nach drei eps auf dem belgischen kultlabel r&s anfang der 2010er jahre und diversen releases mit seinem partner blawan als karenn, veröffentlicht der britische produzent pariah nun ein atemberaubendes debütalbum auf houndstooth, auf dem er eigensinnige strukturen, üppige harmonien und fesselnde melodien in eine aufregende mixtur aus abstrakten landschaften und ausgesprochen strukturierten songs und soundcollagen verwandelt, so dass das mixmag uk nicht umhin kommt, die wurzeln seiner inspiration mit eno, vangelis und aphex twin zu benennen.

pariah returns to r&s for his third single >rift ep< featuring three new tracks, rift / signal loss / among those metal trees, a collection of three weighty tracks that show just how much his sound has evolved. >rift< is an atmospheric display of sub-bass manipulation. the sighs and crackle make for a dark, industrial vibe yet the track is carried by syncopation to fit into a club setting, easily slotting in amongst the equally perplexing and percussive releases on hessle audio from objekt and joe. >signal loss< is, simply put, incredible. hyperbolic? maybe, but it is always exciting to hear those kinds of tunes still emerging especially from a genre so full of vocal sampling. pariah has already made clear his burial influences, but the arrangements on this track are something else. the whirrs and prodding drums open up some lush texture work here akin to that on >c-beams< from his safehouses ep. >among those metal trees< is on a decidedly more ambient tip and wouldnt seem out of place on tri-angle records, the mangled and stretch vocal sample is like something holy other would exploit. from what has been released, this is pariahs first attempt at a track this ambient and he has done well, the track takes you down to its depths, and does not let up for its full duration.

back on friday 17th september (2010)...second single for the hotly tipped london based producer pariah on the legendary r&s record label. parishs debut single detroit falls/ orpheus gained the young producer many high profile fans including rob da bank, mary ann hobbs, ramadanman, untold, len faki, appleblim, chris duckenfield and will saul amongst many others. the first ep also found its way onto high profile, and influential blogs and websites including pitchfork, fact, gorilla vs bear, no pain in pop and rcrd lbl, and was a recommended release at boomkat. the debut single contained the first two pariah tracks ever recorded and were instantly recognisable as referencing the hip hop beat collages of dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of burial. this doublepack sees pariah move further towards developing his own sound, and takes in slamming percussive club tracks, deeper 2 step excursions and downtempo and beatless highlights. early supporters of this release include mary ann hobbs, falty dl, ramadanman, ben ufo, untold and mosca.

the two tracks on this single wear the influences on their sleeve, referencing the hip hop beat collages of dilla and the moody atmospheric 2 step rhythms of burial, but still contain the rich pariah dna which will be even more apparent on his future r&s singles. the stuff we have heard so far has blown our socks off taking influences from sources as diverse as levon vincent, fennesz and classic detroit techno as well as the likes of mj cole and steve gurley. already a name on the lips of the hip blog crowd (featured on pitchfork, gorilla vs bear, no pain in pop and rcrd lbl) and in demand on the european underground dj circuit this debut 10 inch is likely to become a collectors item and catapult him onto much bigger things.

omni music returns with a brand new vinyl release, featuring 4 more choice cuts of deep music. the ep starts out with bad twin, whose members will be well known to any omni fans and any oldskool heads. they launch the ep with a classic summer-sounding breakbeat trip down memory lane with beautiful rhodes, delicious harmonics and crisp breakbeats. continuing the ep we feature the amazing talents of the drumkilla with an new edit of his omni classic event horizon a string-laden epic amen voyage to the stars. side b starts with the atmospheric kings pariah teaming up with label owner eschaton to produce a stripped down and hypnotic head-nodder swimming with celestial pads and space-age bliss. finishing the ep we have the always magnificent rainforest who also teams up with eschaton to continue the journey into deep space with an at times frenetic, but always intelligent, collage of amen rhythms, pounding basslines and otherworldly atmospherics.
