since jim coles took on the mantle of om unit, the english producer has sought to challenge himself and his audience by going beyond the confines of genres and styles he has so far explored. in the process he has found success by striving for more feeling, for a more human and daring electronic music. this journey continues with ‘self’, coles’ third album as om unit and a true follow-up to his 2013 debut ‘threads’.
‘self’ captures coles in a period of growth, change, and experimentation. inspired by personal psychological and emotional healing work, and a vision of the self as an egg — which coles later on discovered is a jungian archetype — the album blends dubwise, bass-heavy music with the space of experimental ambient compositions and the daring imagination of a cold wave science fiction soundtrack.

over the years jim coles has turned his hand to a fair few different styles and made them his own. these days, most know his om unit alias as a significant force in fresh developments within d&b (recently found larking about with alix perez, binga and more in the richie brains project on exit records), but it s not always been that way.

for its first vinyl album cosmic bridge celebrates the diversity and strength of its international roster with a selection of 12 tracks from the celebrated cosmology digital compilation series, which earned a dj mag compilation of the year shortlist in 2014.

torchlight is a series of releases from om unit dedicated to exploring ideas that are truly perpendicular to the standard templates of dubstep, jungle, and drum & bass.

lost stories is a collection of 18 beats from the archives of english producer jim coles, best known today as om unit, and released by justin “kutmah” mcnulty’s izwid label. the album is both a portrait of the artist as a young man, and the completion of a circle, ten years in the making, that stretches from london to los angeles.

om unit says of this release “for me it’s another milestone as a dnb fan.. being allowed to come back to 31 again with another “shadow boxing” version, being one of only a tiny handful of people being allowed to remix this classic truly is an honour, let alone twice! also working with thing on “something ancient” was a real blessing not only because he s original and convincing with his own work but also i think he’s like me, he does his own thing without adhering to too many of the insular rules that have made dnb such a closed room over the years, and so creating this cinematic piece just happened naturally and i really love the results.”

known for their own take on drum & bass music - and in particular their unique approach to blending influences from a variety of worlds - their first collaborative ep “small victories” was picked up for exit records by dbridge back in 2012, and since then, their influence on a new generation of up-tempo music has been far reaching and undeniable.

the extended project *inversion* follows his three track release *sleepwalkers* in 2013 and *timelines* in 2014. om unit was schooled via metalheadz. although he earned his stripes via hip hop as dj 2tall it was breakbeat-hardcore and jungle that shaped his attitude towards electronic music and the ferocious trail blazing of the metalheadz crew was an undoubted inspiration. thus it makes perfect sense that his take on this sound, his contribution to moving this sound forward comes via metalheadz. the sonic nature of the project is rooted in london, chicago and detroit- drums, subs and textures.

silent dust is the project of uk duo dan blishen (originally from manchester) and andy hobbs (hailing from kent), who produced drum & bass together for years under the respective monikers zyon base and hobzee. their self-titled debut, *silent dust*, brings their signature d&b sound into a different light, drawing from a wide range of influences - ambient, drum & bass, garage, dub, breakbeat and soundtracks.
this special package bundles the full album cd with a 12 inch ep featuring massive remixes from marcus intalex and om unit.

the collaboration came about when om unit heard new kromestar material being played on rinse fm by dj jay 5ive, dubs were exchanged with mutual support. what started out as a casual exchange has culminated into something far more profound. eager ears could do worse than to watch cosmic bridge closely this year.

following his prized joker rework, his inclusion on the hefty fabric-curated >elevator music< comp, his dope 7 inch for the all city crew, and corridor ep on plasticians terrorhythm imprint - not to mention a slew of remixes - om unit joins the civil music stable alongside starkey, reso, debruit, drums of death and darling farah. and yet again we see him pushing his sonic manifesto ever further. with years of working intently at the nexus of instrumental beats and electronic music, its time for the timps ep. the timps is real electro. faceless, percussive, underground with a sci-fi feel. dark, futuristic and dancefloor-oriented, punctuated with elements of 80s detroit techno.

om unit finally releases >the corridor< ep on 12 inch vinyl via terrorhythm recordings. >the corridor< was om units first statement of intent as an artist. emerging from the ashes of his previous musical incarnation, >the corridor< perfectly reflects oms musical mindset and philosophy, taking influences from hip hop, electronic and dub and blending them together to spectacular effect. do not sleep on this amazing record.
