A collection of rare and very sought-after underground British disco, funk and soul tracks avoiding the obvious hits that have been on a million cdÆs already. Many of these tracks never went beyond a very small local release but have since become very collectable - buying this lot would set you back somewhere in the four figures. Back Street Brit Funk is the latest compilation from Dave Lee aka Joey Negro released on the Z Records label. The double disc album features highly collectable tracks from the late 70s through to the mid-80s with sleeve notes from soul weekender veteran Mark Webster.
“I thought I had it all when it came to Brit Funk and beyond but then again I hadn't been round Joey Negros had I!!! A crucial selection from a world that inspired a whole generation of Dj’s and bands.” – Gilles Peterson
Brit Funk tells the story of the underground scene in the UK when punk and disco were giving way to a new blend of jazz, soul and funk, heavily influenced by the American big hitters of the day but re-worked by the UK pioneers for the British dance floors.
Brit Funk follows the highly successful, must have albums previously compiled by Joey Negro: Soul of Disco Vol.1 & 2, Destination Boogie and Locked In The Vinyl Cellar.
This vinyl sampler is a DJ selection from the album and all tracks have been re-mastered to an audiophile standard and now sound better than ever before.
