after a refreshing and vibey summer of sun, beats & parties, dext hq is firing up for our next release which is set to drop this autumn it is an absolute pleasure to welcome back one of our stable artists, callahan, for the follow up to his well-received dext debut don t need. callous ep shows the same rawness and intensity of his earlier work but with a more polished and refined production sound, focusing on a few key elements that are executed to perfection. right from the off, the title track callous draws you in with its haunting and somewhat dystopian synth line that rides along the track s jagged percussion. the result is the kind of danceable groove that has become the calling card of the more exciting techno music to come out of the uk in recent years.

matt bridgewater aka callahan first released on 4 seasons back in 2015 with ‘armshouse’ ep, since then he released an impressive offering on dext, featuring a hodge remix, as well as playing shows around the uk. the four track ep, features heavy breakdowns, percussion fuelled rhythms, as well as the club friendly ‘state of mind’ collaboration with uk legend roska. straight club fuelled, dark room business.

its been a long hot summer for dext a string of quality releases and remixes from the likes of alden tyrell, bodyjack, the zenker brothers, lo shea and oli furness plus a label showcase at privilege in ibiza. only 4 releases in, the label has fast established itself as a standout player in the game.

the year 2016 cemented dext s position in the boxes of discernible djs around the globe, by putting out a string of material from the likes of hodge, bodyjack, mella dee, endian, lo shea and callahan. we kick off 2017 with a bang with a killer 12inch from the fast rising otik. hailing from bristol by way of london, he has steadily been building an artillery of heavy club hitters on labels including 17 steps, push & run, infinite machine, and durkle disco, plus remixes for the likes of dusky, rosie lowe and pixelord, it s clear to see his ascension is moving at a strong pace and we are proud to be able to drop this for you we won t say much about this ep other than it fuses everything we love here at dext: hard hitting funky drum programming, super heavy sub basses and shades of rave, house and techno. backed with two remixes one from talented newcomer erosion flow who has released on martyn s 3024 label in 2016 and another mix from uk artists who are synonymous with writing club bangers mak & pasteman.

brotherhood sound system records is back with its third 12inch offering and the first in a series of compilations entitled percussive parameters delivering percussion heavy sonics focused directly at the dance floor. the lead track of the ep, callahans kudzu, opens with a chopped, atmospheric vocal layered intelligently over rolling percussion and a hypnotic flute. a pounding 808 kick drum is teased underneath until the track switches into a relentless, chugging club tool. this ones destined to tear up dance floors for a long time

firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting us so far - 2016 has seen the dext label continuing to go from strength to strength, with our callahan and mella dee ep s backed with remixes from hodge and endian which have been been super well received. now for the third ep of the year from our resident comedian bodyjack. bodyjack has been an integral part of dext since he remixed dubspeeka on our 2nd release and headlined our label takeover of privilege in ibiza last summer. we are very excited about his return to the label with this 3-tracker (and our first full solo artist ep!), and we think you re going to dig this... the title track cobra effect is one of those tracks you aren t going forget in a hurry. intense and brooding, we are hard-pushed to categorise this, but layers of sinister bass coupled with dark, driving snares and eerie synth work culminate masterfully, making this the perfect dext track. hydra effect lifts the vibe with a straight up peak-time house jam with a sting in the tail. a raw-but-infectious bassline winds along under bodyjack s signature killer drum programming, before blasting off with something you aren t going to expect. rounding the ep off is slowine effect: a proper dancehall workout (reminiscent of bodyjack s earlier work) and a real cross-genre party starter. the most upbeat of the 3 tracks, this again takes all the elements of what we love about the music from the past and cleverly works them into something special for the rave. and that s not all for bodyjack on dext this year - he will be back with a one-off ltd record called -hot shot-, backed with a very special remixer...but more on that soon!

after kicking off 2016 with the massive don t need ep from callahan featuring that remix from man of-the-moment hodge, dext is back with another banger of an ep from fast rising uk producer mella dee. the man from doncaster, uk has been creating a name for himself on the scene of late with releases on redlight s lobster boy and shy fx s digital soundboy imprint, and his dext debut certainly doesn t disappoint. over the last year or so, he has been masterfully fusing 90 s jungle influences with driving house & techno percussion and his ep for us is, we think, his strongest work to date.

wonderful remastered reissue of nancy martins >cant believe<, a deep italo/proto house cut from back in 1982 recorded by canadian producer domenic sciullo. featuring an awesome phat analogue italo-style bassline, great sexy vocals and an irresistible chugging groove that gets the floor bouncing, it became an anthem in the underground clubs of chicago, championed by the likes of frankie knuckles and ron hardy. released here on the original neige records label which features the full length long version of this killer and also the highly useful instrumental version. essential

auch auf ihrem sechsten album >bubblegum<, das von john congleton (bill callahan, st vincent) produziert wurde, gelingt es clinic einmal mehr, den eigenen hochgelobten stil neu zu interpretieren: wo bisher treibende riffs und aufgedrehte vocals zu hören waren, werden jetzt traumlandschaften voller cembalos, hackbretter und fließender streicher aufgebaut. zeit, die titelgebende single zu veröffentlichen. >bubblegum< ist ein perfektes beispiel, wie clinic sich in poppigere gefilde vorwagen, dabei jedoch ihr etwas schelmisch-freches augenzwinkern beibehalten. inklusive klasse mark e remix!
