Vinyl only! NY based Undulate Recordings is ready to get serious, and as such launch a new vinyl only sub label that will focus on great house music. For its first release, label bosses Billy Disciple & Al Alvarez bring you a new up and coming talent in the form of James Ellis AKA JpE complete with two remixes from house hero Gerd, including one under his classic house moniker NY Stomp. On the evidence of their first offering, Undulates new vinyl only sub label will fast become house heads favourites.
First track ‘Want From Me’ is Ellis laying out his vision for infectious house, nothing more, nothing less. And he succeeds, with a warm groove and lush chords all wrapping around each other – and you – to conjure a perfect house vibe. Sparring vocals and deft stabs keep you locked to the end and signify the arrival of a talent well worth watching. It’s Undulate bosses Al Alvarez (Deepspell) & Billy Disciple who tackle the first remix and up the energy levels somewhat with more glistening claps and more purposeful synth stabs. Their remix is more angular and full of echo, suggesting it might be suited best to those darker back room sessions. Rotterdam legend Gerd takes two remixes on the B-side, first with his New York indebted moniker NY Stomp – suitably the remix bangs and kicks like a mule, with rawness permeating the whole thing and plenty of bouncy organ stabs bringing the funk. Finally, Gerd’s tool remix features more signature analogue sharpness with thick ambiance backing chattery claps and filtered male and female vox that inject plenty of humanness into the track.
