eagles & butterflies readies the third instalment in his art imitating life label series. boldly detuned and expertly defined, the last dance showcases trademark e&b chords and arpeggio sequences, backed with elegant vintage pads, tumbling, drum machines and percussion. the flip sees two reinterpretations of the title track, where a nineties broken-beat is accompanied by a beatless, synthapella edit.

“eagles & butterflies has taken storm in electronic wonderland - boiler room arpeggiator was originally titled 14 minutes of arps and its exactly that. its one of the simplest tracks iv ever made with probably only 8 layers that your weaves in and out the whole way through, really love the subtleness of this track where at the same time it is also a beast! oyeme is maybe the e&b sound people are familiar with, big marimba melodies, fat sub and rolling hats with a big break, love this one prophet was originally just an experiment when i purchased a prophet 6, its a little crazy and pretty full on, love the funky bass in the one from the sh 101. all the parts for this where recorded in a few takes live and two whole track was made in 2 hours!

producing under the name eagles for hands, brighton based musician laurie james ross unconventionally hailed from an upbringing in baroque and classical music. his background in multi-instrumentation later evolved into a love of math rock and electronica, and ultimately into various sub-genres of house, dubstep, glitch and garage. eagles for hands self titled e.p will be his first release on get some records.

in ear park was recorded in brooklyn, ny by chris taylor and is a colourful and expansive album featuring an intimate and personal collection of songs. much of the material that singer, guitarist and songwriter daniel rossen brought to in ear park draws on memories from his childhood, especially those relating to his father, who passed away in 2007 and to whom the album is dedicated (the title track is a nickname for a park in los angeles that the two used to visit). many of fred nicolaus contributions relate to similar themes of nostalgia and mortality, giving the album at times an elegiac feel. in ear park is full of joyful moments, lush production and concise songwriting.

despite the renewed interest in music from kenyas past, finding these tracks and their rights holders hasnt become any easier. only a handful of music archives around the world harbour collections of kenyan music, and just a few private collectors in kenya and abroad have been sharing catalogue info online or privately. one of the problems with east african music of this era is that much of it was originally released only on 45 rpm, seven-inch vinyl singles, many of which were only ever produced in tiny runs of a few hundred. 45s with their thin, paper sleeves do not age as well as lps and are often far more susceptible to the elements

we got together so many wonderful tracks, we had to put out the next secret weapons on double 12inch again. various artists plus various styles we love...get your own idea.

the main idea for the luxxury edit series was to take overplayed and/or uncool songs and turn them into tracks that i myself would want to dj. initially the plan was to do this exclusively using the sounds from the original multi tracks, rather than the typical throw a new beat and some swooshes on it kind of re-edit.

pional alias miguel barros ist wohl spanien am besten gehütetes geheimnis in sachen elektronischer musik. der junge multiinstrumentalist, der auch sein eigener sänger ist, eroberte die welt aus dem stand weg mit seiner debüt-maxi. die erschien auf dem in barcelona ansässigen, von seinem freund john talabot betriebenen label hivern discs. die drei tracks der >last house on the left ep< erforschen eine house-musik, die von krautrock, moodymann, miguel aguayo, caribou oder grizzly bear beeinflusst ist. mehr als nur empfehlenswert!

back again with another very full plate. this one is a bit of a first, the nuff wish crew mash up rock and reggae and produce one of their best 12inches to date. the a side uses messenger douglas carry backing track, a beautiful slice of chunky roots and atmosphere, with the eagles hotel california spookily welded on top. the b side brings back cuttys limb by limb crafted into walk this way for those who might have doubts of a good reason to bring back cutty again, just listen...
