nice price deal !!! hotflush presents the full label debut of uk funky figurehead roska, following his appearance on the recent back and 4th compilation and seminal remix of untolds >just for you< in 2009. this release brings together two cuts that emphasize a healthy evolution of the roska style that has made such an impact on bass music in the last couple of years. retaining the customary hard-hitting percussion and raw syncopated rhythms, a slightly futuristic twinge moves us into more unfamiliar territory, with the energetic synth arpeggiation of >error code< backed by the spacier, dubbed-out >abrupt<.

roskas shocking ep is the latest release from the long-running rinse producer and his firstfor the label since last years rinse presents: roska2 lp. it finds the uk innovator on his usual fiery form, drawing for his characteristic deftly swung percussion and grime-infused sub-bass pressure. the explosive title track is the most overtly grimey roskas sounded for some time, slow-building intro giving way to a pulsating bassline and caustic laser blasts.

shoulda rolla is the product of an almighty collaboration between tectonic head honcho pinch and rinse fms very own tribal roller, roska. returning to the studio together as a follow up session to 2010s paranormal activity (as featured on tec048) the pair have come up with something that sounds both familiar and fresh in equal measures - revitalising many ghosts of grime and dubstep past with brain bending atmospherics, precision drum programming and a full enaging tribal momentum. flip then for the deadly asbestos which continues in the vibe of roskas recent tectonic output, blurry, spearhead & 480 bc. taking on his 140bpm stance, roska flips the dubstep / half-step script on its head - instead opting for rapid, meticulous drum programming and charging pace. packed with enough sub bass weight to shake a sound system to pieces and a demented mid range sound that emulates a enraged robotic elephant, asbestos is one for the deeper heads who like to move their feet.

>blurry< runs at 133bpm allowing it to sit neatly between dubstep tempo and the increasingly popular 125-130 bpm bass / house scene that has been developing in the uk over the last couple of years. taking things down an ongy-bongy path, this rhythm provides the soundtrack to a hunter chasing his prey through a humid jungle landscape, with fast weaving beats charged heavy by the deadly subs. the heat is on.
>spearhead< sees roska making a rare 140bpm trip, taking this rhythmical excursion neatly into dubstep tempo territory, creating an original cut which sits in its own world of tribal grime. the bassline pounds heavy, eventually rising upward before suddenly plummeting back down to the murky depths from where it came, and back round again. dis-hyeer quality dubstep music produced pon the other side of the looking glass.
