thats desire/here we are ep is a 12inch vinyl and digital release by fragile, wolfgang tillmans evolving band project that spans from early recordings in 1986 with bert leßmann to a full band ensemble made up of a group of musicians in new york in 2016. the double a-side ep opens with thats desire, a collaboration with the new york rapper ash b. the song evokes associations with dfa, daf and a queer talking heads. in a spontaneous action ash b. takes over the mic and raps over tillmans heartfelt lyrics, originally written in 1985, combined with a funky bass line by thomas roach. the experiment results in a driving indie-dance sensation about the pleasure and pain of getting lost in ones own desire.
commix completes his generation ep series with part 3, carrying on from where the 2nd instalment left off. again, the ep explores commixs influences from electronic music and beyond, culminating in an extremely polished final part that were excited to release.
with lukas lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as this is why ep. the a-side kicks off with the discoish banger q&h and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by lorenz rhode not only famous for his releases on compost records or exploited but also for taking detroit-swindle-liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. the deeper side of lukas’ sound is represented on the b-side. starting with edgy piano chords, solid/fragile (coexistence) introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. with its distinctive strings, nothing but a heartache makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

biosphere is the main recording name of geir jenssen (born 30 may 1962), a norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. he is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. his 1997 album substrata was voted by the users of the hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album.
sounds of the universe is one of depeche modes lower-key albums, but not without explosive or dramatic moments by any means. the sense of older styles and sounds - classic drum machines, early synthesizers, a rumbling bass undercarriage - serves new purposes. on the whole, sounds of the universe is a grower, relying on a few listens to fully take effect, but when it does, it shows depeche mode are still able to combine pop-hook accessibility and their own take on roots music for an electronic age with sonic experimentation and recombination - not bad for a band with almost three decades under its collective belt. pressing on 180 gram audiophile double vinyl.
known amongst a small group of teenage friends as t.r.a.s.e (tape recorder and synthesiser ensemble) this previously unearthed and fully formed electronic music project was spearheaded by a 16-year-old schoolboy as an extension of his woodwork, metalwork and science classes in 1981. composed and recorded using a self-made synth, audio mixer and electronic percussion units t.r.a.s.e would bridge the gap between a love for sci-fi horror soundtracks, gary numan b-sides and an extra curricular hobby as a sound and lighting designer for school plays – bequeathing a backstory as unique and unfathomable as the individualistic sonic results that he would finally commit to c90. having successfully recorded his only solo album, electronic rock (which was never duplicated beyond his own demo copy), this early musical achievement by andy popplewell stands up as a rare self-initiated example of embryonic experimental electro pop and genuine outsider music, marking the early domestication of synthesisers and the dawn of electronic home recording studios and the uninhibited results.
