multi-faceted canadian artist james teej drops his second lp, eight bit ocean on sashas last night on earth imprint. releasing his first james teej singles in 2008, teej has since become a firm fixture on the electronic music circuit with releases for we play house, rebirth, supernature and no.19 music as well as a debut lp on radio slaves rekids in 2010 entitled evening harvest. since then, teej has joined old friends jared simms and voytek korab to become one third of my favorite robot, an act which is steadily becoming another of torontos break-outs via tracks and remixes for visionquest and crosstown rebels as well as their own highly regarded my favorite robot records.

lokee musiks sophomore release features newcomer afriqua. a 21 year old from virginia, usa and currently based in berlin. this fledgling producer and student of the royal academy of music sparked interest with lokee when they met at one of their famous after hours in london. the title track here is melt & features broken groove with afriquas minimal perspective. electric pulse stabs are at the heart of this rhythm and drive it with a much appreciated space. vocals from sorcha richardson adds an eerie anthemic touch reminiscent of somewhere between the cocteau twins & fever ray

rising parisian producer yakines career pretty much defines the word eclectic � in his teens, he was a bona fide metalhead, playing guitar in a metal band that toured all over europe, before his love of hip hop steered him in the direction of the dancefloor. he really found his home behind the decks, however, and once he discovered the world of electronic music via the patronage of his brother�who introduced him to the sounds of underground deep house and techno � yakine quickly moved into production. he has since released a series of eps on european labels like esperanza and jetaime records. the rise ep is his first release for spectral sound, a four-track slab of understated, atmospheric techno.
