fragrant harbour has invited general ludd s richard mcmaster (golden teacher) and tom marshallsay (dam mantle) to end the year long hiatus since the last fghb release. the first track what brings dark, african rhythms alongside meticulously structured techno elements, coming together to create an intense and maddening energy. later last night continues forward with interspersed percussion layered on top of inventive sub-frequencies bringing a constant pulse to the track. the fastest track of the record, making strange ends with more madness a hollow mid-low range drives unrelenting throughout, visited unexpectedly by frenzied percussive highs.

ned ludd, possibly born edward ludlam, is the person from whom, it is popularly claimed, the luddites took their name. in 1779, ludd is supposed to have broken two stocking frames in a fit of rage. after this incident, attacks on the frames were jokingly blamed on ludd. when the luddites emerged in the 1810s, his identity was appropriated to become the folkloric character of captain ludd, also known as king ludd or general ludd, the luddites alleged leader and founder. disclaimer: this record was made by real immigrants

having dropped some of our favourites from the last year on labels like mr saturday night and autonomous africa, we are very happy to welcome these guys to the ten thousand yen family. weird, trippy rhythms, space echoes and chaos held together with hard percussive sound. so sick.

this is the third autonomous africa ep, the idea being that one ep is released each year and all proceeds are donated to a charity in africa. last years second volume, along with a fundraising night in glasgow and another in london raised several thousand pounds for the mtandika mission in tanzania (more info on that below).

after kicking off the year with releases by wheelman and general ludd, were very pleased to announce that naum gabo completes our recent trilogy of releases from glasgow based artists. alongside ivan smagghe, its no secret that optimo have been a huge influence around these parts and having released ivans smagghe & cross project on belters last year, its a huge honour to work with naum gabo - the production partnership of jonnie wilkes (jg wikes of optimo) and james savage (mastering engineer for optimo music). fittingly enough, naum gabo played live at the first ever optimo related parties we attended at the sub club back in 2005 and jonnies influential and supportive presence has been felt over the years as we started to become more involved in the glasgow scene and as the label developed. so it didnt require much thought to do this release before we had even heard these new naum gabo tracks they are absolute slammers of the highest order! really big release, bringing to our minds the likes of errorsmith. belters is a new club-focussed label brought to you by huntleys + palmers.

helmed by a crew of ex-pats in hong kong craving the musical stimulation of their birthplaces, homesick is a celebration of the nostalgia and passion at the root of all musical experience, as channeled through seriously on-point disco edits. after choice turns from general ludd, marquis hawkes and others, this various artists 12inch brings back former guests in an implied fashion for more of that worldly, adventurous boogie business. apocalypse now simmers with unresolved tension, tart drums and gnarled synth lines, while african temperament lets the percussion tumble in a cavernous space. summer madness is a simmering, drum led version of kc flightt s classic, and then gik gwong zung pings the record off into cosmic synth disco territory for a perfect finishing move.
