after the resoundingly well-received debut release from roots & future, dj madd has been hard at work building more tough soundsystem beats for his fledgling imprint. a surefire bet to keep steppas moving throughout the summer festival season, 002 presents a couple of contrasting takes on the reggae dubstep sound with a vocal collaboration, *homeland*, on the a side and the heavily dubbed-out dread vibrations of *follow dub* on the flip. marina p’s soulful verses dance over madds tightly-coiled basslines on homeland, delivering plenty of groove, dashes of colourful melody and skanking rhythms. the smoky, fx-heavy textures of follow dub take the vibe deeper, with pneumatic sub-bass pressure and percussive syncopations cutting through the haze, eyes-down dubwise flavours reminiscent of the early dmz classic era.
