time for a little recognition… pets welcome a true polish techno founding father to the fold: jacek sienkiewicz. dj since the early 90s, producer since the late 90s and one of the earliest artists to stamp their country down on the techno map, jacek was one of the first polish producers to be signed by the likes of trapez, cocoon and klang and laid down the foundations for the likes of pets founders catz n dogz several years later when they emerged as 3 channels. og status confirmed, hes remained just as consistent as he is influential. this single is proof: ‘su17 is a bubbling sine cauldron that starts with a simmer but builds to a boil with its ever-morphing, lava-like flow. expert drum momentum and sudden layers of instrumental help to create a fluid three-track-in-one experience that spellbinds you crowd for the entire eight minutes without realising. ‘mustang is a cascading synth odyssey that gently rises and falls like an escher looped staircase. gradually building in momentum with more of jaceks signature hypnosis flare, its not until the drums double up with an almost live-style visceral feel that you realise just how high jaceks taken you. it comes complete with a star-lit switch from berlins serial innovator tobias, where the synths are deftly refocused and a whole layer of orchestral delight are layered within.

recognition opens up its archives and invites to a futuristic sentimental journey with respective stages set by the records 9702 (cd version) and 9799 (four exclusive tracks on a vinyl ep). four tracks from single come from the time of jacek sienkiewicz’s first record (recognition cd).

synthesiser genius max loderbauer (nsi, sun electric, vilod, moritz von oswald trio) and techno experimentalist jacek sienkiewicz (recognition) combined for a stunning live show on the opening night of festival 2015. blending harmonic drones and almost unrecognizably distended vocal samples with adroitly weighted melodic passages, this collaboration was a masterclass in expertly crafted ambient music from two of the genres’ leading exponents. two passages from this set have been mastered and cut to vinyl in a special 12” with artwork by pedro maia based on his visuals for the show.

in the world of factory presets, default settings and copy-paste ethics, there are few artists that actually care to make a difference. and -who told you that?-, 29th release on warsaw recognition label, is certainly a voice to be heard. the title track is another subtle narrative from label boss jacek sienkiewicz. eerie chord and a solid, damp beat from the start are underpinned by sherds of dialogue - snippets of words and laughter keep coming back in the mix, providing some sort of uneasy commentary towards todays minimal house formula. but at some point the voices disappear - and then the tracks gently goes somewhere outside the boundaries of todays club music, somewhere otherworldly. this shift, albeit amazingly subtle, is a leap towards music free of any defined context, far beyond dancefloor and definitely original. if this sneak peak into the possible futures of manmachine induced visions is too much to handle, there is still the b-side of this release. two tracks here - both clocking around mere 5 minutes - are prime exercises in compact, clever, tight and efficient club tools. uplifting -cobalt drive- is bound to to be quoted and reworked into many forms of a late-night burner. patefon, on the other hand, is a peak-time stormer with its stuttering chords and moody samples, supposedly picked from some vintage shellac discs

after the exquisite eastern promises ep on recognition, pier bucci & jacek sienkiewicz again join forces for another two slices of romantic extravaganza, this time for piers maruca imprint. both artists seem to share a certain sensibility and inclinations towards a sort of a modest elegance – which is as much old-fashioned, as utterly charming. droga mila is a perfect example of this obviously mature attitude. rhythms, although quite fast-paced, are never aggressive, clearly aimed towards the audience keen to hear much more behind the kick drum. warm, organic and wrapped in feathery padding, those beats are contrapuncted by arpeggiated synth line, bringing a distant hint of melancholic uneasiness. add some mind-bending post-industrial soundscapes and heres almost 9 minutes of fairly engaging exercise going beyond your daily dose of generic minimal techno. flip the record for a track simply designed to become a classic. luna, built around a notorious female vocal sample, is indeed evoking a frozen full moon on a cloudless sky. clocking steadily over 12 minutes, this epic story never gets boring, breathing life and mystery all over the place. both artists trademark mechanical noises and breakdowns are here, twisting and turning the ways of the song, together with pitch-black bass stabs and some of this notorious jazzy vibraphone sounds. the track slows down and accelerates, never losing its plot and consequently wrapping up this long, wintery, dark bedtime story. yet another winner from two friends from two different corners of the globe – eastern europe and south america have never been so close

first seconds into already 27th release on recognition, and we immediately know that there is serious business going on here. stunningly complex drum track goes like clockwork, only setting the scene for what is to come. forget the craft of drum programming - we are talking another dimension here. >modern dance< is like being suddenly dropped into suspended animation: having that peculiar feeling that the world around is accelerating to the verge of a seizure - and at the same time this very world feels so slow... unnamable, transparent sheets of sound almost give no room to breathe - but ones breath is taken away by the magnificent landscape it s about to appear. shapes shift under half-closed eyelids, and while the low, peaceful yet sad chant comes in, one can feel it like an omnipresent breath, burning hot and marble cold at the same time. this mysterious and heart-wrenching voice comes courtesy of one yula, and were gonna surealy hear much more from her in the future. and it seems that the beats literally start to boil... rhythms shuffle and swing, and taken the lack of floating melodies abundant in jaceks earlier output this track is even more outstanding from theproducers former work - probably acting as a bridge towards new visions, appearing in the confidence of the new, almost-perfect studio.

for the 25th release on recognition, one of the premiere polish export goods, label boss jacek sienkiewicz teams with a longtime friend, and extraordinary musician, chilean maestro pier bucci. both have been playing together for some time now, and this debut studio recording hopefully will not be the last. despite obvious cultural differences, both artists share some curious sensibility and/or sort of modern romanticism - underpinned either with latin optimism (bucci) or a kind of slavic melancholy (sienkiewicz). add to this the dopest tech-house beats available today, and dancefloor destruction is guaranteed.the title track is a cross-genre time bomb, obviouslydesigned to mess with the heads while the bodies can t stop moving. kicking off with driving, solid beat of almost live feel, soon it develops into a symphony of carefully crafted and meticulously assembled sounds. we are treated by some strange woodwinds, jokingly reminding of jacek s previous hit outing, beacon , and... is this the pope we hear talking for a moment...? …

while for many of his contemporaries repetition became a new standard rather than innovation, jacek sienkiewicz with every release seems to be broading his musical horizons and challenging new territories. beacon seems to be even more organic than previous recognition releases, and the warm, yet unstoppable beat workout suddenly goes all jazzy and cinematic, with irresistible saxophone hook. big surprise here, but jacek blends the sounds into one of his trademark, 12+ minutes long, massive club anthem. another surprise is brought by the flipside - this remix is courtesy of the man of the moment michel bauman, here applying his soulphiction alter ego to dark, smoky and very tropical variation on a familiar theme. all over, another very impressive release from jacek sienkiewicz, man who never fails to impress.

side a: indochina, people, nature, instruments - this is -my trips-. it s a story about far places and smiley people. the other 3 positions on the release are booked for -musical gili- - hindu temples and incenses which let us to zone out. the second track on the side a is an atmospheric remix from jacek sienkiewicz s hands, the owner of recognition and one of the oldest cocoon recordings players. on the side b we find -musical gili- in original version and michael wolski s remix with a strong technical accent at the end. wolski is our man from international day off and technosoul.
