vaudou game, the french afro-funk band, is back from togo with a brand new album called otodi (out oct 26th 2018).
otodi was the name of the recording studio in lomé, closed in 1987, and which peter solo, the band leader and his crew reopened during the spring 2018 to record these all analog 13 brilliant songs.
from this amazing album, here comes a 7 inch single dedicated to afro-funk dj’s and radio. pure afro-funk with togolese soul!

this is a collaboration between producer nostalgia 77, synth wizard matthew bourne and maverick drummer tim giles. drum machines and acoustic drums, synths, filters and echos. an irreverent homage to the radiophonic workshops, pierre henri & their kin.

alexx a-game makes his return to swing ting after last year’s ‘a-game everyday’ & ‘gangsters’ with the soulfully poignant ‘braver’. the 7” is the 1st physical drop on fact magazine’s label of 2016, following well-received equiknoxx & madd again! releases in 2017. in 2015 swing ting’s samrai & platt received a tune from alexx’s manager, ‘braver’ asking if they’d be able to contribute to the production on the track. listening to the stems, it became apparent how amazing alexx’s vocal delivery sounded stripped to just the rhodes & bassline played by frequent a-game collaborator & fellow jamaican vern hill. after adding effects and flourishes the crew began playing the ‘smooth edit’ on swing ting radio shows and at dj sets around the globe.

following up on their recently released pertiwi ep, featuring two original tracks and a 10 minute soundbath rework of this very record by gonjasufi, gamelan voices (aka nid & sancy) present their first album, aptly titled i.the result is a visceral blend of raw gamelan instruments, atmosperic synths, bass guitar and washes of asian metallophones.although the nine tracks on this album are meditative in nature, you d be wrong to assume this package is little more than new age synths noodling away. i is ambient with a raw component. it touches a nerve and it s as much inspired by the work of jon hassell as it is by coil. i will be released through gong ear and available on digital,cd and vinyl.

time runs fast and it s time again for our annual vinyl release. for our second delivery we have on board two of the best producers in the techno panorama, no other than tensal and p.e.a.r.l.
tensal opens the release with his own particular version of the original, enforcing the beats adding white noise sweeps, twisting the sound and rearranging the structure in a clever and hypnotic vein. following on b2 a special edit version of the original mix.
on b side p.e.a.r.l. is on remixing duties offerin a raw beat exercise as remix one and a more complex rework as bonus remix to close the release.

modern boogie bangers! computa games drops its second vinyl release on new orleans own superjock records. “computer rock (og mix)” is that feel good funk with heavy bass, smooth synths and vocoder vocals to top it off. the flipside, “computer rock (west coast mix)” gets a g-funk treatment giving it that boom bap that you can rock to! definitely a staple for the crates.

when faced with the decision to take a different direction at the risk of getting lost in a synthetic sound or to further explore the same musical path, vaudou game did not need to consult the oracle for very long when putting together their new album.

serge born in russia came to the usa in the late 80s, got heavily in hiphop and digging in the crates for breaks and loops as well as production under dj supreme one moniker. he worked with such industrys heavyweights as masta ace, edo g, guru and many more. serge is an avid vinyl collector of soul, funk, jazz, disco, boogie. loads of good music is to come from serge gamesbourg.

the first musical scale on apiafo leans towards raw funk with a sound similar to the famous 70s bands, l orchestre poly rythmo de cotonou and el rego. funk, is the skeletal structure of this record, and provided the opportunity for peter to invite his uncle, roger damawuzan - the famous pioneer of the 70s soul scene – on two tracks. their collaboration on *pas contente* is a highlight on this 100% analog album. apiafo was entirely recorded, mixed and mastered with old tapes and vintage instruments.
