swedish underground powerhouses mr tophat & art alfie return to bass culture with their second ep for the label after the phenomenal success of their first outing, which picked up strong support from across the scene, particularly from ricardo villalobos. this time around, they drop two hefty slabs of disco-tinged house imbued with their own distinct flavour throughout. ‘dub the rub’ pumps along with an infectious groove, tough percussion powers along with a rolling bassline. watch out for the vocal-led breakdown midway through, killer! on the flip, ‘fnatt’ works around a more traditional melodic house motif, tender and bright with a lush b-line and captivating vocals made to move your body and soul.

swedish producers mr. tophat & art alfie partner up to drop an intergalactic 2step rendition of luca cazals maya for a fidgety number that incorporates spacey synths and otherworldly chords. meanwhile on the flip spanish duo acid mondays deliver an infectious groove courtesy of convoluted percussion, mesmerizing synth licks and a purring bassline. tying things together brigante provides a rendition focused on undulating rhythms whilst vocal murmurs resound throughout the mix.

next up is kvk900 with the much sought after track house music. a 14 minute long mesmerising house journey that s already been included in ryan elliotts panorama bar 06 mix. on the b-side you ll find the glitch. a psyched out tech-bomb stuck in the karlovak machine.

tapping into the strong current of quality electronic music coming out of sweden, the latest bass culture shines a light on two talents working out of the stockholm underground who have created their own imprint on the european house and techno scene. the pajala sunrise e.p marks the first release that mr tophat and art alfie have issued away from their shared base camps of junk yard connections and karlovak, two labels that showcase the pair’s commitment to pushing 4/4 dance music forwards wherever they can. energy lies at the heart of the sound that oscar and rudolf (to give them their real names) conjure up, both in the urgent pulse of their full-bodied drum arrangements and the spiritual lilt of their melodic content.

the first release after junk yard connections mr tophat (or was is art alfie) did spend some time in a tokyo record store and met kogara. they had a good click and since then the idea for the tokyo impressions series was born... here is is... three killer house tunes on the trustworthy junk yard connections label!

art alfie joined the toy tonics crew ! you know him from studio barnhus. he released his album last on axel bomans label last year and a couple of hot tracks with longtime partner mr. tophat before that. his first ep for toy tonics features 3 of the sweetest bangers he did till now. what a wonderful vibe! and the remix … killer. by stockholms amazing newcomers mount liberation unlimited (who just released an ep on permanent vacation). art alfie is busy these days: besides his involvement with toy tonics he started a own label (velvet pony). even if you might know him mainly from the kick-ass dancefloor stuff he has been doing with karlovak and the studio barnhus gang - there is some more complex background here: alfie used to play in hardcore and psychedelic bands and has a real golden hand when it comes to work with musicians. in fact currently he is also producing some stuff for swedish supergroup/hotshot band ‚off the meds‘! yes, stay tuned! art alfie is coming on strong ?? in 2019!

art alfie inaugurates his velvet pony imprint with a four track ep. the new label will function as a platform for the artist and his friends, shining light on a catalogue of music from the stockholm scene. having built a strong reputation alongside mr. tophat with a string of revered releases on the duos karlovak imprint, velvet pony signals the opening of a new door for art alfie. the project arrives after a highly acclaimed album on studio barnhaus, as well as his first solo ep on karlovak last year on which the underground hit flaunting was featured. velvet pony trax 1 sees art alfie brandishing his immaculate production technique over 4 distinct grooves. soft spoken takes us to the twilight zone with low slung bass riffs and jazzy chords, whilst ‘since ive seen you offers a dubbed out dose of twisted disco for the after-hours. on the b side, hideouts pairs hypnotic percussion with an undeniable funk, and front, a co-production with mans glaeser - raises the heat for an energetic finish.

for the third release on kwench records, cassy collaborates with stockholm’s art alfie. between them they deliver two diverse tracks brought together with a touch of class and cassy’s distinct vocal. for the remix, german dj / producer chris count rounds off the ep by delivering an acid tinged version of ‘solar’.

next up on karlovak is italian dj and producer santos. having released music since 1995 on labels such as crosstown rebels, desolate, ovum and bedrock, santos has an impressive string of releases in his back. we are thrilled welcoming him to karlovak with this 2x12 containing four house burners thats been road tested and approved by the label heads themselves, mr.tophat & art alfie, over the past year.

enemy returns with another remix package including efforts from some of our favorite producers at the moment. this collective includes the crafty and credible sound of vril, the legendary steve bicknell, and house musics latest tastemakers mr. tophat and art alfie. getting the remix treatment this time around is dustin zahns 2014 comeback release, >new day rising<. monsieur tophat and his esteemed colleague art alfie surprised us by turning in a very dark and stompy techno rendition of >lost in rapture<. it goes without saying that this one is definitely geared towards the time of the night when things get a little weird. vril follows up with an excellent take on >new day rising< by keeping the tension for nearly three minutes before the reese-like bassline drops in and causes the track to evolve into a groove that demands instant attention. steve bicknell rounds out the package with the peak-time hammer! its relentless, heady, and undoubtedly bicknell! this one has >rave< written all over it.

dan beaumont makes his debut on nfs with a solid double helping of deliciously deep beats, * bath house* already making a splash as it prime position on matt tolfreys newly released fabric 81 mix cd. hot swedish duo mr tophat and art alfie also provide a remix in their inimitable style.
