the introductions are over, june miller are back and there is no apology. they have reappeared having been stooped in solitary confinement, presenting a handful of cuts, only to prove that this was brutally productive and they have been working hard to follow up their last release. bare-knuckled and still swinging, this ep sees june miller entering round three and raising the bar yet another level. the precursor to their forthcoming album, from *the promise ring* to the resounding brass of *saus*, it certainly sets a precedent.

following on from his rugged track >difference<, co-produced with dj madd, tmsv teams up with fellow utrecht residents june miller for the second part of his collab ep on black box, exploring far darker territory than on his past releases for box clever. >ghost ship< is a masterclass in restraint, with mutating laser-bass hemmed in by trembling strings and subliminal pads as the rigid riddim track moves ever forwards.
>lost cause< creeps further still into the shadows, with dub techniques applied to modern soundsets, layering icy textures over crisp halfstep beats and rock solid subbass.
each record in the xxx series comes with black labels in a black paper sleeve - cut as a 10 inch on 12 inch vinyl, all artist & track info is etched into the record itself at the time of mastering.

with dsm having taken a turn down slightly darker paths with some of its more recent releases. dutch uber-duo june miller serve up two nasty half stepping tracks to continue this trend. razor-sharp, scattering drums and growling bass pound their way unrelentingly throughout the a side >strike anywhere< with the wailing synth line that sits a top these two elements adding a distinctly nervous, tension building atmosphere. with this outfit having made their name in the deeper, dare we say it, more minimal side of the genre, this track shows their adeptness at creating devastating dance floor tunes too. rising start circa joins the fray from the b-side >glass jaw<. the subtle, tiptoeing of the intro makes way and distorted, warping bassline after the dramatic pause before the drop-people wont know what hit em! more crisp, 2-step beats drive the track forward while diminutive rolls on the hats and cinematic strings and chords adding points of interest throughout. this is a no holds barred straight up screw face slice of wax. you have been warned.

two of the most talked about producers of recent times, june miller & anile, join forces to devastating effect for dsm016, and together they have crafted the darkest release to grace deep soul music so far. this is the first of many tunes from these two as they have developed a close working relationship with their complimentary sounds and styles and they will be gracing dsm with plenty more of their music in the future.
