actress veröffentlicht gemeinsames album mit dem london contemporary orchestra auf ninja tune!
das projekt wurde erstmals im februar 2016 im barbican aufgeführt und von boiler room und dem lco selbst kuratiert. die musik schafft synergien zwischen elektronischen und akustischen live-komponenten, nicht nur bei harmonien, sondern auch, wie traditionelle instrumente zu hybriden instrumenten verbunden wurden. als teil der entwicklung reicherten actress und das lco ein typisches klavier an und schufen damit sounds unter mithilfe von verschiedenen objekten, wie bspw. schüsseln oder plastiktüten. die ausverkaufte show selbst war ein großer erfolg und womöglich der startpunkt, der schlussendlich zu dieser mit spannung erwarteten veröffentlichung führte. für das album nahm das lco die einzelnen instrumentalparts im spitfire studio in l.a. auf, schickte sie dann rüber zu actress, der diese spuren nach seinen vorstellungen verfremdete, wodurch wirklich einzigartige neue stücke entstanden. außerdem haben lco, neben anderen tracks aus seinem werk, actress’ „hubble“ (aus seinem 2010er-album „splazsh“) und „n.e.w.“ (aus „r.i.p.“, 2012) neu interpretiert.die entstehung des projekts war sehr stark durch das mekka des brutalismus inspiriert, dem barbican centre in london, wo das projekt uraufgeführt wurde. iannis xenakis, ein griechischer komponist und architekt, der gebäude seinen kompositionen entsprechend schuf und vice versa, war eine starke inspirationsquelle. actress und lco haben, xenakis nicht ganz unähnlich, die grundrisse des barbican verwendet, um klänge zu produzieren, die direkt von den formen des gebäudes beeinflusst waren.

der ausnahmeproduzent actress veröffentlicht eine gemeinsame 12 inch mit dem londoner contemporary orchestra auf ninja tune! produzent darren cunningham, besser bekannt als actress, hat vom london contemporary orchestra gesellschaft im studio bekommen. nun veröffentlichen sie das resultat dieser zusammenarbeit sowie erweiterte arrangements ihres dunklen und brodelnden elektronika-schaffens. erstmals im vergangenen jahr im barbican centre zu london sowie am strelka institut in moskau in zusammenarbeit mit boiler room aufgeführt, heißt die gemeinsame ep einfach -audio track 5-, die als einführung für ein album und performancekunst-stück verstanden werden möchte, das diesen herbst via ninja tune und boiler room tv erscheinen soll. die zusammenarbeit, beauftragt und kuratiert von boiler room und vom london contemporary orchestra mit unterstützung des arts council england, bringt dank des london contemporary orchestras eine neue dimension in die klangauswahl von actress. mit dem produzenten in seinem element, der das lco kurzerhand als neues instrument verwendet und ihre akustischen instrumente präzise manipuliert, um sie mit seinen elektronischen loops in einklang zu bringen, schaffen beide strömungen eine erhöhte variation der kammermusik.

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

after the inclusion of crushed by actress on the most recent prime numbers ep, we return with three tracks from one of our favourite contemporary producers. ghosts have a heaven is a heavily stripped down, minimally constructed piece built on a heavyweight kick drum whilst given movement and accentuated by filtered synth washes and sub bass which change subtly throughout the track. side 2 is taken by two tracks from the actress debut full length release on his own werk discs. hazyville is a twisted piece of electro funk expertly compressed and crackling with static energy. superb locking & popping lace the track sounding something like the avant gardism of subway theme from the wild style o.s.t pushed confidently into 2009. ext up redit 124 provides a deep clipped jackin groove with a glitchy feel. the beats are worked & moulded along with fizzing synths and jerky keys to produce a quality hybrid of sounds with its own idiosyncratic style firmly in place.

the two hamburg based acts me succeeds and arp aubert are responsible for the first part of a ki records split series. on the ep named after the city in the north of germany the two acts combine their friendship and musical preferences to remix each other and contribute one very own track on each side. me succeeds, with their members mona steinwidder, sebastian kokus and lorin strohm, is a part of hamburgs labelcollective i saw music and their songs combine indie pop with electronic beats and chords. arp aubert consists of the two founding members of mirau records: stephan lorenz and marco niemerski. niemerski is better known for his productions as tensnake, but keeps arp aubert running as a matter of heart. the ki-split 1/3 (hamburg) is truly a family matter. because of their close friendship, me succeeds and arp aubert have created a very intense and emotional record. by remixing each other and combining their musical background this release turns out to be a very special one for ki and the acts themselves. the cover was created by me succeeds in well known ki tradition to make this piece of music something special and memorable.
