nach trikfilm und im namen des mänschen folgt mit maekelpott das dritte solo-release von trik17. wie die beiden vorgänger ist die platte komplett von oskar hahn produziert worden. kratzige unterstützung von dj polar. der gewohnt knackige boombap-sound gepaart mit authentisch kritischen texten, aber auch der ein oder anderen ohrfeige, drückt dem werk den gut-mänschlichen stempel auf die pausbäckchen. die scheibe erscheint in einer limitierten 300er vinyl-auflage über soultunes und bietet 10 anspielstationen.

stocker s revenge takes place as a short story inspired in a vampire theme where the author transmits his homeland legacy to a contemporary musical field, sotries and legends of chaste lineage that have inspired musicians and artist for centuries with concerns for the tenebrous chronicles , making different recreations of it with cruelty and vileness as its main element. orlock 101 is a new talent in european scene which inspires his artistic framework in the myth created by bram stocker, this transilvanian artist debuts as producer with the next soil records release.

k15 returns to wotnot after more killer releases on eglo & wild oats, a collaboration with henry wu, and remixes for nubya garcia, colm k (on tiffs joints) and wotnot s own william florelle, not to mention the beautiful record earlier this year under his culross close alias. we re all creative but somehow, being creative has become a class within itself, often defined and measured by the whims of popular culture and monetary gain, which leads us to devalue what we create if we are not successful by those metrics. we are all creative, we all use our experience, talent and feeling to shape and we should be glad we create anything. this ep holds onto this mantra tightly throughout, reflecting both the meditative and joyful effects of unimpeded creativity. the title track begins with k15s signature introspection, deep washes of jazz-inflected textures before exploding into a rapturous syncopated synth groove. b1 communion explores the spiritual angle with a devotional piano cadence over bouncing drum pattern, with interlocking bass and synth rhythms adding to the hypnotic mood. wrapping up the release is a warm, deep-soak hip hop instrumental titled you re alive (theres still time), a message to self but also a beacon of hope to those who have maybe not created as much as they would have liked, or have strayed from the path the intended to take.

over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. ‘a learning curve’ is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g’s mesmerising ‘navigate’ and k15’s introspective ‘the guilt within’, two very individual tracks in their own rights. ‘navigate’ is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, ‘the guilt within’ takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to ‘navigate’. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

long celebrated as a hub for new producers to showcase their talents, cdr return to the releasing game in partnership with dimensions festival. up and coming house heads k15 and fyi chris reportedly invited lismore and ben houghton to take part in this collaborative release, resulting in four tracks that wouldn t sound out of place soundtracking a balmy afternoon dance on the adriatic sea. oozing quality and soul throughout, there s a distinctly laid back flavour to the house on offer across this release, although fyi chris add a touch more bite with their grubby lo-fi synth lines on -sugar-.
