wonderwheel is happy to welcome in montreal based producer & don dada poirier for his first release on the label, the be alright ep. moving away from the traditional dancehall, dub and soca sounds he s become known for, poirier delivers a 4 track of afro-house influenced dancefloor firestarters. sowia heads to south east africa with it s floating guitar hooks, big bassline, and vocals in portugese from canadian-moçambican singer samito. ginobili goes into deeper territory with four to the floor drums, heavily chopped percussion, and a hypnotizing distorted mbira line, while camera continues the tropical vibe with a nod to semba with its driving guitar lines, staccato synth lines and thumping drums. antilles trax rounds it out as the extended instrumental version of sowia

taken from the acclaimed -migration- album, -kypoli- sees poirier sharing production duties with fellow ninja tune alumni and hot property machinedrum. taking vocal samples from aleisha lee (co-writer of tinie tempah s recent smash -girls like- amongst others) and twisting, chopping and manipulating them into a completely new composition, the pair create a brooding post-dancehall/soul fusion, gaining the perfect balance between ethereal beauty and heavy dancefloor menace. bukem-esque pads and deep dub elegance give way to pounding kicks and floating harmonies, relentlessly building a wall of sonic beauty. remixes come from france s dub mad scientist moresounds, who ups the jungle influence with a classic reese-style bassline and signature rolling snare chops, whilst retaining the balance between dark & light and montreal-based newcomer thomas white who flips the vibe completely for a slo-mo soulection style builder.

soca sound system is the first in a year-long arc of releases from ghislain poirier on ninja tune. each will feature original productions focusing on the various street music aesthetics our man rocks so damn well. the second installment, run the riddim slated for june / july 09 will focus on future dancehall production and feature reggae legend burro banton amongst others. the third release low ceiling slated for oct 09 will focus on thunderous dancefloor beats with massive, thick bass showcasing ghislains straight up instrumental side. all releases will lead into a 2-disc album entitled running high to cap off the year which will be chock full of killer new material, versions and remixes. get ready for this!
