Welcoming Johannes Heil for the first time to Glückskind Schallplatten, the ‘G.O.D’ EP features three parts with equal
charisma and avant-garde vibes.

German artist Johannes Heil began his lengthy and reputable career in the early nineties. Producing and releasing his initial
acid techno cuts on influential labels such as i220, U-turn and predominantly Kanzleramt throughout the decade, his
driving grooves and rich techno dominance propelled him to recognizable stature, setting him up as a talent known for
taste-making and innovative sounds. Creating a huge discography and clocking up shows and tours worldwide over the
years that followed, Johannes’s work has been snapped up by imprints such as Metatrone, Klang Electronics and Cocoon.
An artist who stands for sheer quality regardless of the many pockets and corners he has touched within electronic music,
his talent spans our musical scales like no other.
Opening with a melodic synth and tight wooden hats drowned in reverb, “G.O.D Part 1” reeks immediately of rich textures
and savvy rhythmic structure. Shakers are rapid, chords perfectly aligned and the swelling house groove understated and
sophisticated. As it rolls through a minefield of deep percussive beats and balmy, soothing synths, there is something
immediately classic about “G.O.D Part 1”. Lying cleverly between spaces the chord structure doubles, making way for
emotive staccato strings, their fierce melody playing alongside rapid shakers and sensual vocal sighs from the distance. Part
1 is smug, moist and knowingly timeless.
As we turn to the B-side of the EP, “G.O.D. Part 2” bellows straight into a punchy synth, rat-a-tat-tat hi’s and crunchy hats.
Dancing over a hissing bed and expertly constructed lower end, Part 2 welcomes its two star players one by one to take the
stage. Firstly, the synth; busting out a simple three stab sequence, its naivety is priceless, unfussy and beautifully warm.
The second star of Part 2 is the piano, playing another game all together; shimmering, thumping, stumbling and imperfect,
the emotive piano keys evolve “G.O.D” into a truly encapsulating and unique house track.
Lastly, “G.O.D Part 3” closes the EP with a fresh and contrasting sound to its predecessors. Tight, rapid and determined
percussion take the lead, leaving us up-beat and firmly on the dance floor. As muffled bass lines swell and retract, their
edges softened and drowning in warm tones of light, tambourines keep the pace and electronic bleeps whirl and twist in
the background. Cool, calm and collected against the urgency of the beats, Part 3 concludes the already evident fact about
Johannes Heil’s work; quality, diversity and elegance will always prevail...The ‘G.O.D’ EP has them all
