hbe are eight brothers from the south side of chicago. they come from an extraordinary musical family. other sisters and brothers are professional musicians, their mothers are singers, and philip cohran, their father, has roots running back to mississippi, his time in the musical hothouse of 1940s st louis, and his seminal role with sun ra in chicago in the 1950s.

the hypnotic brass ensemble is eight brothers from the south side of chicago, all sons of the sun ra trumpeter philip cohran ? a street marching brass band in the new orleans tradition, jazz to dance, with a funk sensibility honed by hip hop. here are two scorchers from the imminent album. written by philip cohran in memory of alyo tolbert, star dancer for the montu dance company in chicago, alyo is its hardest, funkiest track (with malcolm catto from the heliocentrics on drums), and in memory of the bands friend and rabblerouser, flipside freddie, the flip wobbles and woozes, tippy toes and pirouettes, with the spirit of mingus in its gait. one pressing only, in metallic ink sleeve.
