new yorks marcos cabral steps up for his first full release on dimensions recordings, with the nature walk ep. following on from his epic prochainement masterpiece on dimensions 002, the ep provides a glimpse into the mind of a well-established and hugely respected artist. nature walk is a broad ep that demonstrates just why marcos records have been finding their way into a multitude of djs bags for the last fifteen years. from his work with jacques renault as runaway, and his coveted hamilton dance records output to his more recent deeper and darker leanings for leading labels such as clone, l.i.e.s. and mule musiq, marcos has quietly and studiously worked at developing an impressive catalogue which most folks who have brushed with house and techno will have heard, whether they know it or not. the ep provides a snapshot of some of the tastes and styles that marcos has experimented with over the years, the rolling, energetic and optimistic sounding, not quite house, not quite techno of wishful gives way to the brooding, dub techno of title track, nature walk. cape cod sees marcos in classic, house mode with a cut that could easily have dropped on nycs nu groove records, whereas rice a roni is a no nonsense nugget of twisted, grinding, acid. the ep rounds off with lets see how the light goes through it, a spacey hypnotic workout for the late hours and a fitting end to a stand out ep from the self proclaimed, hardest working man!

2013 marks marcos valle s 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the brazilian native s debut long player. for the past few years, light in the attic s been obsessed with valle s early 70s work, originally recorded for the odeon label. it s where a new modern brazilian pop sound effortlessly mixed bossa nova, baio and samba with foreign influences like jazz, rock, pop, soul and funk, bringing to mind the sounds of jean claude vannier and david axelrod. tip!!

the second release in endless illusion s series of split eps comes from marcos cabral & daniel araya and features two tracks from each artist. new york s cabral is known for his experimental idm and techno on labels like l.i.e.s. while daniel araya has recently released an album of acid, techno and industrial on the classicworks label. araya s we almost lost detroit is first and is a truly haunted deep techno cut with sparse acid undulations and a real sense of manic in the rasping synth lines. softer pads in the background only add to the spooky nature of the track. ghost bass is the other araya cut and this one is more up on its toes, with mid tempo kicks down low and wonky chords up top. it s a mind melting tune that trips deep into the night. live at the egg is cabral s first effort and is a lonely and icy techno track that is supple and seductive in its long lines and paddy drums. after getting you into a state of hypnosis, some freaky vocal sounds only add to the unsettling nature of it all later on. cuts & bruises rounds things out in squelchy and depraved techno territory. muted acid stabs are off in the distance as swampy drums suck you in from the front. it s a brilliantly odd tune that close out a fine ep.

walter gas ep from marcos coya is the first release of gas grabaciones, vinyl-only label from the small south american country uruguay. contains two original tracks and a blasting electro-techno remix from argentinian artist franco cinelli aka psynote. analog machines were used on making this tracks and an excelent mastering work, ensuring great sound at playing it. it’s a 300 limited copies release, with cover art from uruguaian artist carlos paez vilaro.

brand new material by marcos cabral following his false memories 2xlp archive release earlier this year. on the capri social ep we see cabral offering three varying tracks all touching upon the outskirts of house, techno and beyond as he captures the energy of the machines to create effective and engaging psychedelic excursions.

a huge departure from his known works, marcos cabral appears on l.i.e.s. with his most dynamic and experimental work to date, the false memories 2xlp. compiled from various cassette tape recordings spanning the years of 1998-2000, here we have the early experiments from an accomplished producer, which showcase the unharnessed energy of youth when it crashes head on with the technology of the day. the songs created by cabral reflect his attempts of the music of the time falling somewhere in between techno, dub techno, idm, and even noise. an engaging and timeless listen the whole way through.

late august will see b.soul music limited release the various artists package thanks 4 nothin , a four-track vinyl only release from the tuscan imprint. marcos baiano s b.soul imprint was launched in 2013 and across its back catalogue has welcomed an array of classic and contemporary talents onto its roster from house legend jovonn through to music for freaks co-founder justin harris and parisian producer terence :terry. here we see the label push on with its second vinyl release set to be released via its ltd offshoot and offered up as a various artist four track package. bosconi soundsystem artist rufus takes the lead on the release with realize dis with classic house tropes, employing a bumpy swinging rhythm as the foundation whilst murky pad swells and spoken word vocals ebb and flow throughout the composition. label-head marcos baiano follows with nullll , stripping things back to shuffled hats and wandering rave stabs before the latter stages introduce a warm ethereal pad. opening up the flip side is retro activity aka ivan iacobucci s rocket edging things into techno territory with weighty drums, mind bending synth flutters and an ever-unfolding, billowing atmosphere. drmc s do not disturb then closes the package on a minimal tip with modulating percussion, minute organic drum shots and airy pad lines laid out over its seven and a half minutes.

this album is another chapter in the ongoing there s-muchmore-to-brazil than-bossa-nova saga. it s filled with disco-eratracks produced for the brazilian domestic marketplace, some of which were hits, others which were quite obscure. what binds them all together - besides their common origins, time period and overall musical approach - is the fact that their reputation has been steadily transcending brazils borders. this has allowed these tunes to find their place on set lists, want lists and in the crates of the world s most discerning djs and tastemakers.

vibe008 open the way to the new techno flavour of the label with nikola gala (rekids) from salonicco, greece. raw sound and dub-techno influences on a1, the dark bassline with this fat kick it s simply killer... breaked by vocal-cut and deep-chord line. attemporal (att series) signed the first remix of the vinyl. the techno duo-project it s one of the new best talent comings out, growing up fast in the scene. with their elegant style the original-mix was been reworked in a conceptual-club version... stay tuned. marcos in dub (highgrade-lokal talk) on b1 pushed out a special remix, just to destroy the main room. love it. on b2 to close the release, kindimmer (lokal talk) that take back us to the detroit-house vibes,with a piano-chord line that floating till the end... feel it.
