after last year s stellar ep on l.i.e.s. records, veteran, brooklyn-based producer and dj jake reif (savage hymn, upsetting keys) continues to make waves with his device control brand. the first side of the new ep2 begins with silhouettes: a robotic, techno-funk work out with a nasty kick drum, swirling modular sounds and a timothy leary inspired vocoded vocal. an instrumental version has been included for selectors who prefer tracks to songs. on the flip, joystuck continues the aural assault with a slightly more stripped-back approach. hard-hitting metallic percussion and screaming, alien-esque synth bleeps are all that s necessary here to decimate a dance-floor. finally, divisive rounds out the ep with a stomping vengeance, its jacking claps and dissonant harmonics have been carefully designed to deliver a sonic gut-punch, taking no prisoners when played on a club system

swedish artist ubx127 is back on figure with what might just be his most accomplished release to date. spanning an arc cross four diverse tracks, the story told is abstract yet full of imagination. gently pulsating crystalline opener woid carefully sets a vast open scene, covered in gushes of interplanetary winds. first contact is made on a2, its electro-esque drive and spiky synths hinting at its alien origins. a taste of their mighty technology is given on watch out below, booming with a propulsive punch and constantly swelling in intensity. relief comes in form of singularity, a beautiful, long-winding closer, on which soothing arps effortlessly outweigh their beaty counterparts. having already proven his mastery of the machines with three stellar eps for the label last year, this record further showcases ubx127s special talent of crafting tunes that are as ripe with drama as they are ready for the floor.

following on from his stellar record store day 2017 double-pack, dimitri is back with another clutch of indispensable disco edits from his impressive archive for the legendary salsoul label. any self-respecting dj or disco-lover will be brimming over with excitement upon looking at this impressive selection of tracks, all respectfully and lovingly tweaked by disco-dim. salsoul orchestra s ooh i love it (love break) kicks things off, a true blue classic, just gently touched in all the right places and extended in the best possible way. following up is skyy s total anthem first time around , a classic garage groove and dimitri s version is near perfect, again, re-touched by someone who truly understands what disco all about! essential stuff. on the flipside the jammers - be mine tonight , is another massive garage smasher, here dimitri almost edges shep pettibone s og mix into the boogie stratosphere, just incredible! it makes perfect sense that this amazing double-pack should finish on one of dimitri s most sought after edits - love committee s just as long as i got you , an epic slab of soulful, almost dark, disco. absolutely huge

after one year of hiatus ritual process is back with a brand new opus. côme the other half of the label first appeared in 2011, thriving on the musical radicalism and avantgarde of the electronic and industrial scenes of the 80/90’s. kerri lebon, the owner of discipline is actively involved in the san francisco s musical scene. she has mixed the -issue no five- cd for jealous god and recently produced a remix on los angeles based label stellar remnant. our third ep -years of decline- opens with -between generation-, an epic trippy track followed by the punchy noisy -expel the demon-. the b side will take you to a shadowy world with the original version of -fear- followed by kerri lebon’s astonishing remix. the record will come with an insert and will be limited to 300 copies.

lunar disko presents... time marches on with two various artist eps to celebrate the 20th release on lunar disko records. eight tracks encompassing the modus operandi of the label since the beginnings... part 2 features another selection of lunar disko favourites, with the return of dj overdose and raiders of the lost arp, while two of ireland s finest in tr one and automatic tasty complete this stellar line-up. ..and time...is still marching on...

it’s a match made in heaven, techno veteran dino sabatini meets up and coming talent luigi tozzi, who over the last couple of years has delivered stellar eps for the likes of hypnus records, dynamic reflection, mental modern, and sabatini’s own outis music. anyone familiar with the two will know they share an aptitude for adventurous and evolving techno. this is crystallised in this collaboration, which doesn’t take the easy path of creating straightforward club tracks. instead, the three tracks on this release explore the subtler sides of the two producers. that’s not to say this isn’t club music - it is - but they have a lot more to offer than pure functionality. the ep opens with manticora. this eight-minute experience takes the listener through winding claustrophobia as ringing feedback pulses across the stereo field and cavernous rhythms dance about, hard to quite grab. these rhythms build to a point to which they solidify and fall into place, a point at which the track gains a feeling of propulsion, alongside shifting and emotive reverberations and resonances. next up is celeno, a track that slowly unravels under a backing of shuffling hats and a rolling kick drum. twinkling synths swirl around before giving way to a rhythmic and compelling melody. celeno’s musical themes continue into the third and final track, aello, which eases you in with softer drums while a haunting drone builds up. over this, ghostly arpeggios develop alongside weightier drums that carry the track through until the end, leaving just enough time for the drone to ring out and provide a fitting end to the ep.

repress 2017 ! uk-born producer luke standing aka blue hour has made a considerable impact since his emergence in 2013. a move from bristol to berlin precipitated a run of stellar self-released eps that immediately won him an ardent following among techno s most revered djs for a sound that offered a fresh take on classic techno and electronica, while always maintaining a supreme dancefloor functionality. among those fans was function, who included an exclusive track from standing in his berghain 07 mix and part i of its accompanying 12-inches. now standing s self-titled outlet launches a new remix series, calling on some of those aforementioned fans to offer their own takes on a trio of the standout tracks from his label s first five releases. ostgut resident answer code request applies the driving hybrid techno-bass approach that has made him one of berghain s brightest stars to blue hour 002 title cut axis motive, paris-based tresor resident marcelus offers an ethereal take that focuses on blue hour 003 s reference 97 s more hypnotic elements, and ostgut ton s steffi is perfectly matched to the third ep s moments, employing her signature sound that similarly offers a timeless anthemic quality to the original...

originally founded by kisk back in 2009 apparel music set out to offer something truly singular in focusing their musical output predominately on jazz whilst venturing into its integration across the landscape of electronic music at the time.with a zealous release schedule, they racked up a healthy collection of eps between 2010-2015 from artists such as delano smith, scsi-9, sarp yilmaz and the label owner himself amongst many others. now after a year-long hiatus, the label makes a return with a slick 4-track va that fans both old and new will relish. strictly limited to a pressing of 200 on 180 grams of wax, their re-launch brings with it a jazz-suffused 4-track record featuring voyeur, ivano tetelepta & eugeÌne latumeten, kisk and kerem akdag. voyeurs swinging for theo kicks things off with organic, brushed drums and a walking bass line set off to a tight, swaying rhythm. glassy rhodes keys bleed into the mix ahead of piano stabs and 909 hats that propel progress when combined with a thickened low-end. ivano tetelepta & eugeine latumeten follow up with je suis reconnaissant a bass-heavy groove that lays soulful vocal samples over filtered piano chords and loose-limbed hat patterns. kisks just u then drives a crackly drum loop through distant, flexing synth tones. arresting vocal samples then take the foreground in a rich, smokey mix before istanbuls kerem akdags closes up the package. akin to the styles of producers such as henry wu and max graef, akdags friend melds playful drum patterns with thick chord stabs and smooth vocal lines that wrap up a stellar return for apparel music.

a key label on the berlin scene since the 1990s, muller records—famed for a deep and chunky club sound from artists like dave dk, claude young and the hacker—is back with a new ep from beroshima feat rummy sharma with remixes from namito and pascal hetzel. beroshima, of course, is the production work of label frank muller sometimes accompanied by ethereal electronic music specialist ulrich schnauss. after more than twenty years together they have amassed a fine body of work that includes five albums and more than a hundred eps! always mixing up acid, techno and tribal into something fresh, the beroshima sound has its own unique signature.... for this latest single muller steps up solo to produce another gem. the stellar delhibelly is a slick and muscular cut that bubbles away on a bed of warming bass....

behind the next release on meant records are italian duo boot & tax, a relatively new pairing made up of claudio brioschi and cristiancroce. here they serve up three great originals baced with a stellar remix from alien alien. before now, boot & tax have released two extremely well received eps on jd twitchs optimo trax and have also recently had their music licensed to erol alkans fabric live 77, so the pair are really on the up.

die yippiee-vögel aus hannover haben für ihre neue ep ihre fühler jedenfalls weit ausgestreckt und bis ins ferne all gefunkt, um letztendlich eine nachricht aus ihrer eigenen stadt zu bekommen.der hannoveraner sebi mono aka bass tikal, der eigentlich eher fans von dnb und dubstep bekannt ist, hatte mit seinem partner aus bristol mehrere neue raketen gebaut und konnte seine langjährigen freunde sofort von ihrer mission begeistern. euphorisiert vom neuentdeckten machte sich mono und die vögel sofort an die arbeit. kurz vor dem start der ersten zweiwöchigen 12-mission und der folgenden zusätzlichen digitalen streifzüge freut sich das gesamte team euch nun ihren hoffnungsträger vorzustellen:da eine schallplatte ohne qualitätsverluste nur eine bestimmte track-länge zulässt, fanden sich am ende exakt drei tracks, die nun den dunklen weg der macht bestreiten. auf der a-seite findet sich das mehr als 10-minütiges debüt der beiden neuen vögel. hipster und youtube-kritiker würden dieses stück wohl als episch beschreiben. das yippiee-team fand aber, dass der titel stellar völlig ausreicht und ihren griff zu den sternen gut genug beschreibt. bei den tracks auf der b-seite handelt es sich hingegen um sehr an der bassline orientierte tracks, die auch durch die unvoreingenomme und unkonventionelle herangehensweise der beiden dnb-produzenten ihre gewisse würze erhält. neben durchaus bekannten grooves zeichnet besonders der feinfühlige einsatz von flächigen sounds im zusammenspiel mit prägnanten, aber auch maßvollen vocals diese ep aus.
