love makes the world go around. “two”, the second album by the soul session, is full of love. ralph kiefer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer from south germany embarks on a stylistically diverse journey into soul, jazz, funk and world music. being a highly respected session musician in the jazz as well as the crossover scene, kiefer made a serious impact in 2011 with “one”, the first soul session album. “one” was built on a solid backbeat of soul, hip hop and funk, while “two” now takes a step further into a spiritual and eclectic dimension. “quantraversa” featuring the voice of las vegas based neo-soul queen georgia anne muldrow is the mind- blowing opener of this album, a truly deep and intense rhythmic statement. quantraversa is a word which you will not find in any dictionary, but that is not the point, says ralph kiefer. “this album is a journey to the inner self. the recording process was like meditation. i often started with a loop, or an idea for a melody. it evolved from there and i simply let it happen. when i involved the lyricists and vocalists, my drafts sometimes took a completely different paths and ended in something unexpected and beautifully new.” the double vinyl is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

more quality from kenny dope, here in his soul fuzion guise. >i got rhythm< leads with the kickdrum (think >iko iko< given a house touch) and then a soulful vocal from vee drifts over the top, while lush chords and a subtle bassline complete this late night groover. on the flip, the >ritual mix< fattens out the bass and kickdrum, and lets the vocal drift more into the back ground, letting newly added percussion come more into play on a slightly tougher take than the original.

polish beatmaker pawel strzelczyk has been slinging out all manner of beats as teilete since 2010, largely on the u know me label, but now he brings his dynamic technicolour sound to father & son to surely catapult his skills to a wider audience. there s a rich musicality at work throughout magnetic soul/magnetic tree, as blues samples, rich orchestration, dubstep rhythms, juke patterns and soulful vocals all swirl around in a highly accomplished blender. the attention to detail is remarkable and the production is pristine, but for all the daring ideas and studio skill this is also an incredibly immediate listen that draws you in from the start.

this anthology brings to light the music of robert Æolus myers, featuring recordings from 1982 to 2006 that were previously available only on cassette or cd.
the music within “a retrospective” tells the story of a man whose music elevates its listeners to a place of inspiration and enlightenment. often ethereal, Æolus’ music is driven by synthesizers, melodic flutes, sweeping patterns, and subtle rhythms to seed inspiration from deep within the listener.
one might assume that Æolus carved a new path for electronic music in hawaii, but the islands never quite fully embraced the burgeoning new age scene that Æolus found himself a part of during the 1980s and the early 1990s.
few artists in hawaii have produced a body of work, let alone embarked on a musical journey, such as the one that Æolus has created.
for aloha got soul, this release marks a new chapter of bringing rare and relatively unknown music of hawaii to the surface.

incoming! adult only 46 is here and it’s another biggie. chris carrier’s trusty label always delivers the funk and this release is no exception. featuring rhythm&soul plus russian newcomers belogurov and orbit and the bossman carrier himself, it’s comprised four tracks, all with their own unique groove and atmosphere – perfect for anyone who loves deep rhythmic house music with hypnotic sensibilities. rhythm&soul takes one side of the record, the first of his tracks ‘take off’ comes in with sturdy beats pushes things along at a steady pace. his use of ‘live’ sounding percussion is evident throughout, working perfectly alongside a captivating double bass keeping things moving. if you manage to stay still while this is playing then there’s something wrong with you, utterly irresistible. the second track from the madrid-based producer is another upbeat joint. the deep bassline bounces up and down while razor sharp hats slice and dice their way through the lower end. as with most of rhythm&soul’s work, there are lots of nuances and details peppering the track, keeping it interesting from start to finish. on the flip side we have the russian boys belogurov and orbit, who deliver eight minutes of pleasure with ‘jysk’. smooth cosmic grooves rise up off this steaming hot, sensual cut. a naughty allure emanates from this track as it moves forward, subtle pads swirling in the background to suck you in and keep you locked to the groove. and to round things off, chris carrier delivers a typically eccentric roll out. subtle beats are placed over an analogue low end together with a selection of strange sounds direct from carrier’s well-equipped lab. variations in the rhythm and texture keep this one interesting all the way until the end.and there it is, another hot one from the adult only camp… strictly for over 18s!
