by the time basement jaxx released their debut album remedy in 1999 they had already built quite the following with their eps, club nights in london and remixes for the likes of the pet shop boys and roger sanchez. to say that this was one of the most anticipated records of the year would not be an exaggeration. and luckily simon ratcliffe and felix buxton did not disappoint. remedy is a varied album that combined the strengths of the american and the uk house scene, it contains mutated versions of hip hop, ragga, latin, r&b, soul, 2-step and garage that is hard to resist and easy to love. it pushed musical boundaries and proved the next step in house music, basement jaxxs sound defined and dominated the house world of the late 90s and 00s. on remedy you can find songs such as >red alert<, >bingo bango< and >rendez-vu<: together they make an infectious mix that deserves to be a part of your record collection.
