reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.

the sixth instalment of slow motion s retro-futuristic international-sister label is the debut release of mysterious russian producer fakundo. this record sits at the heavier end of our musical spectrum and is brimming with hard-hitting electro swagger that conjures up a dystopian video-game underworld, the best bits of alien sex fiend and comes atop a whole bunch of wobbly baselines. not for the faint of heart this record is a total dance-floor destroyer.

lp maxime daoud, a much sought after musician accompanying forever pavot and his brother adrien soleiman, has released under the alias ojard a first album of soft and delicate instrumental vignettes. if euphonie calls for cinematographic comparisons (vladimir cosma, basil kirchin), the minimalism of the arrangements, the simplicity of the melodies conjure up to erik saties furniture music and brian enos thinking music.

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.

h.takahashi, tokyo based architect and sound designer follows up his revered collection where to be? on where to now? records with raum, a full length lp suite of meditative pulse minimalism. raum draws its cues from a melting pot of closely connected yet wholly individual strands of minimalism - from the japanese minimalist works from the likes of hiroshi yoshimura and satoshi ashikawa, to masters such as erik satie and john cage, and ambient leaders brian eno and roedelius, takahashi soaks this historical influence and rings it out it through a modern filter to create a record of stillness, ethereal beauty, and transcendent energy. takahashi composes all of his music on his iphone, and this is no gimmick, rather a conscious decision which allows takahashi to constantly create on the go without the constraints of space, and for takahashi raum serves as a mediation on the relationship between sound and its environment. for takahashi this creative process feels something like an invisible phenomenon taking over & mutating these constantly changing spaces into abstract sound, creating a brief pseudo space which expresses and highlights the features of the environment for a moment in time.” although perhaps quite an abstract statement of intent, when deeply immersed into takahashi’s pieces this idea of slowly gliding through different architectural spaces is naturally conjured through the gentle repetitive pulse which runs through his work and the playful unstructured tonality of objects which weave around this forward (or upward) motion. raum was created across the city of tokyo, be it a café / park / office / road / platform / subway these pieces explore the power sound holds to emotionally enhance and mutate the listeners environment. the power of the music presented is in that which is barely there, embracing space, silence, and cyclical repetition. the music is to help us function - it s music to work to, to sleep to, to help us find a sense of space and oneness within a world that is increasingly wild and untameable.

for almost two decades dave paton has been dredging the recesses of his mind for electronic inspiration. the findings have been fantastical, freakish and formidable, all ways of describing his latest outing. -the great pretender- straddles electro and techno, staggers between ambient and idm and swaggers to its own bawdy beat. rasping rhythm patterns are rinsed in ragged roars, charcoal chords are conjured before being crunched as the wee djs has his fun across five tracks.

last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo – alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis weren’t often preferred to fist pumping “bangers”. wanting to flex his lovin’ spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in weston’s warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

london and rio unite to celebrate 100% carnival vibes in this the third instalment on the limited edition 10- vinyl collector s series of brazilian influenced sounds, barefoot beats. veteran disco lover and production maestro ray mang drops a drum-tastic number batidas da paixao which packs more dance floor punch than a night in bahia on the caipirinhas ! meanwhile over on the flip, brazil based dj and producer carrot green conjures up yet more mighty dance floor moves with the horn led arno . music that you can dance to in the sand, or on the dance floor. vamos!

having earned himself the status as one of madrids hottest techno-exports, regal is back on figure with a special ep comprising both new works from him plus two creative re-interpretations by none other than radio slave. original and remix rub shoulders on the records a-side, both revolving around its enticing vocal hook. while regal employs a skipping beat and skittish percussion to conjure up an air of mystery, radioslave crawls down further the rabbits hole and uncovers the track’s slumbering lunatic qualities. on the flipside regal is back in full control, albeit this time operating in a framework a tad more housy than usual: snappy snares slice up the bubbling acid-line on the fast whirling while its eponymus vocal sample ironically asks ‘did you see it?’. equally aptly-titled slab barges right in, wielding hefty drums and a bassline that oozes groove out of every loop. as part of the digital release, the ep comes with another atmospheric radioslave-rework of from other sounds, leaning on the ambient and heavy on the subs

after releases on nowar, terpsichoré and cinematic, french artist the florian muller project gives parisian label escapade their second release. the four tracks span across a wide range of electronic sounds, showcasing the artists rich influences. friday afternoon opens the record with a solid house groove featuring a beautiful rhodes solo. hommage galactique pays a tribute to detroits hi-tech jazz sound pioneered by underground resistances galaxy 2 galaxy. on the b side, the forian muller project leaves out his jazz influences. the hypnotic sounds of frederique conjure up a mysterious, almost jungle-like, ambiance and low tech soul ends the record on a deep and atmospheric techno vibe.

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes
