jansport js low begins with the rude assertion that we oughta wake up and be released from our dream state before we absorb what we are about to hear. what follows is 20 concepts identifying the many different states of human existence. the track titles function as a compass. if we began sleep, we are high in the clouds by album-midpoint, before allowing a wake to bring us back to the sobering reality of modern times. love, nostalgia, consciousness and artist integrity, these are some of the themes masterfully weaved in and out of lows soundscapes. jansport stitches together carefully selected samples, nuanced drum loops, and pungent soundbites. by the time you realize you are being serenaded by the revelations of one of americas greatest literary giants, the albums true concept becomes clear: nobody knows whats real and whats not real. but you wake up everyday to try and figure it out anyway.
emotional rescue returns with the third (and final?) king sporty & the ex tras releases with the first ever-official reissue of the highly sought after cult boogie jam do you wanna dance? coming as remastered vocal and instrumental, plus again featuring a special discomix, this time courtesy of acid-disco slayer felix dickinson. appearing shortly after the success of the band s only album, extra funky, do you wanna dance? pointed the way forward, moving further from disco and closer to the rising electro-boogie sounds that were sweeping the dance floors. the confident up / jump electro drum programming, slap bass and trademark sporty guitar chops are propelled by a monster swamp inducing synth arpeggio that sings the funk electric, while hip-hop-shout-outs ride the rhythm. if the vocals are too much for some, then the original instrumental (dub) is also included for those just wanting that infectious groove. as many will recall, do you wanna dance? featured on felix s -originals- compilation for claremont 56 back in 2011, so when the king sporty reissue project was coming together there was only one name to be asked for the discomix. with a long history of djing and music production, as well the man behind the recycled records, fools gold, urban myth and bastedos labels, as well many, many releases on the long running and aptly titled cynic recordings, his remix arrives on point. teasingly drawn out, his mix switches back / forth between versions, the interplay between vocals, guitar, bass and electro-glide synths hypnotically building, with dickinson s deftly dubbing tripping it out, making the title s question irrelevant, as mind and feet involuntarily move.
after last years reissues of the miami based label, dancefloor, emotional rescue returns to the citys music with a look at the affiliated konduko records, with a collection of reissues from the acclaimed king sporty.

helena hauff s label continues to subvert all expectations by celebrating the truly underground and ignoring all expectations to provide obvious club material in line with her dj sets. instead we get treated to blood sport, a daring post punk band with a whiff of the pop group in their frenzied, messy style and plenty of sonic trickery occurring in between the intricate playing. -harsh realm- has the textural finish of earliest cabaret voltaire, but with a little more deft playing from the intensely talented players. -boiled in dust- meanwhile has a distinctly afrobeat-meets-industrial spirit that makes for striking, original material that should appeal to lovers of the truly alternative side of british music culture.
whacked out from the whisky soaked bristles of firecracker hq, the danish dondada dj sports (he of regelbau and help recordings fame) offers up a maiden lp of vast and varied sonic states. get set for solid rave aesthetics aplenty - the double packs journey trudges over a musical milieu of broke-beaten, ambient driven house and techno, melancholy junglist and dubwise downtempo. one foot in the past, one foot in the future and killing the present - a perfect and timely addition to the firecracker canon.
r&s records present the three remixes from sporting lifes slam dunk series pressed to one slab of wax.
,,these remixes all came from sporting lifes friends and contemporaries. actress turns in a stunning, typically deconstructed remix of court vision (feat evy jane) alternating between using the full vocal, the mood is one of melancholic hauntology. galcher lustwork comes correct with a tripped out, euphoric house reworking of hydrate peeling back the complexity of the original for a straight jack that oozes class. finally arch beat provocateur dean blunt provides a suitably oddball take with his babyfather honeytrap mix (for shakilus) final vip if youve heard the amazing babyfather album or mixtape you know what to expect here

what’s on help008? mainly music from the arhus-boy dj sports. it’s sort of a debut, but sports has released a bunch of tracks on regelbau and help over the past years, solo + with his groups maizena, sportscentral and lester. this young sensible producer initiates the release with the breaky hidden spheres that has a cool piano. next another leftwing original from sports. this one, with it’s flute, breakbeat, confident synth chords and beautiful minor nature is a favourite of mr. sports parents. this one is our favorite, his parents. if we haven’t lost you so far, the flipside contains a timeman dance version with more danceability, hook and playing time than the original version of the bridge that was released on the tape sportscentral. last but not least you get an alternative version of that get-in-touch-with-your-inner-passion/synthesizer-melody-rythmical-ambient-track mindless turns, that also originally appeared on the aforementioned tape. we hope you ll like our new record, that, if on repeat, might provide you hours and hours of by-yourself enjoyment.
get on down is a heavyweight slice of storming jamaican disco-reggae heat from the legendary studios of miami s tk disco empire. king sporty s version may not have been as well known as connie cases electro laden later 1982 version (also produced by sporty) but the perfect marriage of disco stylings and sports jamaican roots meant the original 1979 version was a cult classic in underground deep disco circles. over 35 years since get on down was released the keepers of the tk disco vaults have given permission for some of their classics and lesser known gems to be respectfully tweaked by contemporary producers and dj s who fully understand the lineage of the label and the music contained within. stepping up and get his hands dirty is none other than london dwelling, wolf music man medlar. a regular face behind the turntables all over the world medlar has lovingly freaked king sportys anthem for the modern dance-floor, extending the right parts in just the oh so right way, dubbing out parts that needed just a smidgen of echo here and there and generally making the track irresistible to dj s with its lovely long beat led intro. these are extremely tasteful edits, done with respect and reverence over 2 parts old school style. look out for those low flying dubbed out vox and lazer beams too, powerful stuff! this is only one of many underground disco classics that the mighty miami based tk disco label brought to the world, reimagined for 2016s dance-floor, officially sanctioned in conjunction with henry stone music / tk disco. file under - classic / essential!

new alias for richard gateaux (aka phoreski) dropping two essential jams for the soft rocks boys on their kinfolk imprint. this devil can dance is a scary anthemic electronic dance monster from the left that will slay many a dance floor this year and has legend written all over it. add to the mix the downtempo delight lone soldier theme that takes a different electronic route with it s echoes of assault on precinct 13 / escape from new york filmic vibe this makes for an essential package.

gerome sportelli presents sporty limited, a new record label managed by himself as a limited vinyl series. after big success with his krax records in 2004, veteran gerome sportelli is back with a new label project. the genre of the label swings between dance floor oriented house and techno, with a touch of acid and of course some dusty old school flavours. gerome’s already active in the music industry since the early 90’s as a producer, dj, label manager, party promoter and graphic designer. his music ‘smells’ old school, just like the early age of acid house, but infused with today’s intelligent constructions and an engaged vision on music. gerome’s music is made from bronze age analogue synths, love, passion and modern digital mixing techniques.for this first sporty limited release, gerome comes out with three stylish tracks. the first track, a side “drive”, is a fat house stomper with strong stabs and female voice hits. the break is intense and works effectively on packed dance floors. b1 is called “free range” and feels like summer. it’s full of classic house sounds, filtered strings and hypnotic loops. this is a chicagostyled, disco sampled, deep and classy house track we love and cherish. the b2 track, “don’t go”, is composed with a classic house bass, shuffled 909 drums and dark space strings. you’ll immediately recognize the deep and melodic detroit house sound.

russian cool cat sportloto (aka andrey rublev) is making quite a name for himself in the remix realm. he comes from the western urals and makes some of the most splendid electronic music around.the title track >will i< started out as an instrumental on our sister labels tirk03 sampler.after bags of attention and plaudits we decided to nudge things into vocal-drive and add a nifty vocal.michelle bee ably assists with a smouldering and sultry tones. if chord movements and darting electronic lines and arpeggios are your thing then you will love the original.on the remix tip fabrizio mamarella (1/3 of clap rules and bearfunk big dog) chips in with the remix.he takes the organic analog route and trims things down nicely for the dance floor.to round off the package and give an enticing glimpse into the cool production skills of andrey, weve also included the track metamorphosis.andrey is busy at work on his debut album for nang as we speak!stay tuned.
