after “star alliance”’s initial release as a limited six tape-box set, it was apparent that there was a need for a reissue, which now comes in the form of this remastered double lp set with a selection of the best work and even a few new tracks added. the story is the same but the narrative has been sharpened.

peter kadergard has been active in the helsingborg (sweden) electronic music scene since the early 1990 s. he was involved in various collaborations during the 90 s and appeared on a few cassette releases under the names grodans fodelsedag, marchentraum and mannix system. peter released his first rittowski record on the borft sub label djuring phonogram in 2004. apart from this electro project peter is a member of the bands goz mongo alliance and inyurmania, who has made a few releases on the ufo mongo, pripuzzi and skiboy record labels. this is new electro!

cult duo rework are next up on my favorite robot with a five track ep that shows off their brilliantly inventive house and tech style. the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler deal in left of centre and freaky house with a mischievous afterparty slant. they have been active for more than a decade now and have credits on great labels like visionquest, items & things, meant and the institution that is playhouse. the brilliantly sleazy “talk it off” opens things up with popping drums, playful lyrics and a steely sound that is designed for wonky basement parties. “valencia” goes deeper with warm drums and synths surging along next to an elastic groove that is propped up by energetic and incendiary chord stabs. it’s a subtle but high impact track that will raise the energy levels on any floor. “think about you” has vocals coated in echo and delay and trippy synths that are lively and off kilter. it makes for a track that is brilliantly loose and undulating and cannot fail to get under your skin. final track “attractive” heads in a much more techno direction with surging drums and hypnotic slithering synths that burrow deep into your brain and seep into the night. it is trance inducing for sure, and shows another side to this accomplished outfit. this is a versatile ep stuffed with killer cuts for many different moments in the night, and each is as standout as the next.

outstanding three track ep from the archives of caliban (a side project of london musician milton myrie a session guitar player who worked with cult uk buddhist afro and reggae band ozo as well as on the much sought after steel and skin afro punk reggae 12inch). talk about bang for ye buck. 1 side crucial oddball digital cuts, b side sounds like a uk jazz funk classic. gold print sleeve. big tip!

south london ordnance returns to aery metals with a quartet of rolling club cuts. the british artist ties up italo and industrial references with trademark steely percussion and warping atmospherics. exercises in razor edged tool techno trade blows with more submerged, rhythmic recordings and finnish outsiders femme en fourrure return to the label for a new collaboration.

to kick-start the fina campaign we literally hunted high and low to find an artist and sound that we felt would represent us and give a statement of intent. what we didnt expect was for this search to take us south of the equator and into to the deep southern hemisphere. this is not the first place that you would expect to hear warm, deep underground house but this is exactly what you get with the melbourne based mic newman. and thinking about it, it doesnt get warmer or deeper than melbourne does it? mic is a young producer who we believe is destined for greatness. at the age of 29, hes already had a string of underground smashes on labels such as murmur, tsuba, dirt crew, freerange, and now for fina records. the intriguingly named live east, die young ep (mic riffing on his time spent living in london) sees what mic doing what he does best and demonstrates why his future is so bright. on die young, the tougher a-side, mic keeps the beats solid, and the groove tight and hypnotic, while the smooth chord stabs get right under your skin. prolonged foot tapping ensues. on the flip side, live east, mic takes it a little deeper with ever so subtle disco touches. the vocal sample asks what your name is and to take off your jacket as if to welcome you to a very messy after hours on this mcde-esque low-slung house groove. on remix duty, the on-form jacques renault and marcos cabral aka runaway, lift the track out of the south hemisphere and take it in a north easterly direction all the way to the caribbean – adding plenty of steel drums and pads on their interpretation of live east

south terminus gets you warmed up with a shuffle rhythm but a mean frizzling acidic synth line like a steel whip and a nervously knocking percussive sounds punch the rhythm more and more into a straighter pattern - when the tune finally falls into a 4/4 beat after the break and the acid line completely bubbles over its pure mayhem. 'clubbanger' on the b-side gets underneath your skin more subtely: headbangin tech-boogie with suspensefull, slightly claustrophobic string backings and robotic voice snippets. label head clement opts in his remix for a punk-funk slant with cool dangling bassline and snotty rhyhtm guitar wrapped up in foggy synth sounds
