after the praise for morning worship, released back in 2015 on royal oak, portuguese duo sabre is back.

with a brimming catalogue of music that operates in the more adventurous quarters of the techno music genre, a sagittariun preps his first release of 2018, with a remix disc of one the holy grail of tracks from one of the most endearing electronic acts of the 1990s. the sabres of paradise, aka andrew weatherall, gary burns and jagz kooner, released a clutch of acclaimed albums, singles and remixes between the years 1992 and 1995, when the trio disbanded. three albums for warp, remixes of the future sound of london, leftfield & lydon, bjork, new order and the dust brothers (aka chemical brothers), and not forgetting the now legendary smokebelch ii single, which must have soundtracked hundreds of thousands of sunsets and chillout after hours over the years, have left a huge treasure trove of a catalogue as part of their legacy. one production though has gone down in sabres folklore, since its release was limited to inclusion on one multi artist compilation cd album only, and it is this track, lick wid nit wit, that a sagittariun has unearthed, licensed and re-moulded, 25 years after it was produced, for release on his elastic dreams label.

plasma audio have been on a roll this year. they have racked up releases from the likes of icicle, safire, rido, proxima, cursa, kolectiv and survey and now they have got a heavy remix single from the mighty alix perez. sabres track yoga came out on plasma in 2014 to critical acclaim and now it has got a whole new lease of life, courtesy of mr. perez, with two new versions.
both remixes have manage hold on to plenty of the originals wonkiness. the club mix creeps along with an irregular pace. buzzing synths call out and reply to each other in a conversation, which builds up an abstract sonic landscape that bulges and swells as the track continues. the warped mix brings more space to the tracks reinterpretation resulting in a more dubbed out feel accentuating the tracks sense of pace.

hailing from the bairros of lisbon, the portugese duo sabre take the helm of tasteful nudes second single. the young pair follow up an ep for w.t. records by expressing adoration for german proto-techno on a majestic scale across a sub-tropical backdrop. bali comes on like a strong cup of psychedelic tea, leaping from a tapestry of gamelan plucks to gigantic, growling bass lines and prismatic synth arpeggios. ging channels manuel goettschings hypnotic synth lines with the dance floor in mind, rubbing shoulders with a gregarious 303 bass line.

dispatch already leading the pack nicely into early 2013 without any pause to stand still or catch a breath! straight off the back of the epic year opener, the *in from the wild* lp from long standing scene heavyweights survival and silent witness… dis064 follows straight up with 2 stone cold slabs of driving tech tinged dance floor devastation.

oh lordy, here we go again. synonymous around the world with the very best in electronic music, critical welcome back three enormous talents from the world of drum & bass, long time scene veteran sabre and songstress riya alongside critical label resident, foreign concept. the results are as you would expect astounding, so delay no more and wrap your ears around some seriously depth defying sounds.

the long awaited everglade graces the a side of meth076, its subtle intro delicately building tension until the funk fuelled riff rises from the layers of pads and strings. forward moving, the explosive percussion loop increases the pace, while midrange stabs add a technical aspect. that said, the strong funk influence within everglade gives this track a character like no other.

make no mistake ?original sin? is a far cry from the sounds of the artist by the same name, as sabre draws us in for a deep, deep journey into the leftfield. glitched up to the max with elements of trip-hop and techno this is a glorious track with lush vocals from tuere that shows the d&b boundaries being pushed yet further into the mystic.

edition 1 is a various artists compilation and the ninth release on alix perez 1985 music. the album is to be understood as a statement of intent as well as a snapshot where the label is right now. alix has assembled his favourite artists operating within the 85bpm / 170bpm axis and the result is a coherent album that cements ties with newcomers such as monty, deft and tsuruda whilst also bringing new light to existing relationships with fracture, ivy lab and chimpo amongst others. its an exciting time for 1985 music, an outlet thats quickly becoming known for great art across the board: be it music, clothing or design.

played by ricardo villalobos -- bass culture welcomes another industry heavyweight to its roster of talent with this new release, which follows hot on the heels of the killer 50th release by mr. g. this latest release comes from long time friend of bass culture owner d julz and dutch techno hero steve rachmad. steve is renowned for his funky take on techno, honing his skills as a dj and producer over 25 years and establishing himself as a respected and hugely talented artist in the process. the first of two tracks on this new ep is entitled * sabre song* - a stomping, illuminating cut straight out of the rachmad school of detroit-influenced techno. d julz heard steve play the track at womb in tokyo and had to sign it on the spot. *sabre song* is a perfect fit for bass culture with its groovy bassline, cutting hats and * big band* instrumentation. on the flip d julz himself contributes an edit of one of steves nineties classic, a favourite of his and one which both men agreed should be given a release. pumping out at a speedy tempo, the force is strong with * activa*, transporting us back to the rave era with its catchy melody, and retro physique. summer vibes all the way with this one.

skam records are very proud to release an album of unheard tracks from one of our very first artists and it feels good to have him back home. jega has always provided his own slant on the genre, with warm standout melodies and his always edgy solid beats driving it all. its good to hear his machines working again after all these years. jega returns with a selection of the year before his seminal first release (ska006). a collection of unreleased tracks from 1995, recorded live to cassette tape and dat, and gathered 20 years later to form 1995. this album provides a glimpse into the fledgling electronic music scene of the 90s.
