trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogues most treasured releases. overcome and lady science (nyc sunrise) need little introduction, and now come sporting the new tr11:11 matrix number. written and produced by thomas melchior and baby ford aka soul capsule. these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the west london ifach studio in 1999. on the a side overcome is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. the intermittent vocal samples and the release s signature organ set you up for the flip, lady science (nyc sunrise) . possibly one of house music s most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. the understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. remastered by rashad at d & m

following a standout appearance on dvs1’s mistress label with his “just pain” track, the man from minneapolis, doubt, returns to don’t be afraid for the first time since 2014’s “poor dog” ep. in the interim he has continued to record on disposable commodities under the doubt moniker, whilst also exploring experimental and ambient sound under the name time heals nothing.
for his most inclusive outing to date, doubt mines the outer limits of minimal house music whilst still maintaining the vibe of alienation and melancholy that characterises his work. the mood of “april” is euphoric and carefree but dig deeper and the fragile beauty also suggests an impending and ominous apocalypse. “what is happening” and “samusex” counterbalance the a-side’s brief suggestion of joy with a mood closer to doubt’s previous work. the title track meanwhile recalls the work of labels like ifach and trelik with a swinging, stripped down dub sound.

jack murphy s debut 12inch on new label knowing something. having previously released records on frozen border sublabel reference and dont be afraid s special editions series, murphy now ventures out on his own with this first knowing something record. the record across its four tracks takes cues from a variety of places including mid-90s breaky techno, late 90s electro, and early 2000s ifach records.

perbec is mark broom and baby ford. their last vinyl outing was -variety club- for the seminal ifach imprint in 2001. here they return with -chaser- an epic journey into the original principles of house music. infectious bass, chicago-style keys and deep, analog synth pads announce that the party is very much in full force. flip the disc for -long john- which features stripped rhythms with plenty of swing and energy - equally suited to the main room or afterhours. mastered at d & m.

title track -dust- launches the ep into an immediately throbbing groove, rung through with the dissonant clangs of the genre s cold, machine-obsessed heritage. this hydraulic homage is succeeded by -overshadow- —a closer inspection of techno s cogs and wheels that sees volkov tinkering with its parts over 9 minutes of cumulative atmospherics. endless—the new collaboration between alistair wells aka perc and giorgio gili, based on speedy j s electric deluxe label—offers a hypnotic remix from their pooled influences of brian eno, byetone, robert henke, irdial and ifach. here volkov s dark and growling slow-burner is stepped up into an octane workout, dressed with gili s minimalistic traits and seasoned with a spot of perc-style abrasiveness. -corner- is dust ep s provocative closer. driven by anxious, incessant hats and syncopated hisses it uses suspended melodic morsels to work itself into a beguiling anti-climax that leaves you begging for more.

scream is a trip through vocal-like echo chambers that is losing itself within the depth of reverb, its oriental aesthetics being similarly credible as the tidy bass beat is. nobody else has catapulted baby fords ifach sound into the year 2010 as consequently as sis did.
