after the first successful record, danish label front man gaze ill pursues another excursion through the ever-growing dubstep-spectrum. he returns to his own physical outline of cue line records with four hefty cuts that surely make up another stellar record, however he s not alone. last time it was his partner in crime rdg, this time its frontline support from the dutchman & bass mammoth tmsv, who’s given space-time a completely different spin.

yet again, labelowner gaze ill joins forces with the danish dubstep ambassador rdg, this time for a 4 track collaborative ep. on the aside the artists minds melt together in two pieces of dubstepscience. as the title suggests, rdg and gaze ill show what dubstep is made of with “keepin’ it real” that’s characterized by a pressuring hardness, and uplifting energy. “the zone” follows with its progressive universe that evolves in just the right way with perfect timing. the bside shows off the two artists individual skills with immense, paranoid vibrations on rdg’s “shapeshift”, and thrillingly deep basslines on gaze ill’s “combo”. the ep is a refreshing showcase of the genre’s finest offerings original sound with a wellbalanced diversity. rdg and gaze ill keep it real for this first vinyl release on cue line records.

a reimagining of four tracks that have swiftly helped define the impressive reputation the label enjoys today, the >reflections ep< is another example of cues continuing desire to make its mark on the drum and bass scene. featuring remixes from the likes of technique recordings superstar, phetsta, rising russian producer, eastcolors, hospital records and viper recordings alumni, agent alvin and the mighty mutated form, the >reflections ep< boasts a heavyweight lineup and puts a fresh spin on some of the tracks that have defined cue recordings short and spectacular history.

beranek’s debut album, “sound of danger”, was released on mind expanding records in november 1981. nowhere near as accessible as the previous single, the album fared poorly commercially. withdrawing from the single’s fun, kitsch pop, the album is cool and static, driven by thin rhythm boxes, cold synths, and glacial guitars. taking heavy cues from david bowie, all of the songs are sung in a nasally english accent, a rare occurrence in norway at the time. the lyrics are melancholic, but tinged with paranoia. there are also upbeat tracks that evoke a prog or glam sensibility a la king crimson, alan parsons, or roxy music. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring red, black, and white lines that evoke a visualized richter scale designed by monica moltzau. each copy includes a 2-sided 8x11” insert with lyrics and an autographed press photo of beranek.
