in a new transatlantic partnership, uk label secret reels and washington, dc imprint better listen records have teamed up for a run of collaborative records. the joint brand, secret listen, combines the labels in sound as well as in name. imagine the lush, pensive and moody deep house tones of secret reels joining with the sample-heavy disco soul leanings of blr. secret listen vol. 1 takes two artists each from both rosters for the first amalgamation. the -secret side- hosting english producers harry wolfman and chocky, while the listen side invites sune and vitamin d of high hat appreciation society and the newly founded honey butter records to the affair. it s a v/a release with a variety of offerings and flavours. wolfmans floozy sits first in the record as a bright and whimsical flute-led morsel, while chockys inner disco is a cerebral, loopy cut. on the flip, sune provides some exquisite rhodes action in his groovy midtempo effort, glidin, and his swedish compatriot closes out the affair with the bittersweet lately.

last year s acclaimed sea power & change ep, a melancholic project from the mind of celebrated portuguese powerhouse tiago, is now revisited through the lens of three essential esp institute artists. side a gives us a take on strange fruit by our heroes soft rocks — a smacked up dub/boogie rendition leaving the beautifully dark mood intact whilst twisting the the rhythms toward the tough side. on side b, secret circuit (eddie ruscha of laughing light of plenty, and soon to release his solo release for esp) stuffs wild combination in his saddle and takes us for a ride through a futuristic version of the wild west with a funky bassline and distant whistles, only to be rounded out by a blissed-out epic re-rendering of yesterday is gone by somberero galaxys jonny nash. its a family affair.

following his two recent singles on scubas hotflush recordings, london based george fitzgerald is back with his much-anticipated third release and his debut for aus music. titled silhouette, the three-track ep includes two originals and a remix from american producer john roberts. fitzgerald once again manages to create a world in which garage, dubstep, house, r&b and a host of other musical influences happily co-exist. on silhouette hints of warm acid, layered oscillating synth lines, propulsive beats and fitzgeralds signature use of vocal samples make this a peak time affair, albeit an incredibly lush one. reset is eight minutes of forward thinking uk garage combined with the melodic sensibilities of detroit techno. for the silhouette remix, roberts develops a relentless broken groove, occasionally punctured by brief piano interludes that recall the sounds of his 2011 debut full-length on dial records, glass eights. a breathtaking remix that sounds like nothing else out there at the moment. in addition to silhouette, fitzgerald currently has remixes out for french house producer brawther on secretsundaze and uk bass artist throwing snow, as well as an upcoming ep on hotflush and a track on the labels recent compilation, back and 4th. this year will also bring the founding of man make music, a new label fitzgerald is starting with friends.

!!!!!!strictly limited to 500 copies!!!!!! together with stefan goldmanns debut cd the transitory state, macro releases a strictly limited box set containing five 7? records holding the electroacoustic album voices of the dead. with his releases for innervisions, perlon and macro stefan goldmann has been a key figure at the cutting edge of post minimal techno and the renewal of house music. this album is a distinctively different affair though, reaching far beyond the scope of dancefloor electronics. starting a trilogy of concept albums, stefan goldmann searches for the common root of all music in an electroacoustic setting. from this album turret is already renowned as the intro sequence of richie hawtins groundbreaking de9 transitions mix compilation and was also commissioned by the biblioteque nationale de france for the imeb phonoteque public collection. the artist explains: at first sight we recognise upfront elements like a melody or rhythmic pattern, which we associate with a certain piece or style of music, but there is tension between two notes, hard-to-define background information that at a closer look is found everywhere - within the music of coltrane and stravinsky, death metal and 9th century byzantine chants. if there is anything like a total, secret common ground, than its this information lurking in the background. these are the voices of the dead, the heritage of an endless line of ancestors brought forward through the centuries. i tried to make these elements audible as clearly as possible. really like this weird space ambient one. ive put katorga and izo already into my final scratch computer and have been playing them!
