watergate affairs is a brand new offering featuring residents, regulars and affiliated artists that have developed close ties to the club through the years. over the course of four tracks, jimi jules, lee jones, la fleur and david mayer & sebastian voigt perfectly display the sound of watergate. diving right in is jimi jules and he hasnt let lost a step, picking up where he left off with his stellar bogota ep earlier this year by churning out a burner. 6% is rooted in a heaving low end groove while hypnotic tones spiral around a modulating lead that never lands in the same place, ensuring a twisted dance floor venture.

limited nice price action !!! situated by the river spree, known for its fist-rate lineups of international talent and of course its famous wall to wall led dance floor installation, the watergate club in berlin has quickly become one of the worlds leading dance music clubs. only 5 years after its official opening the club went a step further and started a characteristic mix cd series delivering only the best dj mixes by some of clubs most exciting residents and guests like sascha funke, sebo k, ellen allien. with the focus being put not only on the music but also on the packaging and design, this series became quickly a truly sought-after collectors item and is surely stand out in flood of mediocre music and. mixes that often dilute the market

whether on his own or with nick hoppner as my my lee jones has been djing and making music for more than a decade. in 2008 jones released his debut full-length lp “electronic frank” on aus music. his solo releases and remixes have appeared on labels such as aus music, ostgut ton, liebe*detail and cityfox and last year, he did his first ever mix cd for the world famous watergate club. next up from the talented producer is a futuristic 4-tracker on aus, incl 2 remixes from george fitzgerald and midland. for the lead track moment, jones offers up a bass driven house number that hints at his jazz roots whilst pushing forward into garage territory. for the remix, george fitzgerald delivers his most straight up, heads down house production to date. next up is duvel, a characteristically quirky jones production, bouncy and deep all at once but with a bass line that will hold its own at peak time. midland steps up for the remix, twisting it into a moody multi-genre convergence like only he can.

aria is a striped back but purring with refined detail and melody. lees classic delicate and distinctive groove rich with percussive fills is present and correct. beautiful strings combine with an embellished swirling pad to create a lush palette of melody that will remain firmly lodged in your brain. with the tiger stripes remix, its as if lees original has been injected with growth hormones. the melody is intact and the vibe remains, albeit bigger, tougher and firmly peak time.

aus continue to release the best and brightest of contemporary dance music with the oehug the scary ep, a collaboration between luminaries will saul and lee jones. will saul is best known as the head of simple records, up for nomination as best british label in dj magazine this year and also sister label to the more experimental aus imprint on which this ep is released. in his career to date he has released numerous singles on simple, the critically acclaimed space between album and has recently produced an ep for the german label systematic. englishman in berlin lee jones has to date released acclaimed singles on liebe detail, aus and his own label, just rec. formerly releasing under the moniker hefner , he is also a main creative force behind playhouse my my, whose oesongs for the gentle album won plaudits worldwide in 2006. opener oehug the scary is a transcendental journey. trace echoes of melody encircle an intensifying percussive step, filtering to a chimed key reflection. tonal themes fade in, compete, distort and then depart, making way for peaks of overwhelming melody, with only the fittest surviving and elevating to the sublime. on the flip side, partial arts (the duo of ewan pearson and al usher) give their own, heavily percussive, account of proceedings. stormy fuzz and bubble bath accents introduce a funk bassline and interplay between looped guitar and tonal melody. a sci-fi synth haze halts and then dictates the progression into a saturated melodic climax.
