contemporary italo-disco and foggy rave culture mark margots first 12inch on life and death, amore a bordo pista - a welcomed surprise. machines breathe on a1, where throbbing synth-bass meets timeless vocoder, as premiered on dj tennis essential mix debut. the afterparty and warehouse meld on the flip, a mind-bending time-warp - somewhere between panic and introspection. technicolour signee, dauwd, aces his re-depicton of the title track, hinting at golden-era chain reaction, while kiwi slows down salsce, retaining all of its drive, adding further cosmic brushstrokes. four weapons of the mind, a trippy affair.
releasing timeless music has always been one of the main aims of hivern. sometimes, this purpose asserts itself in curious manners. take margot s moderno , a track made in 2003, several years before the label was born. actually, when pepe and giaga produced the piece for a punk oriented art installation, margot didn t even exist as a project. 14 years later, moderno sounds as fresh and contemporary as it can be. it s one of those cuts that chases a very specific idea with a very unconstrained scheme, that knows exactly where it wants to go, but is not sure about how to get there.
dj ralf is the italian icon who runs the much loved laterra recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘er suonone’, a new track from margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. anyone who has heard the legendary dj ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary bella ciao party and holds a cult residency in cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. as such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. margot, of course, is an italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, les disques de la mort, hell yeah and border community and run their own margot records label. ‘er suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. it’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.
early support by dj ralf, prins thomas, ivan smagghe, erol alkan, ed (chemical brothers), jody wisternoff, sasha, innervisions, jared, luca c, nick warren, fatboy slim, edwin (the foals), reude hagelstein, catz n dogz, laurent garnier, dubfire, martin ikin…
following up to the very well received int026hyr here is yet another exclusive cooperation of internasjonal / full pupp and (italian) friends. this time thomas diskomixes a tribute to margot, ricciones finest dancefloor electronica project, the fortuitous result of the coming together of kindredspirits pepe and giaga robot. prins thomas gets their previosly digital only carreer highlights in example the already classic *goblin* or *randomizzami sto* a twist and - finally- the well deserved release on the classic physical format as well.
les disques de la mort is the new and highly anticipated label from ivan smagghe & the ginger prince. their first release is by the true originals rimini maestros margot, featuring a spellbinding remix courtesy the one and only erol alkan. previously released as a very limited white label, this ecstatic 12 inch now gets a full release!
a few words by steffen bennemann: when i heard margot for the first time, i instantly fell in love with their synth-driven free- form kraut-techno. strong melodies, insanely well-shaped beats, sometimes driving, sometimes bravely bending the rules. after great releases on james holdens border community, ivan smagghes kill the dj and their own label we were more than happy to welcome them in our holger family. here they can show their more experimental side, far beyond common floor/listening conventions and full of synapse-tickling synth magic. plus a secret pop hit (trentaseitrenta), perfect for closing any exceptional club night.
magico disco is a non-clicheed homage to moroder, remixed to great effect by red axes who bring the tempo down, add their cramps licks but never lose the spaced-outness of the original for their medical disoremix
>france 2< deservedly takes the headline-grabbing attention-seeking lead track position: pure mediterranean melodrama with a bold approach to gut-wrenching operatic melody that vangelis himself would be proud of. on a further anthemic tip comes the atonal melancholic vocal symphony of >voci giaga<, whose delicately constructed layers of harmonic voices build up to form something very special indeed. >h2< meanwhile is an exuberant explosion of arpeggios underpinned by an insistent analogue club groove, whilst to finish, the heady, disorientating >oceano< promises to be a key component of many a dj journey over the coming months, leaving your faithful disciples just-the-right-kind-of-lost within the cosy dancefloor bubble. already homegrown heroes in the club scene of their native italy, with the >france 2 ep< the time has come for margots 21st century krautrock message to reach out across the rest of the world.
inc. rmx by sweatshop (eskimo/dirty dancing) big support: v. kanzyani, claude von stroke, tom novy, black strobe, chloe, guy gerber,… following up the huge success of their last 12inch >torch< (great stuff rec) and its amazing extrawelt remix, the three italians margot delivered a great spaced up tune called autunno. when labelboss tomcraft heard that track he immediately jumped on it and wanted to release it on craft music. the belgians sweatshop (dirty dancing/eskimo records) add some more fine harmonies and sensible grooves and make this a pure piece of beauty
an idea who’s time has clearly come, moon rock volume 1 struck a nerve upon release last spring. a collection of deeply atmospheric ambience, cosmic, and chillout techno, it was the opening salvo in a much longer-term effort by nyc-based throne of blood recordings to establish a platform for a diverse collection of friends and musical fellow travellers to explore composing music for folding time and exploring innerspace. now, just months after vol. 1 hit shelves, moon rock volume 2 is upon us…
the sweet-sixteen issue featuring exclusive tracks by young electro prodigy fakear and kitsuné homies logo, as well as soon-to-be classics by the likes of jaws, new puerto rican sensation buscalbulla, dance-punk duo sego, danish beauty kwamie liv and more!
the dust collision of swiss voodoo priestess kate waxs recently unveiled album takes its titular inspiration from switzerlands world-leading large hadron collider, where sub-atomic particles are accelerated into one another, and the subsequent fallout observed for our universal scientific advancement. the first single to be lifted from said album – title track dust collision – is a cornerstone of self-producing autocrat kate waxs personal album philosophy, where humans find new lovers through passing encounters in the night, like particles colliding in the lhc – momentary, exhilarating, predatory, intimate and ecstatic.
