matt edwards pyramids of mars label is ready to unleash a fifth release, this time featuring three subtle but high impact slo-disco tracks from the boss himself under his rekid moniker. by now edwards is rightly acclaimed for many different things: the stewardship of his tastemaking labels, his own elongated club cuts for the likes classic & rekids and his more experimental collaborations, not to mention his critically acclaimed lp on the legendary soul jazz label. here he showcases his fun and functional side with a trio of tantalising tracks aimed squarely at the rump.

rekid is the alter-ego of matt edwards a/k/a radio slave, remixer to the stars and dance musics man of the moment whose work with dj hell, kylie minogue (where he famously mixed kylie with new orders >blue monday<), carl craig, talking heads, gwen stefani and even elton john has made him currently one of the most in-demand remixers working today. rekid is the pseudonym he uses for his more serious/underground work and >85 space/retrospective< are two more amazing slabs of tech/disco/slowed down house, his trademark sound as a taster for his forthcoming album >made in menorca< released later in the year on soul jazz records. last year saw the release of the debut rekid release >tranzit< on soul jazz records (which sold out on the first day!). with numerous recording projects (rekid, radio slave, quiet village, mathew e, sea devils), matt edwards music breaks down the traditional barriers of dance music – house, broken beat, techno, electro, hip-hop, disco cut-ups – and influences from walter gibbons to andy weatherall to dj harvey to create a truly unique sound.

freaks was originally the brain child of bournemouths justin harris and london-based luke solomon, but has mutated through its live format into a 6 piece outfit incorporating the infamous jonny rock on guitar, sascha darroch davies on drums, vocalist stella attar and rub on bass. with three albums behind them, a seminal label we know and love as music for freaks and a top 10 hit with >the creeps<, freaks have journeyed through filter disco, quirky mid tempo house and minimal techno to cement their own revolutionary style.
luke, justin and stella are now writing new material for their 4th studio album and a best of compilation (out end 2009). from early demo listening, it looks as if it will be a mesh of all their electronic, disco and leftfield pop influences and will undoubtedly re-introduce their fans to a whole new level of freakish behaviour.
