dusty donuts is hitting from all angles at the moment. on this limited release we see uk producer savant sam krats team up with one of new jersey s finest, one half of the artifacts, el da sensei. el has got flow for days over the quirky, stand up bass driven track by krats. this is boom bap in it s purest form. on the flip side, jim sharp takes the reigns on production and hits the mark with a native tongues-eque string laden beat. jim teams up with uk emcee gee bag to drop a verse on the remix, making this a true transatlantic collaboration. with flavours for the basement and the bbq, this is another dusty donuts sure shot.

following the u.s. army’s liberation of munich in may 1945, the world’s first amerikahaus was inaugurated there with a library, a magazine reading room, a children’s library, a record and lm department, and lecture and seminar rooms, together with a concert hall and exhibition space. up to 80.000 people a month utilized the offerings of amerikahaus during its early years. beginning in 1953, the united states information agency (usia), an institution founded as an instrument of the cold war, began to finance amerikahaus. in addition to representing the u.s., its principal task in west germany was to democratize and denazify the postwar population. after the beginning of the cold war, many of these re-educative measures also served as propaganda in a programmatic linking of democratic and economic principles meant to strengthen transatlantic relations against the communist bloc. in 1997, the u.s. government concluded its work at amerikahaus in munich and shipped almost all its items back to the states. however, 1.630 long-playing vinyl records from the library were left behind in cardboard boxes in the basement. when michaela melián looked through this forgotten collection, one of the first things she came across was don gillis’ 1940 tone poem »portrait of a frontier town«, whose second movement is entitled »where the west begins«. don gillis, a composer and radio producer, used the musical styles and genres of that decade to create an explicitly american program music. michaela melián’s »music from a frontier town« is fueled by the diverse sonic material of this extensive record collection once considered as an instrument of cultural education. this record has been produced in addition to melián’s twenty-four hour performative music installation »music from a frontier town« in the garage of what is now the bavarian center for transatlantic relations at karolinenplatz, munich (4-5 may 2018).

breaking his silence after twenty years, sebastian snoeck a.k.a sebastian s. will be the second member of belgian collective “bwp experiments” to release on the basic moves imprint. he has handed over two previously unpublished tracks made under the moniker caustic 14. after listening to “personal space invader” in 1997, carl craig asked sebastian s. to produce new material for his own label, planet e. “message in a box” and “rising star” were therefore made as a response to this request. however, due to a political transatlantic rift the tracks never saw the light of day and have since been stored on dat tapes, hidden away from the general public’s ears. if i had to describe sebastian’s output, i’d say it is most importantly energetic, positive, and groovy. it bears the mark of a certain nostalgia, shying away from the blind celebration of both futurism and experimentation in order to reach intemporality. this attempt to exist outside of time gives his productions a certain character and in my opinion his music has come to embody something i like to call “space opera techno”. sebastian s has succeeded where many before him have failed: by avoiding copycat tactics and simplified approaches to production he managed to create a singular identity. the tracks are recognisable after the first few seconds – and that’s what makes his work so unique!

amsterdam based artist nthng continues to have a busy year. following up an album on lobster theremin and ep on transatlantic, he now lands on delsin with three tracks that touch on driving dub-techno and dreamy ambient. oralage opens with upbeat drum programming and gliding hits that make for a smooth flowing groove. distant pads add some spacey atmospheres and the production is effortlessly warm and driving. a souls search takes time out to drift in the cosmos, with waves of muted euphoria washing over you as you sink into clouds of ambient bliss. lastly, turn to gaia is a dubbed out techno roller, with long legged drums looping down low, reverberating chords adding weight and distant bell sounds charting the whole thing in a harmonic glow. it rounds out a super smooth and seductive ep.

in a new transatlantic partnership, uk label secret reels and washington, dc imprint better listen records have teamed up for a run of collaborative records. the joint brand, secret listen, combines the labels in sound as well as in name. imagine the lush, pensive and moody deep house tones of secret reels joining with the sample-heavy disco soul leanings of blr. secret listen vol. 1 takes two artists each from both rosters for the first amalgamation. the -secret side- hosting english producers harry wolfman and chocky, while the listen side invites sune and vitamin d of high hat appreciation society and the newly founded honey butter records to the affair. it s a v/a release with a variety of offerings and flavours. wolfmans floozy sits first in the record as a bright and whimsical flute-led morsel, while chockys inner disco is a cerebral, loopy cut. on the flip, sune provides some exquisite rhodes action in his groovy midtempo effort, glidin, and his swedish compatriot closes out the affair with the bittersweet lately.

berlin based pardon moi, consisting of james brook and thomas freudenthal, makes music that would fit perfect as a soundtrack for a ride in a ferrari gto convertible, or on a transatlantic flight on a concorde. unfortunately, vintage ferraris are ridiculously expensive and concords are taken out of flight but still the music creates an air of luxury and decadence for you to fill your lungs and air with. this 7inch release on hoga nord rekords is the first on the label but the duo have released material on nein records and vocoder electro.

the third cut on kalahari oyster cult comes from erell ranson, a producer who combines the subtleties and depths of uk electronics with the groove of the us. hand in hand ep is a transatlantic marriage of machine music. warm sounds abound, lush pads and textured tones accompanied by pulsing toms and clean claps. melodies are flexible, bending and giving as moods change and harmonies unfold in effortless shifts. let ranson take you, hand in hand, to hear the beauty of the machine.

5 years knuggles recordings! *rising 2016* is deep and dubby balearic tech house. netto houz sampled their classic ladomat 2000 track *rising* to produce two versions of a floating and swirling monster, a late transatlantic descendant of electronic krautrock as well as tracky chicago house. the latter becomes evident when dj kriton reworks the drum parts in his jackin * rising beats*. get two copies of this 10th release on knuggles recordings and mix them from breaking dawn to bright morning sunlight!

californiabased producer damon bell could not find a more suitable home for his new 12inch than croatian label burek. its his first one since blues for the libyan lp released in 2015. for deepblak, and it sounds as if the time off was well spent. two words that perfectly describe this record are rich and colourful, and the description is equally applicable to all three cuts. stand by me is a synthheavy piece built around the interplay between tracks rougher sounds and big lush pads. on the flipside, life is slightly faster and more direct, with a wonderful guitar part that circles around the main theme throughout the most of the track. similarly mannered, but slightly more intense transatlantic journey? we been here! is the last piece and features an infectious groove with lead synth piercing through layers of delicate arpeggios playing in the background. all in all, it feels good to have damon in the team. we hope youll enjoy this record

distant hawaii kicks into gear for the second half of 2016 with our first transatlantic artist joining in the shape of immense production and dj talent, garrett david.
already a prominent figure in the windy city scene via his residency at smart bar and working as a&r and in-house buyer at gramaphone records, garrett’s talents extend even further, right back to the lab, to the deep studio from whence all music grows.
his chicago-tinged-with-detroit blend of clean, yet warm and occasionally raw bumpin’ house tracks showcase a kaleidoscope of grooves backed by heavy-seated drum programming and glacial, almost-interspatial padwork.

almost exactly three years after nr&, a project uniting &me’s and rampa’s production with the voice of new york disco-house-siren nomi, dropped their debut ep, we finally can announce a new chapter in this ongoing transatlantic menage. this very “spoken for” ep is comprised of two new tracks, that again fuse songwriting with floor-demands and showcase the same crackling and pulse quickening passion that instantly has become nr&’s trademark. so here’s the evidence – a long distance relationship is not necessarily doomed to get boring after a while. “taste like” on a might be conceived as the club-affair of those two new joints. a tune indulging in self-control, extending the pre- eruptive moment of excitement to track length. there is nomi’s unmistakeable sexed up oration, flanked by an affirmative thunderstorm of claps, then a bass heavy bridge, overflowing into a noise brushed finale. altogether a tasty flavour carrier for an effective floor heating. “spoken for” is not only the title track, but also the hymn coming out of the flipside ambush. there is no kick necessary to underpin what nomi’s charismatic croon is laying down. therefore a wise choice to let the arrangement of interspersed field recordings, percussive details and piano- and synth-decoration exercise in unobtrusiveness. safe to say, this tune will refine many future peaktimes anyway.

the second release from spazio records is a transatlantic affair. made by the dynamic duo zopelar from sao paulo in brazil and sumorai from the southern part of sweden. the tracks are the fruits from jams made behind hotel walls in tokyo. deep, raw and sticky-icky.
