catologue. first up >riding in my imaginary jeep< showcases their trademark old synths/modern production aesthetic to full effect, taking in classic drum machines and warm synth lines to produce an epic piece of deep house. second track >sir shina< sees them doing some deft sample-manipution with a big chugging midtempo jam the result. ooft! meanwhile give >riding< the once-over, beefing up the low end whilst retaining most of the musical parts.

on this record are four finely-crafted weapons that boom like a howitzer and beguile like a drunken pirate’s cutlass. forged using an ages-old blend of modern computer technology and 1980s synthesisers, all are designed to cause maximum offence on the dancefloor.

the third and final segment of the knowes universal broadcast has been received. the series of transmissions is completed by brainwaltzera, william the squid, deep space orchesta and kovyazin d spanning breaks, acid and techno.
