FRANGPIAN TO L.A. EP (DJ FETT BIRGER & JAYDA GS CASCADIA MIX)
12" Vinyl D30.05.16
uk house stalwarts, luke solomon & jonny rock, land on futureboogie this summer, with a hefty ep of serious disco vibes, backed with a truly left of center remix from dj fett birger & jayda g (sex tags ufo/freakout cult) as a vinyl only remix. luke solomon has, for years, gifted the house community with countless musical gems, via his own productions and that of freaks (alongside justin harris), as well as the vast catalogue of releases on classic, the label he runs with derrick carter. jonny rock, meanwhile, has graced labels such as wolf & lamb, playhouse and music for freaks (another of luke’s imprints), and has amassed a fine appreciation for music working behind the counter at london record shop institutions, black market and phonica. “luca frangpian” stomps like any classic disco dub should do, leaning on a hook that some keen ears may recognise, its funky bass lick and incessant cowbell wrapped up in guitar licks and idle piano keys. a “dub mix” dispenses of the bass riff and let’s the synths get all ‘freaky deaky’ on yo ass. “groovin to la” on the flip features an understated vocal hook, filtering around vintage disco tropes of parping horns and sweeping strings, as the beats, that elicits that trademark sound that luke has made his own, rattle away gratifyingly. dj fett birger & jayda g takes “groovin to la” on a wander to the seaside for a breezy and kitschy reinterpretation. crashing waves and coastal sounds waft in and out of a gentle melodic rendition, the distorted yet supple percussive beats propping up the kooky summer vibes just right.
powerdance is a collective formed by luke solomon and nick maurer formed as a reaction to bland soul less dance music that seems to infiltrating nightclubs the world over. luke and nicks comradely stems back many many years to their association with the classic music company a label formed by derrick carter and luke. nick maurer was one half of the then prolific greens keepers. this ep for optimo trax features the wigged epically funkoid gem mysterious space plane who doesn t like songs about space? on the other side is the modern hyper jacking more fire. alongside these are a reprise of mysterious space plane and a bonus beats of more fire for those djs who like to, are able to get creative with their mixing
LUKE SOLOMON PRESENTS UNFINISHED BUSINESS VOL. 2 - PART 2
12" Vinyl UK21.01.15
the third 12 inch sampler taken from lukes unfinished business compilation series, this time featuring a lost dub of the nails classic hurt u featured as part of the kittens single back in the year 2000. nail is enjoying a fantastic and deserved renaissance at the moment and will felt it was high time let this baby loose. this is followed by another lost gem from the wonderful tak label. the last unfinished business compilation featured the timedwellers and now it’s time for collis king, look out for some unreleased gems to be featured on an ep from classic later this year. number 3 is the tripped out vocal classic from sandee - given some modern day remastering business a record that has proven to be totally timeless - and a stalwart at luke and kenny hawkes legendary space nights at bar rumba. and finally - lukes very own stop the riot - the first single he recorded with sam lynham from gramme championed by the likes of skream on radio one and nemone on 6 music - we felt the single deserved its very own place on vinyl.
unfinished business is the latest step for luke solomon, a mix album for his kaleidoscopic talents that gives him the chance to highlight what is still the bedrock of his extraordinary career: being behind the turntables and digging out those records you really should be listening to but might have missed in the avalanche of background noise. this handpicked four track sampler highlights some of the exclusive vinyl only releases from the forthcoming compilation.
over the course of his twenty-plus-year-long career, luke solomon has made one hell of a name for himself: he has released dozens of singles and eps on labels like crosstown rebels, rekids, cajual, and playhouse, to name a few, founded his own imprint, classic, with longtime friend and co-conspirator, derrick carter, dropped four albums, and had a hand in well over 100 remixes. as one might expect, it is a tremendous honor to now welcome the veteran dj and producer to lph, where we think he fits in perfectly, despite being the artist in our ranks with the most impressive tenure.
when luke solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with local talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we have been fans for a long time and mats actually booked him to his raw fusion club in the late 90s. he has been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. we couldnt agree more. lost channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby new york inspired house track comes in two versions. the raw & stripped version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with lukes trademark percussion sprinkled on top. the live piano version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. bubbly fx, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline. for remix duties it is the return of an old local talk friend, wil maddams. it seems like wil has spent some time in detroit since last time. this remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the d, his clever drum programming holds this track together with its deep pads and bubbling bassline. it is a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.
next fullbar killer release with kalabrese (perlon) and losoul (playhouse) remixes... already supported by tricksi, 6th borough project, tornado wallace, motorcitysoul, iron curtis, roman flügel, seth troxler, jozif, sebo k, ed davenport, kate simko, matt tolfrey...
luke solomon is undeniably one of british house music?s unsung heroes, with an impressive track record of underground success. no-one could debate luke solomon?s dance music credentials. from setting up the seminal label classic recordings with derrick carter to taking quirky house to the uk top 10 and international charts, with his band freaks, to djing around the globe and performing live, luke has been there for many of the more interesting 4/4 moments of the last decade. this latest release from luke comes complete with a hefty remix package from fellow classic member derrick carter as well as from buzz name kamo! lukes main mix encompasses everything we have come to love and adore about lukes music. so those that are up to speed will know exactly what to expect! needless to say this package is banging and ready to be used by all educated turntablists and music enthusiasts
well, what can we say. do we have to say something? hell yeah! as its a luke solomon release under his new moniker lukatron! the first >lukatron< release ever - world premiere! the man is classic, the music is classic. 4 toolish tracks with a oldschool house and techno flavour, the way quite some fellas out there like it (and us too). as you can see, this is part 1 of a series of lukatron releases. and we are happy to have luke on board!
the original is driving disco house that builds, twists and turns…! jonny had played the track at t bar and it had been heard by mr g (rekids) who requested to do the remix which is a more minimal late night groover that will appeal more to those that are more in touch with their tech side. great release by the sometime freaks
overjoyed house collides with the winking interpretation of funk. and in addition to that, both freaks deliver an oldschool acid-version of the same track for the flipside. this will definitly cause some unforgetable wild party-memories this summer
brand new single from luke solomon and and rekids on limited white labels but its the prins thomas mix thats got us salivating here in the office. its a chuggy monster of a track that ll throw you into nirvana. a beauty!

rekids present >ghouls< by the multi-talented music for freaks luke solomon. a massive stomper of a record with heavy drums aplenty - this is the peak time jackin house that luke does to perfection. this killer 12inch also features a hot remix from man of the moment >claude von stroke<. he takes things strictly minimal but bouncy then beefs things up near the end of his mix as the bassline turns much more snarling. perfect for the dance floor!
a man that needs no real introduction gives us the first in a series of offerings. luke solomons newest production company bad brains and black flags brings us two new hot tracks. the title track phantoms with its bass driven punk edge and the b side end of days with its more tweaky white noise kinda feeling. another example of how punks and electronics can coincide harmoniously. whatever your pleasure we re sure you ll dig this one just as much as we do
