sixth ep on firescope records the new sub label of the legendary b12 records. this release is by b12 ft yonii, uk techno fused with wonderful pure and beautiful vocals. b12 established early 90’s with a multitude of releases appearing on warp records uk, b12 records, soma records, delsin records, firescope records, art , buzz, de:tuned. the ep entitled in vain is the first ep featuring b12 and the wonderful singer songwriter yonii. these are real songs, with real meanings and are the the result of a pure and wonderful collaboration. the tracks tell a story, and with open ears and heart they will deliver the message clearly. “sympathy” a very acoustic sounding drum and percussion arrangement held together with glorious b12 esq pads is the opener here. the vocals elevate this track to another level, with a dangerous equilibrium of vulnerability and distain. “shotgun” straight in with a heavy synth baseline and lyrics. a menacing track featuring a vocal that floats effortlessly on a downtempo b12 vibe. an exposed interplay of rhythmic melodies and dark imagery. “moth” a busy beat and synth driven backdrop provide the platform for yonii to tell her story of love and pain. is it all in vain? why must we gravitate towards the flame that ultimately extinguishes us…. “sympathy (beatz)” & “moth (beatz)” just the beatz of the main tracks :-) finished in glorious white and green splatter vinyl with exclusive full colour artwork by the wonderful catherine prendergast aka cellar doo

already touted as a match made in heaven, b12 aka steven rutter joins cpu with some of his finest output to date. remaining resolutely true to himself, rutter delivers a consistent yet distinct e.p. with his signature melodic, pad-heavy dreamscapes and syncopated beats.

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes

firescope records is the new sub label of the legendary b12 records. a label core to the uk techno scene with roots starting in the early 90’s launched by michael golding and steven rutter. firescope records is here to exist in conjunction with b12 records and with the same ethos, quality music, quality packaging, without compromise and a product that will stand the test of time. firescope will diversify somewhat, not just deep meaningful techno, but also techno with vocals, real songs with real meaning.

b12, one of the uks first wave of pure techno acts, are back again to take you above and beyond with their trademark deep space techno and electro soundscapes. after appearing on the *5 years de:tuned* album with the track *let me free*, b12 return to de:tuned with more transient music for the mind.

delsin present a new ep by b12 aka steve rutter entitled orbiting souls, a name which comes from the fact the veteran artist has recently spent contemplating the loss of a friend and believes we are surrounded by lost souls and spirits. this is b12 s second ep this year following on from the bokide 325 release on soma records and comes years after still acclaimed album like electro-soma and timetourist on warp records back in the 90s. orbiting souls is a somewhat complex journey, a representation of inner bi polar opposites, isolation, sadness, but also acknowledging the great and wonderful things around that swirl and support and energise us. a perfectly formed sound world that is both absorbing and cerebral and comes with a full colour sleeve by boris tellegen.

uk techno founders b12 return! the duos history famously started in the early 90s with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the b12 records umbrella - 12 inch vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on warp. after a hiatus in the late 90s, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12 inches and a 7-part cd anthology. they then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on glaswegian imprint soma. (their seminal warp records album was named electro soma...is there a connection?)

red is the first part of the balkan vinyl colours series: 4 artists per record, 6 releases over six months (red, green, blue, orange, yellow, and violet). each record is limited to just 250 hand numbered & sealed copies. every record comes with a cd sealed in the sleeve containing the vinyl tracks plus extra tracks and remixes. red features 4 tracks of acid house and electro, from mark archer (of altern 8 / nexus 21), global goon (rephlex), b12 (a.r.t / warp), and a collaboration between luke vibert and bristolian hardware/analogue specialist richard wigglesworth. artists appearing later in the series include plaid, marco passarani, cursor miner, debasser, echaskech, hrdvsion, digitonal, ardisson, paul blackford, secondo, posthuman, the doubtful guest, and many more. balkan vinyl is run by joshu doherty (of posthuman / digitonal / agt rave cru, formerly of b12 records, and original founder of seed records).

after last year’s massive “brainbox” album, de:tuned presents the 7th and final installment “unboxed brain” which contains 3 excellent re-interpretations by future/past (aka kirk degiorgio), mark broom and the black dog of selected tracks off the album and an exclusive new track by the future sound of london. yet again, mastered by matt colton (alchemy mastering) and related artwork by designer kevin foakes from openmind (aka strictly kev, dj food from ninja tune). both kirk degiorgio and mark broom rework b12’s “worlds end”. kirk degiorgio, who makes a rare appearance as future/past, increases the energy levels and turns the original into a dance floor bomb. broom’s version heals back to a more electro and breakbeat vibe by adding some deep ballsy and stretched out beats. on the flipside, scanner’s “eros” gets the black dog treatment. the illustrious uk outfit strips down the original into an eerie futuristic soundscape. lastly, the future sound of london brings us an intense piece of sound design: sit back and let the music take control, stay tuned!

the album compilation features 25 tracks of both new and previously unreleased material, offering a widely eclectic mix of ambient, techno, idm, broken beat and drum & bass from a range of well-respected and established artists who ve pushed the musical envelope and have inspired a whole generation of music enthusiasts. the tracks have been mastered by matt colton at alchemy mastering to ensure the highest playback quality.
in addition to the music, de:tuned has worked with designer kevin foakes from openmind (aka strictly kev, dj food from ninja tune) who has translated the diverse musical theme of the album into stunning graphic artwork.
brainbox will be available as a limited edition (300 copies worldwide) numbered box set consisting of 6 heavy weight 180 gr records housed in individually printed inner sleeves. the vinyl box includes a download card and sticker.

de:tuned was founded in 2009 by ruben boons and bert hermans. the pair first organised a series of old school techno parties in antwerp (belgium) before launching the record label in 2012. to celebrate 5 years de:tuned they now turn out a very special 5lp album featuring 21 tracks from some of the most respected names in the game. the album has its roots firmly in early/mid 90s techno and electronica, a style which de:tuned has always presented, and spans some 20 years of electronic music.
