the nassau sessions were recorded in nassau bahamas in march of 2013 using zero analog equipment. this debut 7inch features four sedated, rum-fueled dubs by double pelican man. the sounds chosen are familiar to the dub reggae lexicon. deep sub bass, guitar chords, synth bleeps and clacking percussion. all drenched in echo and reverb, each ingredient added with careful consideration to the mix. the rhythms tumble and sway confidently. grooves are proudly extended, while the occasional overdub effect gives each track a paradoxically haunting undertone

pioneer dj, guy cuevas made his name by being one of the first residents in the famous parisian club le palace, shortly after it opened in 1978. attracting some of the biggest names in the entertainment business like prince, madonna, kenzo, serge gainsbourg, the location was a must-go for any one wanting to party over the paris adopted cuban expat’s amazing selection.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

its mildly comical, that tim wagner and amy douglas, two former long islanders would choose sunrise hwy (former sunrise highway) as the name for their venture, but one listen to the music, and its clear as to why they chose such a lofty and expansive name. sunrise hwy is atmospheric, sophisticated, broad, and most importantly a return to the song as king.

*in a dream* is the third album from the juan maclean. if anything, this new lp is further evidence of the *undeniable creative chemistry between house music wizard juan maclean and vocalist / former lcd soundsystem member nancy whang* (pitchfork). the album takes its musical cues from moroders munich to the funky nassau sounds of compass point and to anytime in downtown nyc. co-produced by nick millhiser (holy ghost!). the vinyl lp includes a download code.

great new four track ep featuring some super cool disco rarities hailing from the islands of the caribbean. worth the price of this 12 inch alone is the fantastic and über-rare *naussaus discos* by mucho plus, an awesome remake of the beginning of the end classic and a floorfiller so in-demand it features in discogs top ten of most expensive records ever sold. this is followed by a great funky steel drum cover of the roy ayers classic *cant you see me* by trinidadian artist boogsie taken from his hard-to-find 1979 lp. next up is *sweetie* by manhattan charlies roots which is a barbadian disco take on bunny macs afro classic *let me love you* and then rounding things up nicely is the super hot *hands up* by casual t, a soulful disco boogie jam originally out on a mega rare jamaican 7 inch. superb!

last night on earth continues to support and pluck artists that are turning heads, with ejeca at the forefront of ushering in the recent heavy 90s revival. his nu-house, garage style is ever present in his latest frequency ep. the first two tracks hi rollin and neva 2 far are dripping with classic vocals and vintage house sound. nassau storm brings a dubby side to the ep, while time for change adds calming intelligent beats fused with soul. last night on earth hit the spot once again as the supreme ejeca puts out another incredible release.

i get lifted is a version of the track harry wayne casey (k.c.) and richard finch (later known in life as kc and the sunshine band) produced for george mccrae. los angeles vocalist fanny franklin shines on vocals riding an irresistible cosmic flavored tune that settles nicely somewhere between live disco and spacey soul. franklin has appeared on recordings by dakah and sang alongside macy gray. she is the de facto orgone vocalist to appear on tours and as the main vocalist on the upcoming album. on the flip is an instrumental inspired as much by roy ayers as fela kuti. its what you do will appeal to fans of the bands previous recordings like hambone and funky nassau

2011 collection featuring cuts from shuggie otis, sly & the family stone and aretha franklin.. the old grey whistle test has now been synonymous with quality music for 40 years. although possibly best know as a show for rock music, the show maintained an amazing variety when it came to choosing its artists, it really only had two criteria, 1, that the artists had released an album and 2 that they produced great music. this collection mostly features artists that appeared on the show but also include artists who for whatever reason didnt or couldnt appear on the show.
