a little over six years ago, let s play house because, in earnest, with a 12-inch called indoor pool. fittingly, the track it revolved around was by runaway, the duo comprised of marcos cabral and jacques renault, and featured remixes by some tight friends of the imprint, beautiful swimmers, slow hands, and soft rocks. we thought it d be fun to celebrate our birthday for once, but not with something too obvious (e.g. a compilation) or too involved (e.g. a warehouse party blowout). what we came up with is this, a 10-inch that reflects a little of the past into the present. appropriately, it includes edits by two of the artists on that debut ep. runaway s is a dusted-off and remixed secret weapon from the act s early days while soft rock s is classic soft rocks, albeit from a more current vintage (it was recorded this year). both absolutely rock. a little twisted, a little tilted, a little tipsy, but, as always, tight and tidy. funny how, since 2009, everything has changed and nothing has changed at all for this label of ours.

2019 repress the elusive and enigmatic brazilian producer ‘coastdream’ resurfaces on x-kalay with his third ep, and arguably best work to date. coastdream has garnered something of a cult following throughout the burgeoning underground music community, his instantly recognisable brand of woozy 5am power house and diy club tracks form a signature sound few can come close to.
classic piano stabs, dreamy pads, punchy drums and some real basement grooves all feature prominently across the four tracks in play here. proper capri-sun business this one...

late last year, we modestly celebrated the sixth anniversary of lph records by releasing a 10-inch that reconnected us with our very first ep by bringing back two of the artists who contributed to it, runaway and soft rocks. now, as a sort of companion to that, we have lph___vi , a 7-inch that gives shine to a couple other names that have been spotted on lph party flyers of old and back catalog credits, jacques renault and daniel t. both these are fun, flavorful little disco nugs united by funky bass guitar fretwork and plenty of sassy woodblock, though jacques leans towards the goofy and daffy, whereas daniels brings some synth-pop seriousness into the frame. as befits the format, both hover around four minutes in length.

possession records proudly present the new album by soft riot, entitled -the outsider in the mirrors-. soft riot is the stylised musical alter-ego of jjd, canadian by birth and an ex-resident of london and sheffield, now based in glasgow (so not unfamiliar with sites of post-industrial decay!). with over twenty years of playing in various post-punk and synth-punk bands, he has been crafting the sound of soft riot since the early turn of the decade, releasing a slew of albums across a multitude of labels and touring obsessively around europe and beyond. with -the outsider in the mirrors-, his sixth full-length, he has found a new home for his sound on possession records, a fledgling glasgow imprint founded by jjd, claudia nova (aka hausfrau) and andy brown (ubre blanca). their aim is to bring together their pool of musical talents and provide a more permanent home for their future creative endeavours, whether it be music, video or otherwise and to experiment with what it is to be a -label- in the ever evolving 21st century. future projects and releases will see them getting a select group of their peers and friends involved in possession s focused vision, locally or from further afield.

the passport to paradise gang are in fine form as they serve up four more tripped-out disco edits for the globally-minded savant. we take sail with the excellent thru wit waitin, a beefed-up guitar chugger reminiscent of 70s aor in its steady percussive work and misty sax solo. it s the guitar line that really shines here, lifting the tune into funk transcendence in the bridge. anybody out there reaches out to the disco trippers with its northern italian cosmic kitsch feel: starry-eyed synth pads float above reverb-soaked guitar musings and playful french vocal samples. a particular highlight. on the flip, ptp take things south with a soulful west african shuffler guaranteed to elicit some arresting footwork. the ep leaves us with resounding vibrations from the far east: jp wave explores ethereal planes, building up a dense rhythmic fabric punctuated by bass stabs and ornamental chimes. this is a clever bunch of edits for the more discerning selectors and enthusiasts out there- act fast.

rivulet records are continuing their release just where the compilation at the beginning of the year left us. again bringing 4 artists together on one release shifting between dusty, mellow house and some how twisted techno. peonies from russia, who has been releasing tapes on his own label „summer night“ since 1 year, sets the mood for the record with his track „soft light“ which sounds almost like a dim, fading memory of a club night full of classy house records. the rework by ital, the head behind „lovers rock“ from new york, builds up the mood in a complete different, driving and technoid atmosphere. the b-side is the first cooperation between two very old friends, berni from trier and jonas palzer from berlin, both part of portray records. their tracks are playing with the same kind of hauntology as the a—side, building up a sound that is familiar and distant in the same way - referring to old records by boards of canada as well as to the contemporary sound of „house“ at its best meaning.

seth troxler follows up a slew of cross-genre releases across his soft touch and tuskegee labels with another offering on his no-nonsense imprint play it say it. designed to bring road-tested, high-grade club material to the fore play it say it has seen the likes of clarian, sharam and steve lawler build its catalogue and now, next in line is the paris based damien roussel aka the mekanism.

whilst he is primarily recognised for his bond with detroit and its varying strands of house and techno, seth troxler is an artist whose taste and collection spreads much further afield. through his own imprint soft touch, seth explores music from way beyond the motor citys borders as he seeks to outlet left-of-centre cuts that touch on interstellar guitar, calypso disco and seductive techno tracks. with the project inaugurated by clarian back in august of 2014, the second instalment comes from the visionquest and playhouse affiliated trio rework who draw from their unique meld of synths and vocals and turn in their lovecall ep

abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! (as we say in krauts-country)

the berlin-based techno and house producer and dj oliver koletzki has fully committed himself to his roots for this album. they can be traced back to pop music of the 80ies and 90ies, while his productions still manage to transport the fresh energy of today’s electronic music productions. großstadtmärchen is a perfect example for a producers album: oliver koletzki has created a musically compact long player while working together with many different singers. both established artists like mieze katz from the german electro-pop outfit mia., the hot german pop-rock-singer axel bosse, critically acclaimed indie band kate mosh as well as newcomers such as fran, pyur and juli holz have contributed to the album. the result are ten songs that easily fluctuate between catchy pop tracks, modern house grooves and 80ies synthesizer pop yet still maintaining a very own koletzkieske sound dynamic. großstadtmärchen, which translates as the tale of the big city starts off with this is leisure. famous pop singer mieze katz has put down her sexy voice on a guitar-based song pattern that functions as an ideal introduction into the craziness of the big city tales. after hearing this, the listener is directly fully drawn into this world when hearing juli holzs softly whispering voice singing about the dilemmas of love in the big city on zuckerwatte (single release date: 7.9.09). this is a very fine electro-pop tune. coming up next oliver koletzki and axel bosse board an underground train that takes them around the berlin u-bahn system and back.

repress , unison wax 01 as a whole is an exercise in classy, reduced house for the summer generation. a-side -seize- crashes into force, with unapologetic bass that seems to be breaking at the seams. perfect for building or taking it down, its simple, four-four quality as dusty hats scatter and float around the top. then the keys hit, sizzling and singeing at the edges like they’ve been left on the grill too long, before the whole thing melts into the break. its hot summer garage house for late evening breakdowns. flip it over and the vinyl takes on a distinctive darker flavour. -groundhog- plays smooth, reduced house elements against a driving, deep bassline that rumbles and pushes you on. around that coils softly pulsating synths that swell in and away from you before the tooly, smooth finish reduces to a close. -special treatment- is smoother though. dusty shakers, jacking claps, druggy synths and a rolling, questioning bassline shows a deeper, darker shade of berlin house before it casually pumps its way to the close... and of course vinyl only

wattage by the explorers club - a special tribute album to classic 60s radio that plays out like a show of the time and features eight cover versions along with many guest singers including chris price, lannie counts, ryan williams and jeff celentano.

echocord returns late june with a new release, joel alter under his jor-el alias, entitled ‘tilted reality’ and comprising three originals from the swedish artist. currently based in copenhagen, sweden born producer and dj joel alter is a name synonymous with the contemporary techno scene on both his home turf and across the globe, his back catalogue to date features a long player for the uncanny valley imprint, solo ep’s for d’julz’ bass culture, sweatshop and collaborative works for kontra musik alongside henrik johnsson amongst much more. this time round though we see alter return under his jor-el guise under which he first started releasing material on dj hell’s internation deejay gigolo imprint. up first is title-track ‘tilted reality’ laid out over seven minutes with a slowly unfolding dynamic feel, encompassing spiraling atmospherics, distorted rhythms and blooming stab- sequences. ‘elevation’ follows and takes a more direct groove-driven approach via straight four-four percussion and hooky bass chops, whilst tension building pads and fluttering dub echoes gradually build around the foundation. ‘solitude’ closes out the package deliving into deeper realms with soft ethereal dub chords, acid tinged leads and emotive strings.

a planned reissue for many years, the untimely passing of steve coe shortly after the label s rerelease of the ganges orchestra s the dream put everything on hold. however, time moves and so now seems a fitting time to revisit this -world dance- classic with fonder hearts. long cherished, it is a reminder of steve s enduring studio mastery. after the initial success of his work with sheila chandra in monsoon, steve expanded his musical scope, working on an indipop compilation as clubs looked to eastern flavours to add a new dimension for the dancefloor. teaming up with tabla disciple turned teacher, jhalib (millar), as well as long time collaborator martin smith, it s hard to imagine mysteries was first heard in 1982. hailed as an all time classic, it s enduring appeal can be seen in how it became a staple for the likes of danielle baldelli at the infamous cosmic club and beyond to become an original evissa -balearic- secret play for weatherall & co in those fateful summers of love and beyond. remastered especially for this release, the orchestral eastern melody and mid-tempo chugging rhythms and vocals marry in perfection with a dub bassline of wobble inspired depth. this alone would be enough, however, the original is at last backed with the 1988 remix. aimed at the then burgening new beat scene, a subtle straightening kick is added, but it s the unmistakable vocals of sheila chandra that finally brings this release together in melodic harmony. peace be with you steve. i am x

in collaboration with present books we are happy to present you ‚kätze‘ - a story accompanied by a soundtrack, both written by yannick labbe, krätze is about all the dirt that is to be found beneath the polished surface of our little lives. the book, which was designed by our boy wonder florian seidel, evolves around a modern man living in circles. he is seemingly unable to confront his faults, so he distracts himself with superficial friendships, looking good on the outside and a lot of medication.&#8232,,,,,,, on the soundtrack yannick boils down some dark italo, some playful weird house, some dirty drums and basslines as well as relentless rhythms to a highly potent 5- tracker. there are some 6am basement rollers on this as well as tracks that can be played to accompany a sunrise at an open air beach stage. yet they all have that certain two-sidedness in common, reflecting the idea of the book in a subtle way. krä,tze is nasty. krätze is dirty. krätze is not easily explained. but a little krätze lives inside all of us.

the shanklin sessions came out of the shanklin road studio that andy sims shared with one of his partners from soft rocks, bobby coulman. acid jan started its life as a jan hammer edit that andy was doing for one of soft rocks disco powerplay releases. there were a few parts that never made the final cut, but were too good to leave, so andy got friend jaime read in to jam with the left over bits, and from that acid jan was born (none of the jans original parts made it to this finished re-incarnation). acid jan found it s way onto cynic label boss felixs usb and subsequently was played at every festival/club that felix played for about a year. when andy heard felix playing it at alfresco festival in 2016, they decided to release it on cynic. in search of a b side for the release, andy dug out the other dat s from the session acid jan was recorded at, and found sitars over shanklin, a suitably oddball track to grace the other side. a little piece of chicago via india recorded in brighton.

when the sun rose on sun ra in the mid-20th century, his innovative style cast a shining light that spurred the development of modern jazz and other forms of popular music. just listen to the captivating sound of india on this album. crashing cymbals herald a haunting theme established by the composer, playing an electric piano, which draws the listener into a mysterious soundscape that haunts the imagination. such exotic use of percussion and instrumental effects was way ahead of its time when the album super-sonic jazz was first released in 1957.

at the forefront of the irish electronic music scene, sligo-born berlin-based duo brame & hamo, aka tiarnan mcmorrow and conor hamilton, announce their hotly anticipated fourth ep, celebrity impersonator. via their own imprint, brame & hamo. the title reflects the duos personality and playful energy, nodding to their love of celebrity impersonators whilst growing up. we have a bit of a soft spot for impersonators as it is a pretty ridiculous way to earn a living. a bit like djing! our favs were those of tom cruise, bill gates, gordon ramsay and johnny depp. opening with ‘midnight express, the rolling melodics nod to the early sounds of prog house and italo, acting as a transitional opener to their signature trance via techno scores. on the b-side, title track ‘celebrity impersonator, is a moody four four that edges into the darker realms with their love of breakbeat shimmering through, resulting in a club ready anthem. melting down into a rolling trance groove with a late night heady feel, ‘request rhythm closes the ep. with an impressive discography of eps behind them on their own imprint - trants, club orange and the dj favourite, limewire, as well as bookings worldwide the irish pair are set to propel onwards from sligo to berlin and beyond.

the heavy pulse of sound systems synchronizes with the precision of musique concrète and the reconstructed memory of a masked folk dance of the swiss mountains. techno, drum n bass and dub are echoed within this sonic processional, where samples are pulled apart and recycled, cut at the beginning and end, then linked together.
tresque takes his name from an open-chain circle dance from medieval southern europe. under the musical moniker d’incise he has played on numerous solo and collaborative projects with cyril bondi, designing quiet, intensive listening experiences with various combinations of software, recordings from vinyl or in the field, modified objects, percussion and harmonium. as tresque the delicate minimalism he’s known for takes shape within driving grooves. airy, spacious, amplified noise from his collection of samples is sliced and tethered to weightier, physical beats. a tension forms between uplift and downfall, hypnotically oscillating between structural textures and collective dance.

amsterdam based luuk van dijk is welcomed into the hot creations fold this july with his heavy-hitting parallax e.p. chicago production wizard dj skull is also on board to rework the b-side. title track parallax is set to cause a serious stir at festivals and clubs alike this summer. the smattering of high-hats elevate the track as the space-like beeps and blips add another facet. on the flip, dimension applies an ominous vocal stab as the bass rumbles — perfect for low ceiling basement raves. on the remix, dj skull adds a touch of chicago class via some softer vocals, dubby chords and a pounding bass. at the tender age of 22, luuk van dijk has been signed to acclaimed labels such as viva music, roush, food music, sanity and lost records. championed by stalwarts such as steve lawler and eats everything, he has taken his sound to some of the world’s most prestigious events. ron maney aka dj skull became known for being one of the first djs to play the new sound coming out of chicago, honing his craft at the infamous music box and power plant. releasing records since the early 90s, he later launched his own labels hypnotic tones and wax candy records. recent releases have appeared on chiwax, domina trxxx and mentha records.

time flies, doesn’t it? it sure does when you suddenly wake up to celebrate your 10th vinyl release as a small label, which is the case with us. but as we’re all about quality over quantity, our latest 12” offering comes with a superb collage of fresh music by the one and only radicall. having made his mark as one of the most consistent producers, known for his trademark combination of strong, dynamic drum programming and soft and booming basslines, radicall keeps on delivering top-quality music with each next release. and this 12” single is no exception to the said rule. the playful, happy-go-lucky “touch” is a bit of a nod to the old-school/rave/early jungle/footwork/you-name-it style given its complex drum pattern and an array of acid-style synthetic samples and tinges of vocal here and there, but sticking to modern-day standards nonetheless. the flipside comes with “build me up” remixed by bungle, who surely knows how to make good things just as good as they are, but yet a bit different. and here we have the brazilian powerhouse reshaping radicall’s work to make it a bit lighter and upbeat, but still retaining some elements of rawness mixed perfectly with traces of nostalgia. an excellent job, breathing a new life into the original piece - a darker-shaded straight-to-the-point roller, which you can get as a digital bonus added to the release. so here it is - the tenth vinyl item in our catalogue, featuring names you simply can’t go wrong with. what better way to celebrate the occasion?

the second release on werk is signed by j. manuel. the young producer has been polishing his sound ever since he first started experimenting with electronic music gear as a child. his commitment to following his own instincts rather than conforming to what was being played around him resulted in a very different aesthetic to the one commonly associated with berlin techno. drive fiction ep stands proof of that. all 3 tracks push boundaries in their own style, that being perhaps the strongest link between them. the title track -drive fiction- presents old-school leads over broken beats and electro inspired pads while the a2 -falling in sine circulation- is arguably the most dance floor oriented track, with a pounding 4×4 kick drum and an alarming 3/4 sine wave slaying the high frequencies. closing the ep is b-side -softer-, a melodic track with long, undulating pads that is nonetheless driven by a powerful rave-inspired beat. with its second release, werk comes to confirm the path it seeks to travel through both parties and releases: that of the sounds less rigid. gritty, wild and presenting a wide range of rhythmic patterns, drive fiction ep is a defying record. challenge accepted?

up next on hot creations is intrepid spaniard dennis cruz. the award winning dj and producer drops some heavy hitting dance-floor dynamite this june, enlisting the production expertise of new yorks joeski for the remix. title track freaks is deep and driving, with its almost slurred vocal, its perfect for those 4am vibes when the freaks come out to play. mother f..cker utilises heavier percussion set off by a pounding bass. the joeski rework of freaks adds a dash of prominent high-hats with the producer softening that unmistakable bass-line. dennis explains this ep is the style of music that i love to play and produce. it s what i feel more comfortable with and what i think defines my sound. dennis cruz has been firmly implanted in the music scene from a young age. he got his first taste for playing music at the age of 17. since then hes gone on to produce tracks for prominent labels such as moon harbour, solid grooves, snatch! and nervous records. his records have been championed by some of the industrys hottest djs from jamie jones to loco dice, and nic fanciulli to marco carola

&#8203,,,re-issue of hard-to-find 1971 jazz album, originally recorded and released in finland. fascinating fusion of modern jazz and elements of caribbean music, african roots and pan. quintet featuring rudy smith from trinidad & tobago, plus musicians from barbados, surinam, and ghana. tip! lars samuelson, a jazz trumpet player and producer in sweden who heard this quite unique quintet, was captivated by their concept and sound, and asked them to record an album. otinku, the resulting album, was recorded in stockholm in 1971, produced by samuelson, and originally released on the odeon label, a subsidiary of emi finland. with an afro-jazz/caribbean orientation, the selections are a rich mixture of jazz standards and original compositions, including recently re-discovered killer funk tunes otinku and sugar daddy, and a fine steel jazz version of bags groove. the album was their only release and is now a sought after item for steel pan/caribbean music fans and vinyl diggers.
