The Call (original)

It seems that dance music is an everlasting quest for new and fresh hybrids. Dimitri Batsis aka
Dans Mon Salon, introduces a work which will be loved by music enthusiasts and dj’s alike
on the upcoming Amplify label. His attempt to ‘renovate’ all rave feelings of the early 90’s
is obvious while keeping it fresh and contemporary. The initial track ‘The Call’ is a hymn to
British oldschool intellectual techno. Asymmetric rapping lines lead to vocal samples craving for
salvation. Bouncy 4/4 rhythmic beats drag a cut up melody line filling up the loop. Maybe this
melody rings a bell, something, tension builds up. Half way through a classic bleep melody line
enters and the audio spectrum fills up with electronic nostalgia circa 90-92. Hi hats, rides and
pad filters open. Dans Mon Salon is drowned into a pool of euphoria.

The Call (instrumental)

This reminiscence dominates the instrumental version of ‘The Call’ as well, as the track is
shaped into a danceable gem. The hi hat never stops playing, as if the drum machine was left
playing in preset mode. Elements of the pads from the original version prepare the atmosphere
for a bended high pitched groovy tone that reminds of LFO’s anthemic ‘lfo’. The intervention
that follows brings to mind Orbital’s classic ‘Midnight’. D.M.S introduces the pad theme from
the original version of ‘The Call’ skilfully. The mood builds up with synths groaning along with
the sub bass line. Majestic. Surely this sounds like a plan: An unstoppable engine that steams
with energy and feeling.

The Call (Danalogue Remix)

The remix by ‘fellow traveller’ and synth freak Daniel Aarons does justice to the original in
the best and most catchy way possible. This is phuture garage. The surprise comes in when the
atmospheric pads begin to open wide and a mysterious acid melody in the bass evolves. A drum
loop that reminds the fill from the original, leads to a dreamy pad sequence. Like a virtuoso of
emotions, neo rave master Danalogue creates an idyllic, almost hypnotic groove which carries
on until the end. This track rejects mediocre beats, lame bass lines and boring melodies. It has an
originality in the groove, rawness of style and depth of expression.
