neuer teil der good times dj-mix-serie von norman jay. die good times goes east partys in der st john church im londoner stadteil hackney sind eine institution der club-kultur der britischen hauptstadt. norman jay, lange teil der talkin loud-familie, ist seit den 80er jahren als dj tätig und dafür bekannt in seinen sets einen genre-übergreifenden mix zu realisieren. so ist *good times - skank & boogie* musikalisch entsprechend weit gefächert: von laurel aitken über deodato bis hin zu paul johnson reicht der bogen. ska, house und exotischer pop treffen schlüssig aufeinander. jay, der auch bei der bbc eine radiosendung unterhält, wurde inzwischen mit dem orden mbe (the most excellent order of the british empire) für seine besonderen verdienste um die musik-kultur ausgezeichnet und wird in seiner heimat liebevoll als godfather of club culture bezeichnet. das vinyl erscheint als 2lp (180g) + mp3 und beinhaltet einen bonus track (baby washington - think about the good times).

this double album features many of the great brazilian jazz bossa groups involved in the bossa nova explosion of the early 1960s. the amazing hard driving music, played by these groups who backed the famous bossa nova singers of the day - elis regina, jorge ben,joão gilberto - became known as hard bossa or samba jazz.
this album tells the story of this musical journey - an essential key to understanding the link between 1960s bossa nova and the brazilian fusion that emerged in the usa in the 1970s. absolutely killer tunes throughout!

2011 two cd compilation that explores the brazilian jazz groups and artists at the center of the bossa nova explosion of the early 1960s, known as samba jazz or hard bossa. groups such as the sergio mendes trio, tamba trio, quarteto novo, bossa tres, zimbo trio feature alongside the greatest instrumentalists of the era in brazil - dom um romao, raul de souza, baden powell, edson machado, joao donato and others. at the end of the 1960s, many brazilian artists left brazil for the united states leading to an explosion in fusion where brazilian music met jazz and this album includes the work of the most successful of these artists such as airto moreira (who played in miles davis group) and deodato. the album comes with extensive sleevenotes contextualizing the music in its political and social context within both brazil and the united states.
