over the last 12 years, kel mckeown, or kelpe, has carved himself a unique perch in the uk s electronic underground. across several full-lengths, eps and remix projects, his misfit electronica has managed to cohere a staggeringly deep spectrum of influence along the way. a natural son and heir to generation warp and the fathers of krautrock, his pioneering experiments in the early 00s also positioned him as one of many stylistic precursors to the arrival of la s now-sprawling beat scene. much like scene-savants prefuse 73 and dimlite, kelpe has remained an enormously respected stalwart of the fringes, always dabbling variously in sampleheavy beat-craft, oddball ambient, and more recently dancefloor-ready club grub.

kelpe makes his first outing on don’t be afraid as part of their coveted dba dubs series. monte verità sees the london based beat veteran at his housiest (sic) yet. the track sports a low slung four to the floor and a deadly analogue funk bassline. kevin reynolds improvises on the original with a more upbeat outsider house groove and an acid line guaranteed to bring the dancefloor to its knees. since coming to the attention of dc recordings in early 2003 kelpe has released three albums, the latest of which *the golden eagle* dropped this year to critical acclaim. detroits kevin reynolds has consistently turned heads with his unique take on the modern house sound. as well as releases on his own nsyde recordings he has appeared on cult us imprints like todchai and love what you feel.

british artist kelpe (pronounced: kelp) releases his latest jewel called chocolate money ep on dutch label fremdtunes. the 4-track ep is filled with glitchy beats and spherical melodies and kelpe once again makes a powerful musical statement with this release. title track chocolate money sounds like a forgotten turkish funk gem, with a saz twanging into the foreground over a backdrop of burbling moogs and heavy percussion.

after last years eps for black acre and (fellow dutch indie label) fremdtunes, kelpe releases his first ever 7 inch on myor. >same new era< treads the fine line between hip hop influenced, analogue sounding electronics and his signature, slightly off kilter, moody disco vibes. for the remix on the flipside, spaniard (and myor stalwart) nino injects it with a healthy dose of chopped up r&b vocals and purple funk synths.
