jazzanova are proud to announce their next full length, the pool, is due for release via their own sonar kollektiv. it is their most mature and musical album yet and welcomes a host of talented collaborators including jamie cullum, ben westbeech, pete josef, rachel sermanni, olivier st louis, paul randolph and many more.
they might not have put out an album in the last decade, but by no means have jazzanova been out of the picture. instead members alex barck, claas brieler, axel reinemer, jürgen von knoblauch and stefan leisering have been focussing on a diverse range of projects, as well as becoming parents. from running their jrs studio to a&ring a wealth of new talent for their jazzanova label via for producing others and, of course, continuing to play their unique live shows around the world, they are as immersed in music as ever.

the musical connection between berlin and detroit has always been a very strong and inspring one. jazzanova continues this close dialogue by putting mike huckaby in charge of remixing their latest song i human. huckaby is one of the unsung heroes of detroit techno. with his highly acclaimed deep house productions and remixes for deepchord, juan atkins, vladislav delay, pole, loco dice, losoul, and pacou, (just to name a few) he is more than well respected in the citys underground community and way beyond. his remix for jazzanovas latest track (off the brilliant album funkhaus studio sessions) split into two pieces on this 10inch, is a belter by all means. if you wouldnt know better,youd mistake it for a larry heard/mr. fingers production. still huckaby is putting his very own distinctive touch to this rework: a groovy rhythm section is added for extra emphasis on the dancefloor.and as the track builds we find ourselves in deep house heaven screaming for more. you better order two copies of this limited 10inch, in order to seamlessly mix part 1 intopart 2 - or vice versa

on the occasion of the sixth record store day in april, sonar kollektiv releases for the first time a limited 300 copy special edition in celebration of the day, the vinyl and the record store. and it wouldnt be sonar kollektiv wouldnt we be treated with a very special goodie: the new shooting stars and new signings of the label, paskal and urban absolutes took a classic out of the extensive repertoire of the label to task, that night by jazzanova from 2001.

jazzanova takes it to the next stage: the funkhaus studio sessions. jazzanova producers, stefan leisering & axel reinemer, went into the studio with their 7piece live band with paul randolph on vocals to record a 14 track set.

this is the first of two 12inchs accompanying the jazzanova remix compilation upside down. the remix by dima studitsky on the b-side is a bonus not to be found on the compilation!

sonar kollektivs inclination towards dubbed out pop/dance music is definitely no secret (see fat freddys drop or eva be). but with this brand new 7inch the berlin label hits the nail on the head. chicago-born jeremy sole is one of the program selectors at renowed la radio station kcrw and hosts a weekly party in santa monica where he blends afrobeat, funk, reggae, latin, brazilian and everything else under the sun!

the second remix 12inch for jazzanovas >i human< is another stunning collection of reworks by some of todays finest club music producers.

within the whole >i human< remix package this is probably the funkiest 12inch of them all. it is a gathering of the funkiest remixers/producers at the moment.

jazzanova takes it to the next stage: the funkhaus studio sessions.

the 12 inch features the mesmerizing vocal delivery by detroit singer/musician paul randolph. randolph is a steady member of the jazzanova live band and has been touring with them over the last few years. in his words, >i human< is a statement of the feeling you have when you create music and interact with people in a one-on-one and personal live situation, instead of ambivalent text messages and e-mails. and thats what you can hear in this wonderful piece of live recorded music. uplifting, life affirming, soul soothing and yes, human!

this is the second of two 12inchs accompanying the jazzanova remix compilation upside down. next to the motor city drum ensemble remix off the compilation it features two bonus tracks: the remix by manuel tur & dplay and a special dub edit of the mcde remix.

jazzanova lands on wurst! early dj support comes from soul clap, radio slave, dimitri from paris, ewan pearson, sebo k, rob mello and slow hands. weve done the unthinkable, scored the unimaginable, and wrangled none other than jazzanova (!) for an über-limited one-sided vinyl-only release. while >i can see< feat ben westbeech came out a few years back, filippo moscatellos most excellent disco version never saw the light of day - until now, of course. doesnt much more sunshine-filled and soul-drenched than this stellar take on the esteemed berlin collectives original, and we are both honored and humbled to get to work with both jazzanova and their label sonar kollektiv, and of course filippo himself, on this very special release. filippo moscatello started to produce music in 1994 under the dj naughty moniker, and has since gone on to work with labels like gigolo, eskimo, and moodmusic to name but a few, releasing the artist albums disco volante (gigolo) and pagliaccio (moodmusic), as well as the acclaimed compilation, one naughty night in berlin (eskimo). in addition to his production work, filippo maintains a club residency at cookies in berlin called luv dancin where hes played along special guests like moodymann, jerome sydenham, ata, bottin and loud e.

jazzanova are a berlin based producer collective consisting of the jazzanova dj-team (j?rgen von knoblauch, alexander barck, and claas brieler), the producers of extended spirit (stefan leisering and axel reinemer), and kosma (roskoe kretschmann). jazzanova had discovered their sonic brotherhood djing at berlins delicious doughnuts club and hooked up as a team back in 1995.
ever since gilles peterson played their first track, >fedimes flight< on his radio show in 1997, jazzanova have been asked to produce remixes for many of their idols, acts like u.f.o., 4hero, incognito, and azymuth.

jazzanova have given us an extremely nice christmas gift this year. they produced together with secret love hero sascha gottschalk aka thief a lovely one sided 7 single. the sirens call is based on a jazzanova instrumental of the same name to which thief has added lyrics and written a melody. limited collectors item
