skatman (aziz haddad) is a tunisian born, berlin based producer, dj and label head of scatcity

skatebard & lauer team up for a collaborative 12 on uttu, the two good friends have created some lush house music that draws it’s inspiration from residential crab invasions from skatebards youth. igor tipura returns to the label on remix duties (returning lauers incredible remix from his 2016 bomb dwams). legendary norwegian producer & artist bjorn torske supplies the artwork - rounding off one of uttu’s most aspirational releases of recent times.

scatcity’s label head skatman debuts his first ep on the collective with ‘back in the zukunft’. after a series of appearances on the imprint, the berlin based producer drops a powerful four tracker that sees the return of ivory on the rework.

originally a heavy metal drummer, bård aasen lødemel aka skatebård, got into techno and rave during the 90s. hailing from a small town called Ørsta on the norwegian west coast, lødemel moved to bergen where he quickly became part of the student town s growing club scene. after handing over a homemade demo to tellé records label boss mikal telle, lødemel got signed to tellé offshoot label tellektro in 2001. his first release under the name of skatebård, a 12- mini album called -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was released in 2002, and skatebård s reputation as an excellent techno/electro producer started to spread beyond norway s borders. since then skatebård has gone on to release on labels such as sex tags mania, radius records, supersoul recordings, keys of life finland, luna flicks, totally as well as his own digitalo enterprises. -skateboarding was a crime (in 1989)- was pressed in a very limited edition and sold out quickly. since then it has been a desired object for record collectors and techno and electro aficionados around the globe. now the time has come to make the mini album available again, something this true masterpiece really deserves.

“we hope you enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoy performing it for you!” that’s how tommy mccook used to greet to the audience by at every performance of the skatalites that he hosted. since reforming after an almost 20 year hiatus in 1983, and beginning regular touring as a unit in 1989, they have not stopped thrilling audiences in every corner of the globe. even after 48 years, and various lineup changes as members leave one stage for another, the band continues to perform and record new music in the inimitable jamaican style, like only they can.

skatebard is back on untz untz records. this time in collaborative mode with stiletti-ana to present: the finsk-norsk body language society. the short version of the story goes: skatebard and stiletti-ana meet at a party they both played at hosted by untz untz in berlin 2011. stiletti was there as part of the duo jesse. a drum machine gets a skate signature on it at the end of the night. jesse remixes skates confirmation bias track for untz untz in 2013. fast forward to 2017 and here we are with the deal that was unknowingly signed in 2011 fulfilled. this record was recorded, mixed & dubbed live straight to a two track stereo tape recorder, during a fine january weekend in 2017 at stiletti’s haista ii studio on the island suomenlinna outside helsinki. we hope you like standard moderne, a moderne standard.

very cool ep from skatebard on vivod ! a mixed bag from the prolific norwegian producer showing us why he s still at the top of his game. -maskindans- kicks things off with some speak & spell funk followed by -hissige helger-, a brooding chicago-style banger sure to tear up some discoteques across the planet. on the flip are -langbolgen- and -gloymde skogar-. the former is an acid style work out, the latter is more of a subtle, hypnotyizing opus. all very strong tracks. don t sleep on this. they will go fast !

following his appearance (albeit in remixed form) on the debut 12- from keyboard masher s pleasure unit imprint, norwegian eccentric skatebard is given the honour of releasing the label s second ep. apparently all three tracks are vintage cuts from the archive, previously unheard but original recorded straight to tape in his home studio. there s naturally much to enjoy, beginning with the scandolearic-goes-rave synth-house madness of -react 2 rhythm- - all urgent, swirling beats, epic synthesizer melodies and mid- 90s us garage influences. there s more surging, nu-disco goes-house fare to be found on -it goes on & on (the bassline)-, while -pingu- is a joyous chunk of chugging scandolearica blessed with tactile shaker percussion and a jaunty, rock solid synth bassline.

when talking about ska music one group of musicians whose name always comes to the forefront of the conversation are the skatalites. formed around 1965 and named originally after the soviet space satellite which was big news at the time and with a little help from band member tommy mccook, making a play on the characteristic ska sound made by the guitar when following the after beat of the music. the band would have a name to go with its distinctive musical style.

this is the second release on a series of classical detroit style techno releases from a norwegian bergen based producer skatebård.

only a very few lucky people can call skatebards wonderful debut lp their own. >skateboarding was a crime in 1989< got released on telles electronic offshoot tellektro, home of great norwegian artists like annie or rÖyksopp. the key track on that album was >sgnelkab< which got played and loved to death by djs like sven väth, michael mayer and pascal feos. it instantly became a classic and always remained a secret weapon. the few copies available on discogs cost € 50 and more.... now >sgnelkab< is finally available on a full vinyl side and remastered to great effect! along comes a brand new remix by norwegian techno godfather mental overdrive (r&s). he turned the track into an insanely hot disco rave remix that already got great feedback from the usual suspects. the artwork was accomplished by another scandinavian legend: sähkös very own tommi grönlund!
