having started out throwing diy raves in toronto canada, the forth collective became influenced by the citys hunger for self-expression. various artists vol. 2 is the second instalment in a series of compilations that gives toronto artists a chance to realise their ideas on the local and international stage.

jaunt records is celebrating 10 years of active service in fine style with this series of various artist 12inches. the air installment features four beat scientists presenting diverse musings on deep diving techno, kicking off with the hypnotic, cyclical meandering rivers by kaelan. jc meanwhile spices things up with the breakbeat roughness of the jaunt track before basic soul unit lays the smack down with the bruising broken techno of escape velocity. blackhall & bookless finish the ep off with the big room dub-out of spirit, a churning beast of a techno track that still maintains the meditative qualities of the other tracks.

boy we couldnt resist hooking up with one of the youngest and brightest proteges in the west-coast undergound to slap out some crazy remixes of the bsu ep for yall. who is he? why, a made up sound ofcourse, or 2562 for short. steamrolling his way onto the scene in 2007, 2562 has been a mainstay from the get go, with amazing production skills and a keen ear for what rocks the house. in a very short time the 2562 name became almost synonimous for dubstep. but luckily for us theres the made up sound guise to provide us with a more mutant hybrid of slamming jak-step (and remember where you read that first). so take your pick, heres one for the heads and one for the bodies.

for our 10th release, we have compiled a double-vinyl package featuring various artists who hail from our hometown of toronto. with music from veteran and new names in equal measure, the collection is as diverse as the city’s influences. the common thread throughout — and the ethos of our label — is dance music with a future-facing bent.

grego after all’s underthesea is back with an ep by the polish artist eltron, who has been a big supporter of the label’s vision since the beginning, headlining its inaugural party and contributing to its podcast series. ‘le volte’ is his first release for the label, including three original cuts and a remix by the canadian producer basic soul unit. eltron is probably best known for his quirky, playful, driving house sound with roots in disco, as illustrated in his productions here. the narrative of ‘le volte’ starts with ‘la prima’, full of anticipation and discovery as we set out to explore a new oceanic territory. once the clock strikes two, we find ourselves in a sub-aquatic discotheque with ‘un’altra’, dancing to the rhythm of classic chords revisited with a contemporary touch. meanwhile, ‘l’ultima’ represents a voyeuristic peek into the world of seductive mermen. finally, when basic soul unit gets his hands on ‘la prima’, he transforms the track with complex drum patterns and whirlwind pads with a sense of empowerment to conquer the mood of any dancefloor.

australia’s nightime drama welcome steven tang and label associate trinity for a new collaborative ep that comes with two originals and remixes by basic soul unit and daniela la luz.

on his third outing with la vinyl imprint into the woods, producer / selector jimmy maheras fuses the sounds of detroit and los angeles together for a release that continues in the spirit of warehouse inspired techno, house, and electro that germinates from his monthly into the woods party series hosted with mor elian.
the title track, “the odyssey of flight 33,” bubbles up with dubbed chords and stabs that float and wobble over a clap and tom ride fit for 3am. “nightsong” follows the formula in spirit but percolates with punchy drums and stabs. finishing out the release is a full bodied basic soul unit remix of “odyssey” that beefs up and pitches down the chords and drives a heavy rhythm into a wall of sound tinged with hypnotic dystopia.

a tribute to andreas gehm (1972 - 2016), german producer, king of acid and inspiration to many including the artists in this compilation. all proceeds will go towards funding andreas gehm s post-mortem affairs, managed by his best friend, joe kurta. long live the king. vital sales points: tribute album to acid king, andreas gehm, who took his own life in 2016. andreas released one of his last few eps with midnight shift. all artists in this compilation have been influenced by and are deeply saddened by his passing. all proceeds will go towards funding andreas gehms post-mortem affairs, managed by his best friend joe kurta

next up on swiss imprint, caduceus records, is a release veiled in secrecy and hidden behind a mask of obscurity. whilst the producer behind the tracks remains in the backseat, the music sits at the forefront, with only itself to speak for.

bedfords finest d-malice returns to wax after years spent refining his sound via his superb dm recordings digital imprint. indian time will appeal to fans of the uk funky sound who have missed the distinctive groove and vibe of that scene. on the flip basic soul unit takes things up a notch both in terms of bpm and energy, delivering a techno sureplayer which is bound to find its way into mainroom sets this summer.
