hot off the heels of his recent work for photeks dj kicks mix, san fran sound scientist djg makes his debut on getdarker, further cementing his position as global bass raconteur. battering the myth that us dubstep is all about the bro-down, his versatility and boundary-defying musicianship has been recognised and celebrated on both sides of the atlantic since his very first release… which was spun by n-type on rinse fm, no less.

after hearing djg whilst on the hunt for music for his dj kicks mix compilation, photek loved these tracks so much he not only included them both on the album, but also signed them up to photek productions. born and raised in the san francisco bay area, dean j. grenier a.k.a djg landed in the world of dubstep in 2007, and immediate support on rinse fm and in the clubs propelled djg to the forefront of american dubstep producers early in his career. he has released on wheel&deal, transistor, pushing red, warm communications and has a forthcoming single for tectonic.

the second release from dubs alives sister label, tuba, features the deep and intense sound of the uks j:kenzo. his a side track, nocturnal feelings is a dark, serious work that brilliantly juxtaposes hard bass lines, frantic percussion, and atmospheric depth. the b side debuts the spit brothers on vinyl with beg to differ, a sub driven, meditative, and minimalistic affair. the record closes with djgs reformat of beg to differ. this forward thinking track showcases djgs intelligent approach to bass music. his reformat balances the deep with the dance oh-so-well.

with the success of pushing reds first two releases, we decided we would step things up with remixes from the scenes top producers in their respected genres. both f & headhunter need no introductions fusing unique ideas & production values when it comes to dubstep & techno. these two remixes showcase both style and class in a way that only f & headhunter can pull off and we are truly honored to have them involved.

known in many circles for his wonderful dubstep excursions comes san francisco native djg with his excellent take on drum & bass. this is his first release when it comes to d&b and we are very proud to be releasing these amazing tunes! welcome aboard! a. hydrate a deep menacing vibe kicks things off a a steady kick while claps and thick snare are sprinkled throughout leading up to a thunderous reese that will challenge any system. muffled horns and vocals keep things interesting leading up to a subterranean breakout takes things into dubby territory! a truly wonderful piece of original music! aa. hydrate ( consequence remix ) known for his work with the autonomic crew, consequence seemed the perfect match to recreate an already wonderful tune and does a great job with this remix. a hazy intro with dusty crackles leads into the tunes signature kick with claps. dubby stabs with a drawn out horn take things deeper before the bass punches through. consequence has taken his signature minimal sound and added upon the original for a truly deep, original recreation. these are the kind of remixes we like! dub dub dub!!!
