one of detroit’s most relevant names in modern techno “terrence dixon” joins the modularz roster of producers with his debut ep that features both his terrence dixon name and his alias population one on the same ep. terrence dixon submitted this ep to modularz a couple months back and said to us that he had something special for the modularz label - with the intention of releasing a well balanced ep with deep grooves, stripped down rawness and funky hypno rhythms we felt this would be a great addition to our catalog. we are very pleased to present this release and continue to show our range and our diversity in the techno genre

live from concrete island is the debut album from brighton based producer stephen maskell, aka the nags head. taking material from the last four years, he s created a head-spinning tapestry of melodic techno and crushed cityscapes. like echospace, maskells destroyed visions nail the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land. for the city s lolloping, dubby percussion we reach deep into its guts, pulling out a squiggly bricolage of pistons, pool balls, window frames, jets of steam. in turns rasping and narcotic, concrete island s beatless sections are akin to the crunching menace of early clark, or murcofs cosmic space treatments. an occasional shimmer guitar pop gem emerges from the rubble.

kicking off the ruby hill s label with it s first release is birmingham s, nightmoves. the concrete ep is a four tracker, with dark room sleazily bass slapping it s way across the dance floor to you, building and oiling you up before flourishing into the synth laden house stomper that will work you into a tizzy, while once upon a time in guilin zones in on a trippy far east setting, drawing you in before an acid takeover. flip it over and find a more downtempo nightmoves with varnish , a heavily layered track with synth, bass and percussion brimming over, building from bell s, synths, kicks and hi-hats up to a house groove while cloud walking squelches it s way through trippy echoing synths and invites you to enjoy its deep distorted journey through the skies k-clouds. limited to 300 copies, housed in a hand stamped manilla brown sleeve with separate artwork and stickers

every week end im going to concrete to listen the artists who are playing there. i m talking about music with them , and do the same with people sharing the dancefloor with me. i collect all these inputs and ideas, all this energy, to define what concrete music dna is. because of this variety of people, tastes, and point of views, the label can t be reduced to one and only genre. to make the music more easy to apprehend, we are splitting the label in 3 parts, 3 differents moods, or more precisely, 3 times of the day... concrete music 7am contains the kind of music you could easily listen in our club at dawn, when the light is blue and the sun starts to filter through the mi-closed shutters. minimalistic, freaky or mellow, but always deep. concrete 3pm is definetly turned to house music. 3pm is the time when smiles are on every face, when the same vibe, the same energy, is going through every stomach in the room, and the crowd becomes one same entity. concrete music 4am aims for the more techno and black side of the music we love. at 4am, fists are pumping the air, or heads are down and eyes closed. it s not about how hard or fast the kickdrum beats, but how thick the atmosphere is.
