kelli hand has long been at the front of detroit house and techno as a dj and as a producer, in the past she has collaborated and released music with claude young, robert hood, mike banks and many more and her own acacia records label has released a long string of essential 12s since its 1990 inception. tools vol.1 was released in 2002 and features 4 solid cuts from kelli who is in full-on house mode. this ep is definitely for the djs, with each track being a real joy to blend in and out of the mix, you might even need 2 copies of this one

hot on the heels of the well received dirty channels vs danny russell watchin out/ frazelle today is the day (linkwood edit), we bring you more twelve inch heat. this time in the shape of an unreleased nugget from funk and soul legend, bobby boyd, the founding member and lead singer of bobby boyds congress - who metamorphosed into the lafayette afro rock band, after bobbys departure in 1971. on the a-side, producer and engineer extraordinaire bob blank - whos worked closely with the likes of arthur russell, taana gardner,sun ra, larry levan and kid creole - turns out a mix that hits the sweet spot between boogie and proto-house with a hint of latin freestyle. whilst the flip sees darting synths and swirling pads layered over a tight machine groove, as bobby reminds us of the simply joy that dancing can bring.

black plastic magic from secret circuit, roza terenzi, tmo, furious frank, dj haus and phran, brought to you by pelvis. the second edition in a series, this incarnation brings together rhythm trax and freaked out jams to juice your blends. pelvis are a multifaceted leisure system celebrating dance, music, film and spatial design through their parties, clothing, record label and other projects. coital embellishers, tailors of state, gland enhancers, dance party linux a black economy enterprise, forever slippery and uncatchable.

some might say jordan fields is one of the most criminally underappreciated figures to rise out of chicago in the late 90s, not for people who know what s what though. after a career spanning more than 20 years he has established himself as one of the key figures of the underground. coming out of where everything started, chicago, jordan released records on a handful of key labels like catalyst, track mode, som underground, mood groove, maffia. he did not stop there and today he is still releasing bangers having never lost that magic touch that has kept him firmly grounded on the purest form of the underground, and that, after more than 20 years is pretty much unheard of. when we first contacted jordan we wanted to go back to where it all started, we wanted to be transported to late 90s chicago, to a time where it was all about the dance floor, when tracks meant something more than songs, when purely club-oriented music was the purest form of the underground. to be honest we were not expecting to get exactly what we wanted straight away, he immediately sent us a collection of tools straight out of dat tapes he had, going all the way back to the 90s and early 2000s, so yeah to say that we are excited with this release would be a huge understatement. this is a collection of tools meant for the dancefloor, not reminiscent of some gone by era, these are the real deal, made by a true master, 20 years ago, for the future.

for the a side, the young italian producer provides two heaters with acid lines tax-experts previously thought not possible. on the flip, strictly business with versatile tools designed for a bullish friday night after a long day of aggressive downsizing. buy low, sell high.

newcastle born, melbourne-based producer cooper bowman steps out as roman nails with his first 12” for beat concern. following tapes on where to now? (uk), night people (us) + rhythm works (au), roman nails has maintained a steady flow of experimental techno over the last few years. utilising a minimal, cv-triggered hardware set-up and from a perspective rooted in improvisation, rn is a unique beast. the tongue-in-cheek titled, all hardware no tools, is his most concise and well-considered release to date, offering noirish synth tones, slinking basslines and captivating interplay between a 707 and 727. 300 copies.

hot on the heels of mays ambivert tools volume one lone aka matt cutler delivers the second instalment of breezy atmospheric house, stacked with floor ready trax, inspired by his red hot magic wire imprint. first up is the tropical percussion and telescoping arpeggios of a minds eye melody, displaying cutlers talent for a nagging melody it comes on like tangerine dream remixed by 808 state pulsating drums, hymnal chords and gooey sub bass. looking glass calls to mind a mood ii swing dub - truncated stabs and jacking rhythms overlaid with shimmering resampled piano chords that give way to a slashing fm riff that contrasts sweetly. in the b2 slot cutler unfurls a hushed, 6 minute balearic reprise of the a minds eye melody, heartstopping emulator ii chords and harp glissandi wash over a wistful flute figure pedal to sweetly memorable effect. ambivert tools finds cutler a true master, at the top of his game - taking all he’s learned over his many years of beat exploration and condensing it down into rugged house stacked full of nagging melody / harmony that feels fresh and vital to 21st dance floors.

the first in a series from pelvis records, dj tools volume 1 features an all-australian lineup of artists across 6 tracks. varying in tempo and moods, this first round comes courtesy of sam weston, mall grab, chunyin, body corp, jamie blanco and pelvis. from flat out percussion jams to four-to-the-floor acid, these are tracks to get you out of tight spots (or take you deeper into them).

with previous releases on labels such as chronocircle and tom trago’s voyage direct, magnesii delivers a playful blend of house, electro and tropicana for raw tools. the title track, fata oasa is a melodic, lo-fi delight, full of exotic flavours, whilst building ultrabot shifts to a different spectrum of sounds, with chunky basslines and heart-warming pads. on the flip side, euphoric 660, is a haunting house jam with low-pitched vocal samples and sharp percussions. the b-side gets a special 909-led muscle boost by antenna, known for his dark, but emotional sound, which has been embraced by labels such as pinkman, clone and beats in space.
